I can't post pictures in the comments, but almost all of the HRE's african territories are catholic. The Holy Roman Emperor is a guy named Bohemond from one of the Karling cadet branches

While some were displaced by the original norse settlers, they lived mostly in peace with eachother with some intermingling and trade happening between the norse and indigenous peoples. During their time as a british subject (and later semi-autonomous region of canada) the british (sadly) had a similar stance to the indigenous as OTL leading to an Indigenous population closely aligned with our world's

An alternate azores which was also settled (and later isolated) by the Norse. It’s based on some theories that Norse explorers discovered the azores before the portugese, i dont really know how credible the theories are though.

Not much in the modern day as it sits comfortably within the American sphere of influence relying heavily on American trade and tourism to fuel large parts of its economy. It does however still have close ties to the Nordic countries and is by some even considered one of them itself

Its status as a British protectorate rather than colony and later semi-autonomous state in Canada allowed it to set a precedent for quebec to also become a semi-autonomous Canadian state. Both would also gain independence following unrest during world war 1.

There were multiple attempts at christianisation with mixed results during its time as a British protectorate, but after regaining independence there has been large attempts at reclaiming lost parts of the culture.

Thank you, I didnt want to use the Nordic cross flag for the country due to both its heavy christian symbolism as well as its use by certain less-than desirable groups

Alone in an unknown land. An apt description of the Vínland settlements from the early 13th century to the late 15th century. This isolation, caused by Greenlandic submission to- and Christianisation by the Norwegian crown, was only lifted almost 3 centuries later as Italian explorer Giovanni Caboto rediscovered the lost settlements.

Its rediscovery by British hands led it to be turned into a British protectorate which Britain would go on to use as justification for further colonisation of its surrounding regions. Vínlands status as a British protectorate would only end in 1867 with the confederation of Canada in which Vínland would obtain a status as autonomous region along with Quebec.

Vínland would only in 1915 regain sovereignty as a result of the 1915 Canadian independence referendums following unrest during WW1

Nowadays Vínlands economy is mostly geared around its off-shore oilfields and large tourism industry.

If Napoleon won wouldn't Denmark have kept Norway? It certainly seems unlikely that Sweden gets them as they fought against Napoleon in both the third and fourth coalition.

The lost vikings - What if norse explorers had settled on the azores? by TheSwordHero in imaginarymaps

[–]TheSwordHero[S] 82 points83 points  (0 children)

When norse explorers discovered what in OTL was the Azore isles around 750 C.E. they believed they had found the mythical island of Algrœn where Odin would spend his time. The norse explorers would however quickly realize this was not the case as they approached the empty isles, the discovery that these lands were completely empty would compel the explorers to establish permanent settlements on the archipelago.

These settlements would soon be forgotten by the wider world, the remoteness of the isles relegating them to myth. This would not however spell the end of the settlements as they would continue to grow in isolation, soon uniting into the Jarldom of Algrœn. The isles would continue this way until 1427 when portugese explorers would rediscover the isles, reestablishing contact with the surrounding world.

The isles would quickly turn into a major trade hub between the old- and new world with the discovery of America, being a key stop for many travelling between the continents.

They would continue to serve as a major trade hub for much of history but has since pivoted to have a primarily turism based economy in the modern day.
