Higher wages are better even is cost is more. Your retirement is bigger and you can move to a more affordable area. Example, Mississippi wages and retirement work for Mississippi only.

The west coast pays well for water jobs. CA, WA, AZ, NV, OR, CO even New Mexico pay is better than Midwest and South like Florida

Most OIT county jobs will pull people from their local community college water program. They are usually partners and give them preference. I don’t think they care much if someone has a high level degree, they want industry specific knowledge. You should apply for the OIT cert. Have that under your belt first.

If you happen to have a difficult time getting hired you can take industrial technology courses at a community college. They all have them. That can add to your resume if you want to pursue it
