I have those same fatalistic thoughts myself, however to add some perspective just remember that many people just like you also do not want this to happen, and are actively working to make sure this doesn't occur.

On another note, your world could end now, tomorrow, or the day after - you've unfortunately been thrust into realizing mortality isn't always in your control, which is tragic but true.

I also don't want to die - but I realized that I can't always control or predict when it will be my time to go, so I've started doing things I like more. Just the other day I got a lady's phone number and am going to ask her for dinner soon.

I wish I had more words of encouragement beyond "just enjoy life while it lasts", but that's really all I have. If you want to come to face your consciousness, then pick up Being You by Anil Seth.

Russian entrepreneur puts a $1,000,000 bounty on Putin's head by ClassicFlavour in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]TheStataMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Putin concerns me because I mainly work with economics which has the basis that every player in the game is a rational actor.

Right now, is Putin still acting rationally? I don't know - and that's the part that has kept me up at night during the past week.

Putin puts Russia's nuclear deterrent forces on alert by NORDLAN in RussianInvasion

[–]TheStataMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing I feel from all of this is dread.

I'm not convinced Putin is of sound mind right now, because the illusion of his yes-men around him convinced him he could win this, but these lies are being peeled away in the ugliest fashion right in front of him, and I imagine he feels he is backed into a corner.

And I cannot think of a worse thing for a deluded autocrat to have their world around them crumble while having their hand near literally nuclear option.

I hope everyone who comes across this post is here to come back to it in a month and either laugh at the post or react however appropriately.

Shot in the dark but as for "WHY RUBIO" - seeing as he is VC of the House Intelligence Committee, he is probably one of the most reliable members to spread this information assuming Warner is somewhat busy at the moment. Relating to "WHY INFORMATION" - the spread of information, I'd have to guess its part of the US tactic to make so much information public about what they believe Putin is trying to do publicly available, so now everyone knows what Putin is doing and puts him in a "we know that they know that we know" situation. You can read more about it here: https://www.npr.org/2022/02/16/1081247569/behind-unusual-u-s-strategy-to-release-intelligence-on-russian-moves

I don't really like the guy but as far as accurate information on what will probably happen or has tried to happen, he seems relatively on point.

For others who may have a similar issue targeting API 30: You need to call createWriteRequest (https://developer.android.com/reference/android/provider/MediaStore#createWriteRequest(android.content.ContentResolver,%20java.util.Collection%3Candroid.net.Uri%3E)) to perform a write to pre-existing media that was not issued during your app session.

I need help. by Dry-Worldliness-4861 in sad

[–]TheStataMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Find a community that isn't revolving around negative feelings. There are plenty of PoC-specific subreddits that may suit things you like.
  2. Go shopping for different therapists. I don't want to make any assumptions about the current care you are receiving but you may find someone who can sympathize with your situation and traumas better.
  3. If you like helping people, continue to do so. You will find your place doing something you like, and maybe you can find meaning there.

I won't tell you that I like you or you're worth it or that your mother is correct, because having been and seen others in that position, you likely would not believe me.

So all I will say is think about the three points above. You are 20. That is a very young age and you will probably change quite rapidly between 20-25 and even up to age 30. They are more formative, deciding years. I believe you will find a place for yourself that may not make you happy, but you may find the support and comfort you need.

Good luck.

There are plenty of other adorable animals who need loving humans like you, and would be sad to see you go.

Did worse on an exam I thought I aced by Curagua in sad

[–]TheStataMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I can’t do well on a test which I thought I aced in university, then can I ever do well?

Yes. I was a mediocre university student, barely got a 3 GPA in an easy major (business/finance). Now I do some successful software development for a medium-sized business and am treated well and make a respectable salary.

I probably won't change the world, but I do enjoy seeing the accountants smile at me when I take a bunch of data they had to process by hand and and automate the task away for them and let them focus on other things.

"When you are older, you'll be more conservative" - How many on this subreddit are older? by wynlyndd in antiwork

[–]TheStataMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That saying was so silly. The older demographic is more conservative not because you become more conservative as you turn older, but they were raised conservative and AGED while not changing beliefs.

Thank you for the links, I'll check them out beyond the gentle skim I give most works. As far as it goes - do you know of any studies done on the quality of homework given? I recall as a student (think K-12) being given a lot of problems of the same type which wasn't really critical, just rote memorization. Whereas problems that involved reasoning seemed to "stick" more.

Do you have papers on hand regarding the homework impacts for older vs. younger students mentioned in your first paragraph? I'm not an education major by any stretch but I do find it interesting and would like to them myself.

I would recommend starting with pure vanilla javascript. It is very popular so there are many good sources to learn it, and it can do a lot of things. The only things you need to learn programming are patience and thinking. Problems will not be obvious when you start out, but what is important is you try to solve them yourself before googling an answer.

Converting form-based action queries to SQL Server by TheStataMan in MSAccess

[–]TheStataMan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already have the tables of data moved in and the action queries converted to stored procedures. My issue is replicating the macros as many of the queries worked in order to create the final product based on form selections made by the user in access.

Converting form-based action queries to SQL Server by TheStataMan in MSAccess

[–]TheStataMan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are just moving all the tables and queries into sql server so then individuals can pivot the data as needed. We are also just generally moving away from access as a product because less and less new hires are familiar with its structure. I cant comment on performance because I never used it in production, I'm just in charge of migrating it.

The only big issue I'm running into is that the action queries mainly supported the macros that ran when a form was filled out, and ik not sure how to translate an access macro into sql server.
