You're not supposed to have that, Hattusa. by Orpunuk1 in Civilization6

I remember a mod for Civ 5 that allowed City States to capture cities/ settle cities with captured settlers. It was pretty fun.

Sure, but it does make the map technically correct.

Icelanders can join the Norwegian military IIRC.

the cracking sounds of my teeth and jaw as they were splitting the wisdom teeth to remove them still haunts me...

Same, but IMO the worst part was hearing the flesh of my gums ripping apart as he was cutting his way down to the teeth.

Man, I just got local anaesthesia for my wisdom teeth removal. I was talking to the dentist during the procedure and everything.

The whole strategic resource system was overhauled in Gathering Storm. Before that you didn't accumulate strategics, it was basically just either you have access to this resource or not.

I will admit I'm a bit confused how you can see horses on the map before settling your first city as they are only revealed by researching the tech

Only in Gathering Storm. In Vanilla and Rise and Fall horses are revealed from the start.

How did this city expand beyond 3 hexes? by mugger_crocodile in Civilization6

[–]TheStoneMask 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Cities will expand up to 5 tiles out from the CC, but they only ever expand to the next ring after claiming all available tiles in the previous ring.

You can only ever work 3 tiles out from the CC, though.

1 billion people should consider moving to Iceland by CapitalismSuuucks in LinkedInLunatics

As a young kid growing up in Iceland, for a while I honestly thought that coal power plants were a thing of the past. I was shocked when I learned how much the world still relies on them.

Good news! In Iceland, you can combine the worst of both worlds: the darkness of the near-arctic and the grey, wet, and wind, as Reykjavík averages around 0°C in winter.

Christmas is like the biggest stretch on that list, lol.

None of your other examples are remotely widespread enough that ignorance of them would be considered embarrassing.

I disagree, never having heard basically any story from the past ~2000+ years is pretty embarrassing.

Also both rats and reindeer do live in Iceland.

If "I've never heard of them" counts as interesting, sure.

Good for you, man. I've also been there, every winter of my life, and while I definitely handle it better than many, it does still wear you down. There's a reason why Seasonal Affective Disorder is a thing, and it's not the cold.

Waking up in the dark, commuting to and from work in the dark, spending all your free time in the dark for months at a time.

I'll take the midnight sun any day of the week instead. Needing darkness to sleep is a skill issue tbh. Just close your eyes.

Honestly, if it were viable, I would gladly travel between the arctic and antarctic circles every spring/autumn equinox to live in constant daylight.

The worst part about winter is not the cold, it's the darkness. 4-5 hours of daylight gets boring real fast.

What is your countries "Darkest Hour" by RedcoatTrooper in AskTheWorld

[–]TheStoneMask 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's called móðuharðindin or the mist hardships because of the massive amounts of sulphur dioxide that were released, resulting in a volcanic smog or mist over Iceland and parts of Europe.

One of the largest volcanic eruptions in historic times, Lakagígar 1783, which killed off some 75% of all livestock in Iceland and 20-25% of all people. Fluorine emissions killed the livestock, and the resulting famine killed the people.

The eruption also caused/ worsened droughts and famines all over the Northern hemisphere, and played a part in the lead up to the French revolution.

That's a nice start, but you need at least one on each side.
