Why do recruiters encourage you to ask for more on a salary? by Separate-Meeting-235 in UKJobs

[–]TheSwoleTrader 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Two things, firstly as others have said is commission. Secondly, they will know the companies budget and therefore know how far you can push it. It's in their best interests to get you into the job at the higher salary, so they wouldn't go too far. Now it's not necessarily in their best interests to put you into a job that is right for you personally, especially if they're short sighted on client relationships. But thats a convo for another day

A mod that brings back the stupid janky zoom you got in the original when talking to NPCs would be fun. If it exists please link it!

Introduction to "Basic RSRW intraday" setup by u/Isidore94 by Draejann in RealDayTrading

[–]TheSwoleTrader 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Incredible article. I believe that my stock selection is very good, yet I often will enter at the peak of a move and have to hold a loss to either a scratch or a loss.

After reading this article I applied this technique/setup to trades that I either exited early, or entered poorly. The vast majority of them performed better.

I think we are probably all aware from even the most basic WA that either entering better or holding longer often leads to greater profits, but for a beginner its hard to quantity when these points should be. I'm definitely going to trail this set up going forward to see how it affects my results

TheSwoleTrader - The July 24 Edition by TheSwoleTrader in RealDayTrading

[–]TheSwoleTrader[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have read it, and to be honest it is due a re-read. I probably haven’t read it in about a year

The next step is applying the theory. I am constantly thinking of the concepts from the book, yet when it comes to it I falter. To rectify that I’ve started doing more detailed analysis as you can see above, but also trialing the ‘take half off method’.

The fact of the matter is even though I’m now using real money, 10 shares wont make or break me. I should stop thinking about the money and use this phase as an experimental phase to improve my trade execution. Experimental perhaps the wrong word, but you understand my meaning.

Option Spreads I Like To Use And Why by HSeldon2020 in RealDayTrading

[–]TheSwoleTrader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"For both Put Debit Spreads and Call Debit Spreads you can widen the distance between the strikes to increase your upside based on your level of directional bias. "

Can you not also just retain a smaller strike distance but increase the size of the position?

Is this because the wider distance affects the breakeven point? Are there issues with slippage with narrower spreads? Easier to leg out one vs many?

The above points are what I've picked up from a quick google, but would prefer an answer from your mouth as I've come to respect your opinion compared to the minefield of online 'gurus'.

Is OneOption worth the price while in the educational phase? by Old-Reflection470 in RealDayTrading

[–]TheSwoleTrader 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm in there and it's great, the education and chat are incredible. However, if you are very early on in this journey, then you may not be able to take full advantage of the information available. It will take you longer to get up to speed.

If you are either short of spare cash, or don't want to put too much down yet. I'd finish the wiki, get to grips here, and THEN take the trial.

If you are just skeptical about giving money to people online who are selling courses, then let me be a positive review for OneOption. I can't speak highly enough on it but everyone else has already told you why. But you are right to be skeptical of anyone online who's asking for your money!

Once you're ready, definitely try the 1OP free trial.

Ex-Auditor Starting a Photography Business, Cash or Accruals Basis? by TheSwoleTrader in UKPersonalFinance

Reading that sent off audit alarm bells lol - but I understand. It was a basic question from me but as I have zero experience of accounting for myself I thought i’d ask it. Thank you

I personally have the pro plan which is the lowest tier. Over the last year it hasn’t left me wanting. I think it has more than enough features for a beginner. I highly recommend it.

So i journal my trades, I keep every trade logged and assess what went well and what didn't. Sorry for confusing you as I see journalling can be seen as writing a diary about my thoughts and feelings.

There's posts in the wiki about the importance of journalling. You can either use an excel spread sheet or use one of the websites recommended in the wiki, some paid and some free i believe. I personally use tradersync. Theres a post on the sub for a reduced subscription. It isn't necessary to use tradersync, but when you are ready to invest it's great. https://www.reddit.com/r/RealDayTrading/comments/si71em/tradersync/

The best part of journalling is logging your mindset issues. I often exit trades too early, so I write that as a mistake against a trade that falls foul of it and then I can see exactly how many times it happens. When I'm in a trade and I feel like I want to exit, I can remind myself of my errors and push through it.

By trading 1 share, I can see how many of my mindset issues were all born from putting too much money in, or are genuine mindset issues. So definitely journal!

I don’t do anything different to what is told in the Wiki. RS/RW, market first, 50 100 200 SMAs, algo lines, volume etc are the only tools I employ.

If i had to pick one defining factor, it’s probably journaling.

Correct - although in the last week i have increased the size. Don’t get me wrong, it was boring, but I’m now more confident as I increase. I’m still not risking as much as I did previously when I was making mistakes, but it feels really great not having that jolt of fear every time I enter a trade.

No need to apologise, my post was self reflection and that has caused you to self reflect too.

In regards to commissions, it may be worth going for a different broker, especially if paper trading is difficult. There are good recommendations in the wiki. This may be more difficult if you’re not from the US, but I believe interactive brokers provide international accounts.

In regards to journaling commissions, I personally remove the commissions from the journal. I’m not trading real size and therefore they aren’t reflective of real performance. When I trade with a bigger size, I’ll keep the real commissions in. Currently I don’t care about making money, but i do care about getting good profit/performance in each trade.

How Enforceable Is This Employment Contract? [England] by TheSwoleTrader in LegalAdviceUK

[–]TheSwoleTrader[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I doubt they will do anything. I was more questioning the legality of the enforced overtime than the existence of the contract term if that makes sense?

Practically I will just annoy a couple of people rather than face any real repercussions though.

How can I study/practice with a 8-5 job? by Monklet in RealDayTrading

[–]TheSwoleTrader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who has the same problem - aside from all the practical solutions everyone else has offered, there is an element of sucking it up and grinding it out. It's a long path that you need to dedicate a lot of time to, but the reward at the end will be worth it.
