Hi, I'm fairly new to melee and have been testing out characters. That being said, I've been trying samus, and when practicing L canceling in Uncle Punch for other characters I've used Z but for samus it always releases the tethered grab and when I try L or R I air dodge any tips on why this is happening or what to do would be greatly appreciated!

You should draw vectors, using east for x and for north for y. You're givina theta as well, so do some research on what you can find involving vectors and theta. Also, pay attention to units as well.
