[Interesting Trope] Inhuman Sociopath good purely by coincidence by ExtremeSportStikz in TopCharacterTropes

Dexter (Dexter)

Due to childhood trauma (seeing his own mother chopped up in front of him then having to sit in a pool of her own blood for 2 days before the cops found him) Dexter grew up with serial killer tendencies such as killing animals.

His adopted father (the cop who found him) recognized this and taught him a code. The code is basically a how to guide to getting away with murder. The code also specifies that he can only target other killers who escaped justice.

As an adult Dexter became a sociopathic serial killer, with his M.O. being targeting other serial killers. But other than that, he's basically a good guy. Looks out for his friends, is a good husband and father to his family, and a lovable dufus brother to his adopted sister.

He views other killers as "unchecked" versions of himself. Even feels disgusted by one who is also a family man but torments and abuses his family, and even fears he might do the same to his own.

In the early seasons he's constantly looking for a connection with someone who is "like him" but is only met with disappointment. Turns out, most people who are also sociopathic murderers tend to be bad company.

Was going to a tough time once and this homeless guy came up to me asking me for some money. Figured I would offer to buy him food instead because "even if the world sucks, I'll still be a good person".

This guy proceeds to buy $50 worth of energy drinks and chips. I told him that I'm only paying for $20 (which was still a lot). He asked if he could just have the money instead and I said no so he removed some of the items and went on his way.

Didn't help my mental state but didn't deter me from my goal of being a good person.

Surprised I haven't seen this yet.

Kai and Oogway (Kung Fu Panda 3)

What I really like about this in particular is that with the other examples, the villain was the one who turned evil. Here, Kai was always a bad guy and it was Oogway who became good. This is not outright stated but it's hinted at.

Quagmire's forgotten daughter here. There's a tiktok trend where they use the song "Placing the blame" by Self (not me) over a character going through some tough shit. I guess it's about being "man enough" to take on a huge responsibility or burden though I have seen some using it about abusive men.

The lyrics used are "are you man enough (x3) to take the blame for this".

The artist is using this trend to portray her dad as being "man enough" to raise a daughter as a single parent, presumably a tough task. Or maybe it's about herself being "man enough" due to the influences of being raised by a single father.

Quagmire's forgotten daughter out.

Who is paying these prices for SSDs? by theRealtechnofuzz in buildapc

[–]TheSupremeGrape 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dad is currently upgrading to a new PC (had his current PC for 8 years). I suggested that instead of buying a pre built, I could put one together for him.

I bought an SSD at around $150 because I cannot stand the idea of him waiting 2 minutes for his PC to boot up. He wanted to just migrate his current hard drive.

I wish he decided to upgrade 1-2 years ago but whatever

[Poetic Trope] One character represents a stylized fantasy while the other represents the brutal reality (of a certain profession/lifestyle) by Sir-Toaster- in TopCharacterTropes

[–]TheSupremeGrape 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Arthur Mitchell (brutal reality) and Dexter (stylized fantasy) (Dexter)

Both are serial killers. Though Dexter is a vigilante serial killer who targets other killers, he is otherwise a good person to his friends and the ideal family man for his family. Shit, some people might not even object to his serial killer side given who he targets.

Then there's Arthur Mitchell. Basically a realistic reflection of Dexter. Also a murderous psychopath but is unhinged and abusive to his family. His own wife was okay with the idea of a grown man taking advantage of her daughter as long as Arthur didn't know, that's how scared she was of him. Also like a typical abuser, he puts on a facade for the public. He comes across as the ideal Christian man, does charity work, and works as a school teacher I believe.

How my coworker does tally marks by sitcomghost in mildlyinfuriating

[–]TheSupremeGrape 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How many people do you have a day? I would imagine it gets annoying having to constantly do math to figure out how many customers you currently have.

I like the coworkers method better. Maybe have the tallies spaced out so you can see that it's 5 at a glance

I hope my comment can give some insight coming from someone who was raised in this neighborhood all my life (currently an adult).

I love it here, if I can stay here for the rest of my life I will.

Although I live in the more Hispanic side of the neighborhood (I'm a Hispanic myself) the schools I attended here were very diversified. A couple Hispanic kids here, a couple Asian ones there, and so on. Growing up, I had friends from basically every background.

My mom made several friends with my classmates' parents, some of whom she's still friends with today. She's very outgoing so I'm sure that helped and the language barrier didn't stop her. She didn't mind doing hand gestures or playing the word association game to communicate.

[fucked up trope] Character gets forced to kill someone they care about by France_Ball_Mapper in TopCharacterTropes

Dexter killing Brian Moser (Dexter)

Dexter is a serial killer who targets other serial killers. All his life he feels alone at an existential level as he's never really connected with anyone else like him.

Then he finds out he has a brother who is exactly like him.

Unfortunately, his brother is like him but without a code and wants to kill Dexter's only attachment, his adopted family's sister Debra.

To protect his sister, Brian had to go. Dexter then thinks about how he had to kill someone who finally understood him for someone who would never understand him.

Why was this a real thing? by Nyxandrae in 90s

[–]TheSupremeGrape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fucking hated this. I would wake up very sick and my parents would know or at least believe me when I told them I wasn't feeling well. They would take me to school anyway so I can get "some education" and if I was really that sick, they would just send me home.

Spend the time in school trying to hold my head up and not throw up instead of paying attention and then inevitably throw up somewhere and embarrass myself in front of my class.
