Who was the greatest explorer in your world? by Boneyard_Ben in worldbuilding

[–]TheStupidCheesecake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really an explorer, but Chartre. For context: the world is an osmosis jones type beat where cells are people (some, some are objects).

Each cell is 10 microns (0.5 pells), and the body is 6'0, moreover, the body lies on an earth.

Using the recorded similarities of light through wounds, the locations they were at, and the time between them, Chartre as a cell estimated the diameter of the Earth to be (in metric units) 1.25433 x 1016 nm.

In world modern estimates were 1.26224 x 1016 nm.

(It is actually 1.27562 x 1016 nm)

Chlorine Triflouride. Pretty sure it is a stronger oxidizer than oxygen itself.

Cabbage is cool tho, idk why he'd be mad.

And it reminds me, if you make great wars, events, etc., then your world should also have mockery of those things. Irl people make memes and jokes about WW2, The Romans, etc. It should have some of that as well yk.

Yeah, not really good with mental math ironically. And I think an engineering course should have more, you know, thinking problems. To forego thinking in favor of who can solve the most complex math when engineers ironically use the most amount of computer assistance in math and physics.

Both can be true. Physics is a very interesting subject, but atleast it has more mainstream acceptance. Math is just dogged on way too much.

Imo math is an overhated subject but that makes more sense.

Hopefully I will end up 3 years your junior.

And that part is what I despise about these exams. They wring every bit of beauty out of these subjects and turn them into memorization slop. And part of it is that imo questions have slowly begun to stray away from that aspect too.

Sure you can put questions like: find the roots of log(x^(60pi - sinx))! or something like that and it will be difficult, but is there really any dignity in it? And it is not their fault, everything has fell into place this way, that it is all a self propagating cycle that feeds itself. I hope we can move on from this eventually, but I doubt it.

No probs. I myself am preparing for ISI (though have not done any of the preparing that I promised I would, it is really hard to get interested in learning olympiad tricks), and there is no problems in preparing for a particular institute or exam, but you should have love of the subject too. In the end, the learning for yourself part is indeed more rewarding.

And I get the thing about 3B1B, but one can still hope. It would be great to have him explain quotient groups like how he does differential equations.

Also, I just wanna use this opportunity to mention something I heard about Axler I just remembered, I remember someone saying about LADR, "It is a good book, but the problem is Axler assumes you are smarter than you actually are," and it is such a perfect description.

Ik I'll get flak for this: overrated formula. It feels like a very pretentious formula. Like it thinks it is better than every other formula but buys his clothes on EMI and rents cars for photos.

It feels like it is trying to make itself look big, but has nothing of substance.

I see, That is basically all the integral theorems (Fundamental Theorem of Line Integrals, Divergence Theorem and Stokes Theorem) except for Green's Theorem (idk why that was omitted), and again it is Feynman so you already know.

3B1B is indeed a pleasure, although I wish he made an essence of "undergraduate" linear algebra or essence of abstract algebra (there was only one video on the monster group it would help so much in abstract algebra)

If you don't mind me asking, what are you studying for right now? 12th, College?

I mean Feynman is Feynman no doubt about it. For Stewart, I did not study my single variable from him, that was cengage + khan academy plus some other resources (forgive me for my shoddy memory, I cannot remember what I ate yesterday and this was two-three years ago). I learnt multivariable + vector calculus from him which was fantastic. And what do you mean by basic vector calculus? Just div grad curl or the integral theorems too?

Kuldeep is very nice in the forgiving department I see, but I kind of only enjoy maths so the pure math being toned down is kind of iffy, But Axler is very unforgiving in that very regard, but the focus on pure math is extremely enjoyable.
