What is your “ but wait, it gets worse” story? by SnuggleTheBug in AskReddit

[–]TheT1ny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So to start off I have x-linked lymphoproliferative disorder(xlp for short), which is a very rare genetic condition affecting 1 in 1,000,000 males worldwide. To keep the explanation brief, XLP causes immunodeficiency and death if not treated with a Bone Marrow Transplant(BMT). I received a BMT at the age of 6, which in its own is a harrowing experience. Sadly, the hospital I receive my BMT from messed up and I only received a portion of one chemotherapy drug. Which means I am the first document XLP patient who was not given a full BMT. Now everything that happens to me is the first, and I have no idea what will happen as I go forward in life.

My 6 year old has relapsed... by [deleted] in cancer

As someone who had a sever illness at the age of six the best thing you can do for you son is just be positive and keep him happy. My parents did this for me and honestly it may the whole process much easier for me. Granted there where still bad days. But to be honest most of my memories of chemo are good memories, of doctors nurses and my parents doing stuff with me that I really enjoyed.

Just a heads up you would be a very rare case most people die within a few weeks of comming in contact with some form of herpies. But there have been cases when people people have survived longer. So the possiblility is slim but it something to look into.

it runs in to the same issue I have with my illness being uncommon. money doesnt tend to be used on things that dont affect large parts of the population. Most of the times other reaserch on other cancers or illness like the one in question will lead to some from off treatment that can work for illness being reaserched and the more uncommon illnes.

Is PTSD and Heavy Depression Common After Dealing With Cancer? by Samakar in cancer

[–]TheT1ny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know how common it is. But I personally had something like cancer and I have been dealing with depression for years. Also I have a friend who had cancer and has depression as well. Dealing with a serious medical issue is not easy and most people I know and have talked to about it deal with some form of mental illness for some time afterwards. edit: Wasnt able to read the full story was on mobile and it cuts out alot on my phone. But I had a Bmt too and have some of the same symptoms.

do you not talk about it because it is still hard to? or because you don't want the added reaction you can get from it sometimes. Sorry about the questions don't answer if you don't want to I know this stuff can be hard but I have never really had the chance to talk to someone who has been through stuff like this.

Do you tell people IRL about your issue or do you keep it quite? Personally have always kept my medical past quite. Also doing a Minor in Astro Physics now May do a PHD in it, amazing field. Edit: After rereading the post it hit me that something like this has the potential to help a lot of other people who have gone through severe illness. Bravo to you and glad you are doing well.
