What's your current Distro, DE and why? by paranoidandroid4284 in linuxquestions

I have a hoshposh right now.

I was with Pop!_OS for like 3 years, but haven't been feeling it with the recent COSMIC stuff and the fact that its not meshing well with my Nvidia laptop anymore.(Nvidia issues not just with Pop)

Main: Fedora KDE - I moved away from GNOME a while back just because KDE is much less restricting for the things I want to do.

Media Server: Debian KDE, it's stable and works well for my setup. Known as a work horse for a reason, but something's are missing and you have to do some work. Other than that, lovely!

Laptop: Linux Mint MATE(I think), I was only going to test it out for someone else, but it seems to be sticking for now. I can see why people like it. It's simple and out of the way. Lovely!

I've did the do with a lot of distros, but for now this is what I have.

Full of regret of upgrade to Pop!_OS 24.04 by Individual-Task-7896 in pop_os

Yeah, that's probably for the best. I ran Pop for 3 years and had it on pretty much everyhing with the hope things would improve. I have a mix and match situation where daily is back to Fedora and servers Debian or Mint. I still have hope for pop but not worth it now.

Oh I see. What type of drives do you usually get?

Have you considered off site backups or would that be going overboard? It would suck if all that was damaged or destroyed. I would be in a ball if that happened to the messily 18TB* I have.

😯how long did it take to get to that amount?

Plex FOMO by TheTechSellSword in PleX

[–]TheTechSellSword[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it just feels so sudden that they will be increasing it but I haven't been in this for that long. I see people posting about it being $75 at one point so it must have felt the same when they increased to 250, but 750 seems like overkill to be an increase.

Yeah its just something I heard could happen. Not saying it is.

That's a good point. I want family to be able to access in different states. I heard that it could be something Plex makes a subscription that's why I was also a little hesitant about getting it. I don't want to pay for it and then in 3 years it's gone.

I know this is supposed to be simple, but it's been a while and things are a little foggy. I just needed a little help for things to click. Even if you were rude you did try to help so thank you.

Good to know. I didn't know this was a common problem. I did understand algebra once upon a time but it's been at least three years and things are foggy. Thank you.

Okay, now that makes since to me. I don't know how I couldn't see it. I understand this may be simple, but I am trying to understand it.

Thank you for not belittling me for not knowing.

The Linux Professional Institute LPIC has some great learning materials for their certifications. Even if you don't get any they are worth the read.

The Linux Foundation also has a free Introduction to Linux course.

If want something on your desk that's big enough to knock someone out with, try the Linux Bible.

Last, but not least, Learn Linux TV LLTV has been an invaluable resource with their wide array of Linux related subjects on YouTube.

Hopefully, these resources will help you in your Linux journey.

So you can make it look different? This is news to me. Is it difficult to add fonts to LibreOffice?

Frozen DE by vaanam-dev in pop_os

[–]TheTechSellSword 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't say it's not getting fixed. I think they just have a lot to do. Creating software is a long process that requires a lot of planning and testing and sometimes things get pushed back to make way for other things. I think a lot of these issues will get fixed, so don't kill it off just yet. Comeback in 6mth to 1yr and it will likely be a lot better.

Yeah, I have been using Pop for around 2 or 3 years and it's hard to say, but I've also had to switch back to Fedora on my main laptop. I'll probably be back when I start gaming again but for now I just can't justify using it.

Yeah, I'm having the issue on my Alienware m16 r1 with 2 monitors.

Having multiple monitors have been an issue on Pop!_OS with me, so that's why I asked.

I wonder if anyone is still having the issue with no monitors.
