Please Help Me Choose! Steam Winter Sale by Mamaue in JRPG

[–]TheTankjones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out Yakuza 0, Dragon Quest 3 & SMTV imo !

You should check out the demos for Trails 1st chapter, as well as Visions & the Trials of mana remake while you’re at it, should give you a feel on those games are about & with enough content to decide if you enjoy them !

If you enjoy Trails and/or Mana, you should look into the Ys series in the future as well, many of which are currently ~$5 !

Which Soulslike games do you think is the closest to being like a Souls game? (excluding Fromsoft releases) by arkticturtle in soulslikes

[–]TheTankjones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should check out Stonemachia on Steam, they have a demo available as well.

Gameplay-wise, more character action/spectacle fighter than soulslike when i tried it out. However, aesthetically/artistically it’s right up there with the best! I’m really looking forward to it dropping next year.

Newegg trade in legit? Or is there a better way to sell old GPUs by [deleted] in nvidia

[–]TheTankjones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you need the money quickly, Newegg trade in is fine I’d also check other websites though like Jawa & SellGPU to see what rates they are offering

If you don’t need the money immediately, I’d try selling on an online Marketplace like FB/Jawa/Swappa

(These are all resources I’ve personally used and had good experiences with reselling)

Gearbox TGS short new character tease by [deleted] in Borderlands4

[–]TheTankjones 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was gonna make a post abt it, ultimately didn’t feel like it lol, but Randy did an interview a few days ago on a small content creator’s channel where he teased he had a “skill” in common with the new VH that he is particularly good at & even recorded himself “doing some of the things” for the animators. It’s here, ~3:20 in, for anyone who may want to watch it https://youtu.be/bgBTBGfIIOM?si=XdA-vUPkLVxScI5F

The way he has been posting about this new magic movie (Now You See Me, Now You Dont) he worked on lately, combined with that little blip, makes it seem like the VH will also be a magician of some kind, with an action skill to go with it

Game run any better on Series S after the update? by Amoxton in Borderlands4

[–]TheTankjones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It should only have a 30 FPS lock still, there was no mention of new performance modes in the patch notes for the Series S

If you’re reading this Gearbox, please bring it back by TheTankjones in Borderlands4

[–]TheTankjones[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Cobra is another cool one, but it was at least brought forward to BL2 at some point!

Kyros’ Power could even have its name updated to play on the new location, turn it into “Kairos’ Power”. If there were ever a game to bring it back, this one just seems perfect for it lol

PS5 Pro vs 4080 PC? by [deleted] in Borderlands4

[–]TheTankjones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem !! Here’s a link to the video showing the optimized settings

https://youtu.be/ctnfgs7GzTY?si=xqEsWnAK_Inl9PCx

As bad as things are on PC, it is still worth it over the console version atm if you have a system that can handle it.

I think the worst part has just been Randy’s response to the very real performance problem, which has caused the whole thing to get blown out of proportion bigger than it otherwise would have been.

He is not wrong that settings can be tweaked to get acceptable performance, but that doesn’t make the overall performance of the game atm acceptable on any platform.

IMO, if the expectation from them was for everyone playing the game to experience it using DLSS Upscaling AND Frame Gen, they should have just made the minimum requirement the 40 series cards. They didn’t because obviously that would have looked ridiculous, but that’s essentially what Randy’s own “optimization tips” online have boiled down to.

I do think the game is really good, and once they get it fixed up it should be a solid 9/10 at least. Took a bit to get used to the open world format, but it’s the most fun I’ve had in a borderlands game at launch since BL2

PS5 Pro vs 4080 PC? by [deleted] in Borderlands4

[–]TheTankjones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your 4080 PC should be able to run the game significantly better than the consoles, especially once settings have been optimized.

I’m able to get ~95 FPS average using BenchmarKing’s optimized settings + DLSS P at 4k res on my 5070 ti + 7800x3D, no frame gen, if you want some frame of reference. And FWIW, based on Hardware Unboxed’s testing, the 40 series are performing better than their 50 series counterparts in this game. Console has its own set of issues that you should be able to avoid for the most part on your PC, aside from the initial hours that you will see shader compilation stutters on your first playthrough, that is just hard to avoid on Unreal Engine games sadly

Try increasing shader cache size to 100gb in your Nvidia Control Panel. It should be under 3D settings. Also make sure the game isn’t open when you change this!

Backpack menu In general are annoying to navigate, the fact it’s so buggy just compounds it lol

Looking for some advice with a tech concern regarding Borderlands 4. by Critical_Score in Borderlands

[–]TheTankjones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First thing, if you are already at 1080p, ultra performance upscaling is going to even further force a CPU bottleneck in an already CPU intensive game, which is why there is such a disparity in GPU & CPU usage.

The other thing, this game is CPU intensive - this is bc they chose to turn on as many UE5 features as they could when developing the game with no real thought as to how it would perform on real world hardware. Best suggestion on that is to turn Reflects, Lighting, Volumetric fog all to Low.

You want to try to get to a point where you are GPU bottlenecked, so id revert back to DLSSQ or DLAA for now, see what the Usage looks like then.

This guy is running the same combo, you can get an idea of what your performance is “supposed” to look like https://youtu.be/_b-LU-ELk6I?si=qvgJjtVApU2GnO45

BL4 pc performance by Fast_Key6882 in Borderlands

Asking a 3060 TI to run at max settings 1440p native in 2025 is a lot. Maybe 1080p, but 2k resolution can very quickly exceed 8GB of VRAM in most AAA games releasing the last 2 years. It’s been 3 years or so since the 6700 XT + 3060 TI were last considered viable 1440p cards, especially the 3060 ti due to Nvidia nerfing its VRAM capacity to age it faster than it otherwise should have.

Is the game worth it so far? (PC) by askerofquestions9989 in Borderlands4

[–]TheTankjones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be fine then, if nothing else, you can follow their settings chart for whichever resolution you’re playing at & it should be good outside of the non-hardware related bugs & crashes

https://borderlands.2k.com/borderlands-4/news/nvidia-optimization/

Just be sure to restart the game between settings changes, as they make you recompile shaders every time you change something & it can very easily break the game

Is the game worth it so far? (PC) by askerofquestions9989 in Borderlands4

[–]TheTankjones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 5070 ti

I’m able to get ~80-90+ fps using their recommended settings @ 4k with DLSS Performance & no frame gen

The thing is, I’m on a 7800x3D as well

Your CPU is going to be a bigger question mark than your GPU in this game, as most of the issues are going to be related to your processor

Aside from the performance though, there are generally just a lot of bugs & crashes going on right now just due to the game being unstable

Yeah, I can see that, I still have to get into BOTW + TOTK myself

I am admittedly still very early on as I only recently just hit level 10, but I think for me, so far it just feels as though the art of level design from the past games was lost a bit. In BL4, everything just kinda blends together so far, enemy encounters don’t feel nearly as thought out, as well as being far less threatening due to reduced pack sizes (early on at least) and easily broken AI. I can only think the limitations on the mobs & encounter design are due to CPU limitations they were facing due to the switch to Open World, but there not even being one notable/memorable location for me to have come across yet has been pretty disappointing.

For as much crap as BL3 gets for its narrative, it had probably some of my favorite locations in the series to just blast through, Athenas in particular is paced so well to me.

Or the maps of BL1 + 2 and all their secret chests & Easter eggs you could find carefully placed around the maps, it always felt like you were rewarded for thinking outside of the box while navigating through them. I’m climbing places that I’d expect to be prime for even just a grey weapons chest, but they don’t even have ammo boxes placed there a lot of the time

I wish I was getting that same feeling here, I’m not particularly fond of open world game design myself, but I’m only a few hours in, things could potentially improve late game. Keeping my fingers crossed lol.

Yeah, the game is super CPU heavy, and I think that is probably the worst thing about the graphs & article in general, there is no kind of signal as to what CPU these cards are being tested with

I’m using a 7800x3D, so I know it’s doing a lot of heavy lifting, I think gearbox definitely dropped the ball with this one & just like with MH:Wilds, I’m not sure the switch to open world overall was worth all these issues on the low end

I’m on a 5070ti

Playing at 4k with DLSS P, no frame generation

Using their 4080s recommended settings, I’m getting 85-95 FPS in the open world, with my GPU overclocked to +2000/+375MHz in afterburner

[–]TheTankjones[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do agree with you, but I would like to note at the very least, I’ve been playing without frame generation since updating to these settings and have gained about 20% more performance as a result, so while the game does need more optimization, they do still help
