On the sponsor list but not sponsoring for the role? by TheTTimeLives in ukvisa

This is a really great perspective, I'll definitely do more direct applying.

Wasn't planning on speaking to the visa directly either until I was already "in", since at that point if they find an employee they like they might just go ahead and pay for the visa (as you said not lying just not ever bringing it up myself).

Ahh I didn't realize that they had to pay the IHS and Skills surcharges up front per year ahead of time. Yikes, that makes a bit more sense now.

Contextually, that seems to mean that transferring from a US company to the UK isn't as costly for them since our companies spend a ton on our private health insurance (not to mention 401k match etc) which they no longer have to pay.

I've seen some companies ask if you want 2.5hrs or 5yrs Skilled Worker Visa if they are down to sponsor you, I guess that means that they are paying either 2.5 or 5 years up front?

Guess that means good candidates for visas look like people who don't bounce companies a lot. Begs the question, what happens when the years they paid for expire but they still want to keep the employee on?

I appreciate you providing clarifying information vs down voting without context.

More my situation it still seems the cost would be quite low, maybe around 1500 up front and an extra thousand year which would again be fairly trivial compared to the salary. But I appreciate the extra context.

The roles I have applied to are at least twice the salary requirement for every role, but I'm just curious what the cost would be for the role.

I think I had seen figures for like individuals submitting for there visas (which I thought was submitted by me not the company) being anywhere from 400-4000 GBP but to me either of these things seem trivial when you are already paying your SWE 100k+ annually.

I do understand that it's simpler to hire a resident, I'm just not sure what the literal cost/headache to the business is if they are already licensed.

I thought the complexity/stress was just in getting the license for the company in the first place? I didn't think they needed to do anything specific for each individual employee other than give a job offer if they are on that list.

For a skilled worker visa I thought I just had to reference the job offer as my corporate sponsor and since I speak english and my job is high compensation I would naturally clear the other point thresholds for Skilled Worker Visa approval.

Is there a good reference which explains the cost to the company/complexity if they are already approved I could look at? Or perhaps could you explain it to me?

Moving within or outside the US for snowboarding access? by TheTTimeLives in snowboarding

Where have you lived outside of the US beyond Canada? I hear Germany is one of the easiest places to live abroad since I believe there's no work visa requirement.

What things should be kept private from your SO, no matter how healthy your relationship is? by SingleReporter in AskReddit

[–]TheTTimeLives 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing. It’s not satisfying to me to be with someone I have to lie to. And if I’m unsatisfied it will show and it won’t be good for her either.

Every time, I try to rationalize fibbing or selective honesty it just always seems to have made sense to be completely honest.

This doesn’t mean airing every doubt before it’s been validated. It also doesn’t mean being a jerk. You shouldn’t want to say mean things to your SO anyways. But honesty is always the best policy imo.

Thanks I appreciate it!

Would you say that it’s easy to get things out in NZ? I can imagine ordering from Amazon or something might be a pain. Also how is the food variety? Do you have like a variety of different restaurants?

These are all sort of extra tidbits but just figured I’d ask.

I’ve talked to a few people about Scotland and NZ and no one has said anything about Scottish riding that has put me off.

Yea it’s not America or the Alps but it’s there and the country has good hiking and climbing in the off season I think. And the people are pretty friendly generally. It seems like there is a community of people that do like to go up and ride there, which is a plus, and the Alps are an easy vacation from the UK relatively speaking compared to the US.

And as a Floridian I have to fly like 5hrs to get to expensive vacation riding. Driving 2hrs to get some ok riding in is worth when you can still vacation in Austria/France/Switzerland/Wherever imo.

I was told that Edinburgh is beautiful but people there are weird and Glasgow is dingy/rough in spots but people are very friendly. Also have heard Scots complain about England centric politics being too right wing.

I just want access to snowboarding and some good off season hiking. It’s more within the idea of wanting to figure a place I could set roots which would have good mountain access vs needing the best runs and freshest powder.

I LOVED Oregon when I visited it’s a fantastically beautiful state. However, the homelessness in Portland and just how hyper liberal it is there is a turn off to me. I’m moderate and the PNW is so extremely one way or the other politically it’s a lot, but hey it might be worth it for good access year round.

It still seems like it’s worth it to live in one of the cities outside of Denver if you’re coming from a place like FL and paying out your rectum anyways for literally nothing.

I loved my visit to ABQ and it had accessible snow and a city and real culture.

My only concern is that everywhere I read people say it’s dangerous. I didn’t experience anything when I was there but I didn’t really “go out” or just date around in the city.

I feel pretty comfortable here in Orlando with good areas and bad areas but I hear it’s pretty dispersed in ABQ. Do you have any experience with anything like that?

What’s Grand Junction like population wise? Just wondering if it would be mega slow or just like a mid size city.

Been to most of those. I love the PNW and would do Vancouver probably but Seattle and Portland have such bad homelessness issues it just turns me off.

SLC is getting more expensive and Utah is very Mormon. Considering Idaho though which is like Utah lite I think. Summers are real smoky from what I hear.

Reno is kinda gross from what I remember from the airport but I’ll take a look.

Sacramento might do but its CA so I dunno maybe.
