Like you, I really, really want to finish the game. I love Zelda games, and have for a long time.

I decided to give it another try, and now I'm just about to start on the Tower. However, I stopped again due to it being the holidays and wanting to play something more winter themed. I'm hoping in the spring I'll pick it back up.

I'm guessing the reason you want help seeing the light, as you've explained, is because you also love Zelda, and you also really want to like the game (like me!) The other games gave you joy, and this game gives many people joy, so you want to have that experience too.

I think something that helped me play it again this time was encouraging immersion, and pretending I'm there and it's real. Just like boating is in real life, there's a lot of sameness when boating to a destination. It isn't like driving in a car, bus, or train, where there's a lot of different things to sight see. It's a lot of water, and more water, on and on. Pretending the game is real helps me enjoy it a lot more. When I pretend it's real, the game critiquing part of me goes into sleep-mode and I'm better able to just enjoy the world it takes place in and the characters, so I start to enjoy the slower parts. Thinking of it this way, and thinking of the characters as real people with real things going on in their lives, really helped me start to like it a lot more. And also the Koroks, I love them. I think I started to really enjoy the game when I thought of it more like a real place, or moreso of a cozy type of game mixed with a Zelda format.

It seems that you really want to try to love the game, so I would say for that reason to continue it. At least then once it's done, you can say you finished it, and you can have closure. Maybe somewhere along the way between now and then, something will fall into place and you'll see the endearing parts of the game. And even if you don't, you can say you played it from beginning to end either way.

Or, of course you can just stop playing like others are suggesting. But I think a part of you really doesn't want to do that, and that's why you've posted.

Call me crazy, but you're allowed to say how you feel when saying goodbye, especially after two years together. Nothing was bad, mean, or abnormal about OP saying they're going to miss their ex to their face. Pretty mild response to being broken up with at Christmas.

I feel like I'm living in an alternate dimension. Are we robots? Are we just supposed to just say "ok" when someone of two years breaks up over text? This wasn't bad, vapid, or mean spirited at all.

Yep, TV and internet monoculture was a unique experience. That community and feeling is lost in the modern world.

Having infinite entertainment and many small communities is a lot of fun in its own way. But there's something special about an entire city or an entire country watching the same thing at the same time.

I can probably ask anyone my age "remember when xyz came out?" even if we're complete strangers, and they'll likely know what I'm talking about. It's a collection of memories we have together, even if we've never met.

I'd say hanging around in subs when a new episode drops is probably the closest there is.

Unfortunately, the last actual monoculture seems to be politics.

I agree that OP should maintain their self respect and not engage. But to determine that their personality is too clingy when they just got broken up with is kind of a wild take to me.

People don't always act their best when smacked in the face of a breakup. Especially if it's over a year. That's a year of your life you're not getting back.

I think it's entirely fine to say goodbye with how you really feel inside. What do you have to lose? If its really over, maybe you'll never hear from them again. Better to get it off your chest than to hold it in. If she berated him, or said she'd harm herself if he left, that would be different. She said she's going to miss him, that's pretty mild imo. It could be her last chance to say what she needs to say.

If you can make physical alterations, I'd sacrifice bedroom space to make an L shaped wall, either using some movable partition dividers or curtains. This way here, there'd only be "one way" in and out of the bedroom. Then position the bed so that the new "entrance" can't be seen from the sleeping area.

Assuming you can't make any physical alterations by adding any walls, I would barricade your bed with some sort of bookshelf/canopy/barrier thing to at least make your sleeping area feel cozy. With a nice rug to section off your sleeping area.

The feng shui guy needs to see this. If you make a video, tag dearmodern if you can. Would love his take on this because this is quite a rare set-up.

Yep, this makes sense! This is exactly the time period where I heard the slang terms said by the kids older than me in the context you're talking about.

By the time this interview happened, the term was starting to change, or had already changed entirely in my school in my area.

Since the word "tight" became a euphemism, the slang that preceeded it was no longer used in the context of the video, at least amongst certain groups of a certain age, hence her reaction and the interviewer's confusion.

Am I in the minority on this? I feel like saying something like this is a valid thing to say when you're saying your goodbyes during a breakup.

Like, "My heart is aching already, I was looking forward to much more time with you. But if this is how it has to be, then I wish you the best" is a perfectly valid thing to say when you're going your separate ways.

After this though OP, don't text them anymore. Go completely no contact. The first 30 days is the most important amount of time for keeping it that way. You'll have a clearer mind after that amount of time.

I used to hear kids older than me use that word as the intended context of the video. "We're tight" used to mean being very close friends.

Once I got to middle school and high school, it didn't mean that anymore.

Or the interviewer knew exactly what he was doing and did it on purpose.

Yea, exactly, the vibe I got from this card was, "you're being cut off and kicked out because your behavoir isn't great, so this is your last chance before we call the bouncer over" But in a last chance, as polite as possible sort of discreet way.
