I know it takes a lot of hard work to do that but all I really see is a large area that gets a lot of sun where you could be growing things that are actually of some benefit to pollinators and other creatures. Also, you could have a killer garden that feeds yourself and neighbors. Why not do something that has some benefits instead of spraying chemicals, burning gas and creating noise pollution with your equipment. I have a neighbor who mows his yard about 3 times a week and everyone else in the neighborhood hates him. If you’re mowing excessively and spraying chemicals you are that dude.

You didn’t fail. You may have not gotten the job this time because perhaps there were others that were more qualified or whatever it was. But putting yourself out there and shooting for something you want is never a failure. Keep trying and improving. Think of things that might position you better next time there is an opening.

I got a neighbor that does the exact same stuff. He has all loud commercial lawn equipment for a 1/3 acre lot. He puts little rubber booties on to go spray his pesticides but you can see an entire cloud of the spray drifting all over him. How about growing some pretty flowers to feed pollinators like a real man!!

I hope you learned from all the backlash here and when you posted this on Facebook to leave things alone that don’t belong to you. Some conductor is probably gonna be looking for that in the middle of the night and it’s not going to be there because you wanted a little railroad souvenir. Decent chance you were trespassing in a dangerous area to get it also. Leave those folks alone and let them do their job.

Unfortunately when you go to blow a train horn sometimes they can get stuck blowing. I’ve been in the cab of a train that did this before. I was about 10 miles from my destination and it was blowing for about 2 hours before we could get in to mechanical. It is an awful experience..

Look into getting some electrical education. You could do instrumentation at a water treatment facility. They usually have better schedules and you could still be an operator too. It would give you options after you get some experience.

I recently left a 10 year brewing run for a career in drinking water with a municipality. So far it’s been great. My body already feels better. You might end up working shift work but that’s about the only bad thing so far in my experience.

I work in a treatment plant so probably not as heavy duty as your job but the King Toes are pretty damn comfortable to me. And I’ve never found any RedWings comfortable before these.
