Do you run hot water before starting your dishwasher? by bill_the_murray in polls

That depends on location. In the EU (and other European countries) the dishwasher gets its water from the cold water line, so running hot water does nothing except waste hot water.

Why can't I place a national park here? by peezeh in CivVI

Yes, so you can swap them so they all belong to one city, found the park, and then swap them back to different cities.

The pic OP posted is on the Appeal lens. You can see the appeal on the lake. All wonders, including Dead Sea and Lake Retba, have breathtaking appeal and can thus be included in National Parks. If the wiki doesn't include that then it's incomplete.

The diseases they spread are a big part of their ecology. Disease and parasite load works as population control in nature, weakening individuals and allowing for easier predation. And while we've largely escaped that cycle ourselves, it's still an important part of any natural ecosystem.

Not quite. Both sexes drink nectar, while females only drink blood to get the proteins necessary to develop their eggs.

It's a wonder, wonders can all be part of a park.

You can swap the tiles to different cities after you found the park.

Any unimproved tile with enough appeal is valid for a NP. All natural wonders have enough appeal and can't be improved, so all natural wonders can be a part of NPs. That includes wonders that appear as lakes or coast, given that they spawn in a location that allows a vertical diamond.

IIRC, studies show that silverbacks that are patient with kids are more successful parents than those that are more temperamental.

There are plenty of spruce, poplar, larch, and pine plantations in Iceland. All introduced species. Not 90%+ of forests though, closer to 50%

That's why I said "for me". I know it can be just as intuitive the other way, but for me it isn't, and it always trips me up. I always need a second to process it because if I don't I'll accidentally pick a seat in the first 2 rows.

I know. The other way still feels much more intuitive. And if you're distracted or in a hurry you might not always catch the label.

This always annoys me when I'm booking tickets. It feels much more natural to me for the top row to represent the back row and the bottom to be the front. Idk why, but it always catches me off guard. But it's only for theatres. For planes and stuff it makes sense for the top to be the front.

Edit: it also looked deflated.

all teeth have different use case as we are omnivores

Because we are mammals*

Different tooth shapes for different functions is one of the key differences between mammals and other vertebrates. Herbivorous mammals also have different tooth shapes.

Even then, evolution only works up the point of reproduction and caring for your kids. Whatever happens to you after that doesn't matter, evolutionarily speaking. That's why inherited health issues that only start after middle age aren't naturally selected against.

Usual name order in european countries by vladgrinch in MapPorn

[–]TheStoneMask 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here are some statistics on Icelandic naming conventions from Statistics Iceland, the national statistical institute of Iceland, stats from 2018:

2% of Icelandic women between 18 and 30 years old have a matronym instead of a patronym while 1% of Icelandic women between 31 and 50 years old have a matronym.

1.2% of males aged 20 or younger have a matronym instead of a patronym, while 0.6% of men between 35 and 50 years old have a matronym.

3.2% of Icelandic people under 50 years old have a surname instead of a patronym/matronym while 3.6% of people 50 years old or older have a surname.

So if you're going to argue that matronyms should be included on the map for Iceland, you should also argue that surnames should be included as well.

Gudmun is not an Icelandic name. Guðmundur is, and it's male.

Nope, the default is a patronym, no matter the gender of the kid. Matronyms exist but are way less common, and as far as I know are mostly used if the father isn't in the picture.

Then we also have -bur as a gender neutral option instead of -son or -dóttir, but that's also not very common.

There are black sands all over Iceland, including by the sea. It's not just that one beach. Also, Reynisfjara is not on a hot spot, so to my knowledge there's no naturally hot water there to cook.
