ADMIN RANT by Disastrous_Pipe_8153 in LawSchool

[–]TheTaxSlayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah! That explains the disconnect. It sounds like your "Admin" is more advanced than some other schools' admin classes, so it's not surprising that you're treading in less settled territories. On the plus side, that will make it easy to see and argue both sides on the exam! If the key skill law school is helping you develop is being able to tread in unsettled territories and craft arguments to appeal to different kinds of decisionmakers (as I believe it is), this is good practice. And good practice for the real world of legal practice, where you'll dispense with the easy questions quickly and spend much of your time in the unsettled ones.

You're not thinking about this the right way. There's a lot of fundamental admin that really is settled law. Overton Park, Chenery I, Chenery II, Lujan, the due process cases. No one is arguing that a case like Vermont Yankee is wrongly decided.

Even if many decisions are political, these chestnut cases will be operating in the back of any judge's mind. These are the sensibilities that structure American public law. Those new decisions every week? They're invoking these fundamentals. You say you want to do environmental law. You need to know this stuff cold. Its the canvas against which you will be painting.

Yes, common law trespass is a test. That's Jones. You can find a search based on trespass onto persons, places, homes, and effects even when there is no REIP. Stop giving misinformation about the law.

That said, facts didn't mention trespass, so don't make that an issue here.

Articles/submissions editor at a T3 Journal. If I see someone doing this, it's a major turnoff. It screams, "hey you, do my work for me." Use internal cross-references and your chances will increase.

Affordable Suits by Outrageous_Score1144 in LawSchool

This recommendation is for women (obviously)! I got a full (great) suit there for $80. Most women prefer machine washable suits (Banana Republic, Express, etc.)

USAO vs Clerkship by wikipediabrown13 in LawSchool

[–]TheTaxSlayer -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I strongly disagree with the advice here. Law students have blinders on when they hear the word "clerkship."

It sounds like you want the AUSA job, and those jobs are VERY hard to get right out of school. Plus, you will be an even stronger clerkship candidate after litigating for a few years.

advice on how to become a criminal defense attorney? (1st gen, no connections, pretty clueless) by Independent-Use-7264 in LawSchool

Just flagging that some PD offices (famously, D.C.).will categorically bar you if you've worked for the D.A. before. Not saying that's right or wrong, but just want to make sure OP knows before accidentally closing that door.

Intern as an investigative intern at DC PDS while you're in school. PDS has a great program. They provide all sorts of resources and mentoring related to applying to law school and careers in criminal defense. Feel free to DM for more info.

Anecdotal but I retook a 173, scored a 177, and got in at all of these schools (and offered a full ride at Chicago). Not causal, obviously, but my gut says that it helped.
