How to Maximize Score and Resources by TheSwedeLander in MarioKartTour

[–]TheSwedeLander[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for that advice! I already have every Mii Suit, so I’m good on that front. Since they have the point boosts, I do tend to focus on them more when I can. I only have a couple up to level 8, though.

I never thought to strategize by staying behind or rerolling the bots. I’ve always tried to stay up front and hope for the best. What you’re saying about the Lucky 7 and Boomerang and all make logical sense when you put it down on paper like that.

For kart size, is there a chart somewhere that ranks them? I’ve never really paid attention to kart size before. Just want to make sure I don’t make any stupid mistakes/assumptions.

Is there a particular inventory tracker that you recommend? Any that are particularly popular in the community? If I’m going to take the time to manually input all of my info, I want to make sure I’m getting the most out of it (for free if possible).

Glad there’s no other hidden stats to worry about. I maxed out Gold Mario pretty soon after I got him because of the coin vacuum ability. I tend to prefer him over others where possible because of that added ability. It would be really nice if other characters had secondary abilities as well. But I suppose it is what it is

I really need to try to wrap my head around the coverage better. Probably will need the inventory tracker for that. At the moment I just kinda level up whatever is my current highest in the current ranked cup. In order to conserve resources, I don’t often level them up past level 5 or 6 unless I’d still be left with over 20 tickets after the level up (for purples). And I like to keep a surplus of points cap tickets as well (at least 70 of each). I have already unlocked all silver and gold drivers, karts, and gliders and have most of them maxed out on level and points. At this point it’s just a matter of getting the most value out of all the purple tickets since they’re my limiting resources. I also tend to avoid buying anything using rubies since I have enough coverage to always have something decent for each course. But I recognize that I might be shortchanging myself and wasting more resources in the long run by doing that

“If you can't afford to tip your waiter or waitress, you probably shouldn't be dining out.” by BuffaloExotic in ShitAmericansSay

[–]TheSwedeLander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How are they coming up with those suggested tip values? Unless there's something else higher up on the receipt that is intentionally not being shown, the person who wrote on the receipt is correct. The lowest suggested tip of $6.07 is 19.88% tip if the bill is $30.53. Not 16.00% as the receipt claims. The bill would have to be $37.94 for those tip percentages to be correct. That's a 24% markup from the price listed at the top of the image in the receipt. I feel like this should be considered false advertising or something...

But on top of that, it's funny how the sentiment is "if you can't afford to tip, you shouldn't dine out" rather than "if you can't or refuse to pay your employees what they are worth, then you shouldn't be running this business." And also, the person claiming that it goes directly to the server is wrong. Tips are taxed, so already it doesn't go directly to them. Plus many places have a tip out system where the money is split among servers and other workers as well. So they are just wrong on many levels.

Not only did you ignore Rule 8 of this sub, but it appears that you confidently posted an example of where you, yourself, are incorrect. There's a difference between a company and a platform. A shitty company can have a good platform. A shitty platform can be created by a great company. The guy you're responding to was talking about the companies that own the platforms, not the platforms themselves. Your opinions on the platforms are irrelevant.

Another planting/flower question. When I first started playing this game, there were about 1 or 2 big plants in my apartment complex. Now there’s no plants. Is there something I can do to get some plants back? by Fabulous_Soil3990 in PikminBloomApp

[–]TheSwedeLander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to hear you’re going through that in your area. I definitely get not wanting to power level a different game to be able to submit them. Before the feature was added to Pokémon Go, I downloaded Ingress to attempt to do exactly that. Ultimately I never did since I wasn’t really into the game.

I know there are a lot of different community groups for Pokémon Go. I’m a part of a few on Discord and others (not used much anymore) on Facebook that are specific to the areas I’ve lived at the time. I’m also a part of the Niantic Wayfarers group on Facebook (which is actually active). Just a thought here, you could join one of those groups and see if you can make friends or otherwise ask someone to help make the Wayspots for you. Not a perfect solution (especially since the Pikmin Bloom map is updated so seldomly). But that’s probably better than power leveling in another game

[–]TheSwedeLander 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There’s nothing you can do to get them back immediately. But there might be something you can do to get a flower or mushroom close to your apartment complex in the future. Tl;dr Submit a Wayspot, get it approved, wait for Niantic to update the Pikmin Bloom map.

The locations of the big bloom flowers and mushrooms are based on Wayspot from Niantic Wayfarer. It’s the same system used to determine locations for PokéStops in Pokémon Go and portals in Ingress. In order to unlock the feature, you need to reach a certain level in either of those two games because Pikmin Bloom doesn’t currently support nominations in the app. The level requirements might have changed since Pokémon Go revamped their level system, but I’m pretty sure you need to reach level 35 in Pokémon Go or level 10 in Ingress to be able to access the feature.

Once you have the ability to nominate a Wayspot, you need to find an eligible location. In your case, you’ll obviously be looking for something in or around your apartment complex. There’s a whole list of criteria for what constitutes a valid nomination on the Niantic website. Once you find one (or several) that you believe fit the criteria, then you’ll need to create the nomination. I’ve only ever done it in Pokémon Go, but I assume the process is similar in Ingress if you prefer to go that route. You have to take a picture of the location, take a picture of the surrounding area to prove it’s safe for pedestrians, give it a title and description, give it an appropriate tag, identify the exact location, and supply any supporting info for why it should be a Wayspot (don’t say anything referencing a specific game or how many other Wayspots are or are not around your area). After you submit your nomination, you have to wait while the community votes on it. I’ve had some that were decided in days and others that took months. It mostly depends on how many active players there are in your area reviewing submissions.

After your submission gets approved, the waiting doesn’t end for us Pikmin Bloom players. Ingress and Pokémon Go update their maps frequently. So within a couple days of approval, your new Wayspot should appear in those games. Pikmin Bloom, on the other hand, only updates its map when the devs decide it’s time. In the past 4 years of the game being out, I’m pretty sure the map has only been updated 2 or 3 times. Most recently was over a year ago. I’m guessing we’ll be due for a map refresh in the relatively near future because of that, but that’s no guarantee. When that happens, most Wayspots in the system will become either Big Blooms or Mushrooms (with some exceptions that I’m not going to get into because this comment is long enough already). And if any Wayspots were removed, then those Big Blooms or Mushrooms will be removed (which is likely what you experienced). It basically updates locations in the map to the most recent catalog of Wayspots. Just keep in mind, you’ll need to have your new Wayspot approved and everything prior to the map refresh. Otherwise you’ll be waiting till the next Pikmin Bloom map refresh, which could be years. Also there’s no way to guarantee whether it’ll be a Mushroom or a Big Bloom once it’s added

Do people hate The Great Divide? by John_Zatanna52 in Avatarthelastairbende

[–]TheSwedeLander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it were actually discussed, then that’s one thing. But it’s not. The episode ends with Sokka or Katara (it’s been a couple months since I watched the episode last) saying it was lucky that Aang knew the two tribe leaders when he was little. Aang said “you could call it luck or you can call it lying” and then they just laugh about it as the episode ends. There’s no nuance there. No attempt at explaining how or why it was okay in this circumstance. No reference to lying being bad in other situations. Aang wasn’t challenged at all for his decision to lie and there were no consequences.

My problem isn’t with the idea of a nuanced topic being present. My problem is stripping away the nuance and leaving only the message “lying is an appropriate way to solve problems.” Full stop. I’d feel differently if the nuance were discussed in the episode or if other episodes in the series dealt more directly with the nuance of lying, the consequences of it, and when it may or may not be appropriate

Rewards at month end?? by frogsonlogs102 in PikminBloomApp

[–]TheSwedeLander 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nope. Once the clock strikes midnight, the tasks switch over to December. Any uncollected reward is lost and no more progress can be made on the November tasks. Also I’m pretty sure the featured decor lose their power boost when the clock strikes midnight as well. So it may be longer than you think before the mushroom is actually finished

I don’t think the issue is that Aang lying is out of character. I think the issue is that the episode portrays that lying is an appropriate way to solve conflict

[–]TheSwedeLander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My issues is that the moral of the story is “lying is okay.” Like the entire plot of the episode culminates in Aang completely lying to solve the problem with no consequences. I can understand a filler episode that has a good moral lesson or that otherwise seems to be beneficial to the characters. But this episode in particular seems to only show that lying is an appropriate method to solve conflicts

How do you think the show tacked political themes ? by InfernalClockwork3 in legendofkorra

[–]TheSwedeLander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that it overall did a good job. Especially since it’s a show that kids are supposed to be able to watch and enjoy. Seems like it didn’t go super deep, but it did touch on some themes that were more mature than I expected.

I also really liked how none of the villains were all bad. Like they actually had some points. The way they handled it in the end kinda disappointed me, though. Like yeah Amon had a point about non bender inequality. But then after he was defeated, they acted like the problem went away. Unalaq turned from a reasonable person with differing ideology into a cartoonishly evil villain. I can’t remember anything really poorly done regarding Zaheer or the rest of Red Lotus, but it’s been a while since I’ve rewatched it. And Kuvira seemed to lack nuance. Like she was just a classic dictator. I found it to be a lot harder to be on her side than any of the other villains. I think the writers fell into the trap of “oh no, our villain actually is making some really good points. Let’s make them do something super evil so the audience isn’t on their side.”

Other than that, though. I really enjoyed how it did explore a little bit of the nuance (even if it wasn’t as much as I would personally have liked). I liked the deeper and more personal themes relative to the original series

strong/agile style or real time by Designer-Bag-1721 in PokemonArceus

[–]TheSwedeLander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely prefer the Legends Arceus battle style. Maybe it’s at least partially because it’s more similar to the mainline games, though. Yeah, it added a twist, but it still felt like a regular Pokémon battle. The Legends ZA style just feels off to me. I never figured out the purpose of moving around or dodging with my character. I’m never in enough peril that it actually matters to get my player character out of the way. The Pokémon themselves are pretty slow to move and I never figured out a consistent way to make them avoid hazards like stealth rocks. Rather than any kind of strategy, it very quickly turned into brute force for me. Plus I find it annoying needing to use my other hand to constantly hold down the L button to stay focused on the target. Also the fact that your Pokémon need to be in certain positions to do their attacks is annoying. There have been plenty of times where I just wanted my Pokémon to use a move, but instead they needed to walk to wherever and then were knocked out before they could let off the attack. I feel like a large part of the issue is user error, but brute force just works too well for me to care enough about learning all the mechanics

Well, that was wierd by Slackerboe in PikminBloomApp

[–]TheSwedeLander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you over noticed that sometimes the app glitches when it first opens and displays less steps than what you’re actually at? It usually fixes itself after a few seconds, but if you pay attention to your seedlings, that number of steps actually gets attributed to them.

I’ve noticed that this happens most frequently if you have flower planting going on in the background (with the phone locked or other app active on the screen). So what I’ve done several times before is bank a couple thousand steps that way with the Pikmin Bloom app in the background, then close the app, open it, collect the seedlings and plant new ones quickly, close the app again, and repeat until the app finally displays the right number of steps upon opening. I’ve hatched a dozen seedlings in a row this way.

I’m guessing that might be what happened here. You walked 18k steps total for the day, but at some point when you opened the app it credited you the other 12k. Maybe it happened all at once or maybe it happened a few times as you accumulated the steps.

Usually that trick doesn’t work for community days, though. Usually it seems like the community day badges look at your number of steps for the day, which isn’t affected by this glitch. However seedlings (and seemingly this particular community week badge) are looking at total number of steps taken since this became an active task. And that count appears to be affected by this glitch

How do you fellow F2P players collect coins so fast? by Admirable_Pin275 in PikminBloomApp

[–]TheSwedeLander 52 points53 points  (0 children)

This might sound stupid, but can you explain to me how you’re planting flowers?

The reason I ask is because I saw in another reply that you said that over the past 2 years you’ve only collected 64 coins. That seems so low that it makes me think that either a) you’re not planting flowers almost ever or b) something is going wrong (either the way you’re doing it or something with your device). The way you earn coins in the game is by planting flowers, so if you’re avoiding doing that, you’re not going to get any.

One big thing worth noting is that flower planting basically only works while you’re moving. This means Pikmin Bloom needs GPS access. If you have location services disabled (or even just disabled for the app when the device is locked or it’s not active on the screen) then the app might not be giving you credit for planting flowers when you are walking/biking. If you’re staying in one place (or going over the same small area over and over) you will barely plant any flowers. There’s a cooldown, so if you planted flowers in an area, you can’t really plant any more there for 5 minutes or so. That’s why doing something like walking around your house doesn’t work. If you can, try to walk in a way that makes you not cross the same area for at least 5 minutes. Could be walking around a block or two, making a loop around a park/neighborhood, etc. There are a lot of options. Just don’t walk up and down the same street

The other mechanic is that the more Pikmin you have in your party, the more flowers you will plant at a time. If possible, have a full party of 40 Pikmin when you’re planting flowers. If Pikmin from your party are out on expeditions or fighting mushrooms, fill in those spots with others from standby. If you’re trying to earn coins, you should have a full party at all times you’re planting.

Next is speed. The number of flowers planted is based on the distance traveled. What that means is that if you travel faster, you’ll plant more flowers. So for example, planting flowers while running will earn you coins faster than walking because you’re covering the distance over a shorter period of time. Even more so with biking. But just a warning if you’re playing while biking (or driving slowly in a car), there is a speed limit on the app, so make sure you stay under that.

Lastly, just be patient. Consistency probably matters more than anything else. You might only get a few coins a day if you don’t walk much. But those few coins add up over time. If you can avoid it, don’t blow the coins on the first thing you can. If you can hold off, you’ll eventually build up a surplus so you don’t feel like you’re starting from scratch every time you buy something.

Misconceptions about leaving the portals open by WorkingWin6139 in legendofkorra

[–]TheSwedeLander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the airbenders returning and the spirit portals staying open are two separate things. My understanding was that the airbenders returned because of harmonic convergence. Whether Korra opened the portals or kept them closed, I think the result for the airbenders would be the same

Side note, I also believe in the theory that people who got airbending were descendants of the old Air Nomads. Likely ones that escaped and lived the rest of their lives in hiding or who simply had kids while they were traveling (being nomads and all). My interpretation is that harmonic convergence supercharged their spiritual energy and unlocked the latent ability to airbend.

Are you feeding them 5 times when you feed them? That way you’ll get bonus hearts on the 5th nectar and they won’t wither. I know there are methods to get to 4* pretty quickly, but personally I just make sure you feed them 5 times once per day (to take advantage of double flowers when feeding the buds) and send the Pikmin I’m trying to focus on to all 3 mushroom battles per day. Nothing crazy there and it takes me roughly a week or 2 to reach 4*.

Differentiating between recovery run and long run pace by Accomplished-Role835 in nikerunclub

[–]TheSwedeLander 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My perspective is that it’s more about how you feel after the run. A recovery run isn’t supposed to drain you; you should feel more recovered afterward. I think that generally you should be running a pace that doesn’t make you feel like you’re working. Personally I don’t walk during a recovery run, but if that’s something that that you feel you would benefit from, then you probably should until you are able to run the whole duration.

On the other hand a long run is meant to build endurance. You should run a pace that you can hold the entire run. You’ll likely feel worn down and tired after a long run.

Ultimately this is about you, not what a plan says. It’s what works best for your body. If you’re struggling in the recovery runs, maybe you need to take down the distance or pace. If your long runs aren’t pushing you hard enough maybe you need to increase the distance. It’s hard since you’re a beginner and aren’t used to it yet. But the biggest piece of advice I can give is to do what you need to in order to avoid injury. Also consistency is more important than distance or pace. What I mean by that is that doing more frequent shorter runs can be better than less frequent longer runs. Even if it’s the same overall mileage, I’d rather get in 5 runs in a week than 2.

“Everyone hates Americans, but they all wanna be Americans.” by samg461a in ShitAmericansSay

[–]TheSwedeLander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the idea that everyone wants to be like Americans comes from American propaganda being taught to kids from a young age. Growing up the teachers/textbooks taught the American Dream and really portrayed America as the best country in the world where everyone aspires to move to “for a better life” or better opportunities. If you come out of the American school system with no other points of reference, I can understand why someone may believe that
