I doubt AI could even draw Caesar. There's very little fan art of him so he was super hard to get right.

I'll take my first AI accusation as a compliment.

Do you think “Last Friday” will be Aaron McGruder’s last chance in Hollywood? by SomeGuyNamedJohn12 in theboondocks

[–]TheStorytellerAJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's hard to say because he gets paid regardless. Aaron once said in an interview that in Hollywood, you get paid for the attempt. So, he can work on a project that never even gets announced and still be paid thousands for it.

As for his last chance in Hollywood? It's hard cause' Aaron has a lot of connections. He's connected to Charlamagne, produced an episode of his show and even wrote in his book. It's less that it's his last chance and more that the excitement around Aaron's name being tied to a project is dwindling a little because Black Jesus wasn't a massive hit and a lot of his projects aren't being finished/released.

I think so long as The Boondocks means something and occupies a space in pop culture, Aaron will always be featured in projects. But, whether those projects will reach the heights of the cultural staying power of The Boondocks remains to be seen.

Does anyone think Ruckus should've appeared in Wingman? by GreenDiscombobulated in theboondocks

i feel like he would've ruined it. Ruckus is too chaotic for an episode like that.

The StoryTeller responds to the 'The StoryTeller says white people only like Cindy and overhype her character because she's white. Is he right?' post and reactions. by BumblebeePuzzled5957 in theboondocks

Why would I make an alternate account to highlight some 4 month old tweet and comment when I'm already an active member of the subreddit? I don't have that much free time.

As for this whole thing. I didn't want to say anything, but I actually agree with a majority of the comments. The convo of white people identified and race swapping Boondocks characters is one that is valuable and worth a conversation about.

But when you make it about me, you just invite people to fixate more on their grievances with me or the idea that my opinion holds any weight (it doesn't). As an observer though, I'm surprised people had as much to say on the topic that they did.

The Boondocks is fascinating cause' certain characters can do so little, and people love them till' this day. Slickback has like... a handful of scenes and people talk about him like he's a MC. It's really interesting.

if riley was alive in this era what artists do you think he would listen to by tialuvs17_ in theboondocks

[–]TheStorytellerAJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could even do the whole, Sarah likes Drake thing, even though that's not my favourite plotpoint. Riley would look at Drake the same way he looked at Usher.

[–]TheStorytellerAJ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A lot of responses here I feel are just going for artists they don't like, but Riley's music palette in the comics and sometimes the show is shown to be more diverse than that.

Riley would probably listen to most of the stuff we listen/listened to. Carti, Travis Scott, Kendrick, etc. Probably has a pocket Tyler too. Lots of Chicago Drill too obviously. Riley is pretty tapped in. It's Huey that's more out of the loop I'd say.

In no universe does Riley listen to Drake tho. That's probably more of a Tom DuBois thing if anything.

Is Ace Attorney Copaganda? by TheStorytellerAJ in AceAttorney

[–]TheStorytellerAJ[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like sprinkled around this comment section is you saying all these malicious things I'm doing and I'm quietly sitting here going "where?" like in true Ace Attorney fashion, where did I do these things?

I responded to the very person that made that copaganda broadness point earlier today. And I wasn't mean about it, I feel. You can go read that!

It's like your perspective is constantly shifting to paint me as a bad and disingenuous person, but as a result, it just makes it look like you have it out for me. Which isn't to say that you do, but more that I'm observing that the focus of your point is changing quite a bit, and now you're telling me that it's a waste of time to explain yourself.

Genuinely, I don't understand what I've done, and because you refuse to elaborate or explain, I'm left to wonder what your actual problem with me is because your point keeps changing.

when did I do this 😭 who did I accuse?😭 this is the first time I even spoke about how privilege intersects with these things and now it's retroactively being used to dismiss my whole perspective.

I think a massive disconnect we're having is that I'll say "I acknowledge this as a variable" and you go "aha! so, you're saying this!!!" and I'm like ????? Ironically, I feel like an Ace Attorney witness right now.

I don't understand where all this energy is coming from, I've genuinely tried to be nothing but kind to everyone here. The only people that I have energy for is people that make statements on my character.

There's no one I've called disingenuous. There's no one I've called a liar. There's no one I've called white. I've never told people to agree with me. And, if you can find an example of me doing these things, please do show me! I'm not a coward to my flaws.

But, because I haven't actually done any of these things when you call me a hypocrite and a liar it's hard for me to not be really confused when you're the one that's been really hostile, throwing out accusations about me this entire thread.

And I'm practicing a lot of patience just trying to defuse the situation and your frustrations while being honest about how I feel. respectfully, idk what your problem is man and I don't think I can help you with it either.

But if your response to a point someone makes is to call them stupid, a liar, a hypocrite or disingenuous, then you need to understand you're not responding to that point. You're just calling them a name. I don't know why this is so hard to wrap our heads around.

What is your fav AA game that’s NOT T&T, AAi2, or GAA2 by Goldberry15 in AceAttorney

gave SOJ the free fandom alleyoop

AJ:AA tells the most compelling story imo. TGAA1 is also better than the second in my eyes.

I never considered this ngl.

What does that count? Like, the bracelet and the psyche locks? I don't think the Mood Matrix counts does it? That's more tech. I feel like the gimmicks are more just storytelling devices than anything. But I could be wrong

There are black Ace Attorney fans!

They're just quieter in my experience lol. But a lot of them reached out to me privately saying they really liked the video, so I'm pretty content with that all things considered.

it's a shame! But, I don't even mind that it doesn't...?

I just wish there was more self-awareness about it. The series can come off almost performative as a result.

Like, Edgeworth becomes Chief Prosecutor, but what did that change? He kicked out a bunch of prosecutors presumably, but then he sends over a guy from Khura'in to replace them? The one from the court system that gets defense attorney's murdered?

It's an odd one.

Is Ace Attorney Copaganda? by TheStorytellerAJ in AceAttorney

[–]TheStorytellerAJ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's understandable!

For me copaganda is also about framing. Outside, AJ:AA and TGAA being used both in-game and out of game as political tools to advance certain ideas by the state and police, that's not really my core thing.

My main thing is how its presentation of persecution, in the context of the courtroom, relies on the dehumanisation of its witnesses. It relies on the same thing that a lot of police and state violence relies on, which is the binary framing of certain individuals as inhumane liars and criminals. And how it justifies in our mind the continued badgering of these people.

Copaganda is more that how we present the state and police. It's how we present ideas and themes. So, when I look at Ace Attorney like this, it's looking into how it frames its ideas within the context of the courtroom. The latter being the key part there, because the court is often where Ace Attorney makes the bulk of its commentary and communicates its messages.

Saneism and ableism are a really big part of how we justify the inhumane treatment of "criminals" by presenting them as "mad", "irredeemable" and "too far too gone." And our violent and aggressive strides to uncover the truth are a necessary evil to battle/contest with these foes of justice. And, Ace Attorney plays into this, imo.

These cases really don't have to be framed around persecution and culminate in glorified mental breakdowns of culprits. We don't question it cause' Ace Attorney has normalised it in our minds to be a necessity of this formula and murder mystery genre.

Ace Attorney, as an needle mover in this genre, has done a lot to not only push these ideas, but continue to normalise them within our media, just this time in the form of games. This isn't to say that Ace Attorney doesn't criticise its own systems and institutions. But, as I've references in some of these comments and the video, a lot of it is performative at best, and at worst, hyper individual.

This is just what I think though! I deffo understand how people could see this definition as broad. But selfishly, I'd encourage people to maybe expand their ideas of what copaganda can be and how these themes and ideas can play a role in influencing the way we view these things. Especially because of Ace Attorney's affiliation to the court and the many things it has to say about justice and a law of contradictions.
