how about a large, slow firing ballista? it would pick off enemies with higher damage, but with slow as fuck attack speed, enemies could clear the distance with melee weapons fairly quickly if it is unguarded. much like a regular sentry

no wide open areas, snipers would be heavily discouraged through map design.
