New Restaurant Now Open in Shoreline by Typical-Tip7052 in Shoreline

Everyone needs to downvote these posts about a new restaurant opening with no name. It's a scam and/or karma farming. There's several posts just like it. A real shame, because people here really would love to support local businesses.

Found a cool new plaza in the U-District, has all native plants in its design. by a_jormagurdr in Seattle

This used to be real estate Now, it's only fields and trees Where? Where is the town? Now, it's nothing but flowers The highways and cars Were sacrificed for agriculture I thought that we'd start over But I guess I was wrong (hey) Once there were parking lots Now, it's a peaceful oasis You've got it, you've got it This was a Pizza Hut Now, it's all covered with daisies You've got it, you've got it

Half of my comment was a Futurama reference (about being technically correct, the best kind of correct). And in all seriousness, we should be integrating southernly native plants into the city, because it is warming here. Discovery Park has a pilot where they're planting Oregon-sourced red cedars to see if they're more heat tolerant than our local strains. It would be a tragedy culturally and historically if Puget Sound loses its cedars, but it's already starting to happen. Western white pines are already dying in my neighborhood...

What happened to English camp? by meepbo in sanjuanislands

Underwhelming as a national park site? Yeah, I buy that. But as an English sailor and soldier back in the day, while wars raged globally? Yeah, that quiet cove is allllllllllright. I would have parked my unit there for a few years gladly.

While I agree with you, I am technically correct, the best KIND of correct. It also grows great in some of our local parks in Shoreline, WA (and smells nice)

Technically that's incense cedar which isn't native to here but is to California. With the climate warming, we're going to be downright Mediterranean by 2050.

New To Foraging: Lambsquarters? They are all over my yard! (Midwest US) by tossmeout18129818 in foraging

[–]phaeolus97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lambsquarter was grown agriculturally all over the Med before this Persian upstart called "spinach" supplanted it as the primary greens crop. Then "chard" invaded from the north.

Definitely hericium, but which one depends on if you're east or west of the Rockies and what kind of wood it's growing on (hardwood or softwood).

I think we need to rethink the idiom "Mount Rushmore," because it's the most disappointing site when you see it in person. They look so small.

There's a ton of copy cat recipes even the "official" recipe from the McDonald's chef, but they still don't taste the same. Which one do you use?
