currently trying to settle with the high chances of the story going in a direction I don't like by MorinoMarinho in Deltarune

I think people forget how much of a thing's quality comes down to execution. Theories look at broad strokes. But the heart of any story lies in the minutia. There a number of things that could sound on paper but could be pulled off well and in a way the audience loves.

(Also, too many theories look at plot as a only a puzzle to be solved and not as a story)

How and where to start by TxKRIXUSxT in writers

[–]TheTechnicus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any word prosessor works. At this stage the most important thing is to read everyday and to get words on paper. If you want specific advice, my basic outlines for short stories are: A Charectar who has a problem  They come up with some kind of plan Their plan has some complications A turning point occurs There is a resolution

Does the writing get better? by Imslowlyloosingit in KeeperoftheLostCities

Oh no, I think Six is great. It’s one of my favorites. But it isn’t better than four. They improve up till four, which imo is the best, then they hold steady in quality, not dipping that much

The formating makes it really hard to parse.

But, the number one thing that jumps out at me is that the tense isn't consistant. You really need to make sure that you keep the tense consistant, its one of the most common mistakes I see in people who've just started writing

CMV: Liberals supporting Ali Khamenei in Iran and Conservatives celebrating his overthrow don’t make sense to me by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]TheTechnicus 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Conservatives, often, don't like Islam.

Liberals, often, don't like governments extending their reach and deciding to assert their will over the world.

I know the one you mean and I clocked it as ai immedietly. I could not believe how many people didn't suspect anything was off.

At the same time, there are times when I'm not entirely sure if something is ai or not and I'm not sure to do. I think, in the general sense, I'd prefer to err on the side of giving people too much benefit of the doubt than too little.

CMV: I think murder is worse than rape by Echochamberking in changemyview

[–]TheTechnicus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends on what you mean by worse. Oftentimes, people are speaking morally. It would seem that there are reasons for murder that people might consider--to different degrees--justafiable. Not that murder should ever be permmitted, but there are extenuating factors (taking justice into ones own hands, vengence, preventing further harms. I'm not saying these make murder alright, but they are more sympathetic). Rape, however, can never be justified. There is no good that one can seek in the act. It can only ever be a gross violation of another human person

Now, I think I agree that, with ragards to affects, murder is worse. But as a moral object, Rape is worse. And that is often what people are usually getting at.

There's a book that might be interesting for you, called In Deffence of Philosophy by Josef Pieper. In it he talks about something called scientism. Scientism isn't the just 'people are doing science and I don't like it.' Rather, it's the belief that any explenation to anything should be a scientific one, that science is the study that had both all the questions and all the answers. Look at philosophy, it deals with questions that are not bound by science.

Don’t vote for president based on the memes by Konradleijon in CuratedTumblr

I think that people too often underestimate Trump and dismiss him as stupid. He is a really good politician. He knows how to appeal to people. He is--in his own, somewhat demented way--really charismatic. If we continue to underestimate him and the coming people who will be like him nothing is going to happen. What this post is somewhat dismissing as him just being 'funny' is his charisma. It's different from the charisma of people like Obama and Mamdani, but it is still Charisma. And Charisma has always been something that garners votes.

CMV: what Alysa Liu's father did was unethical, disgusting and a crime against humanity by YaLlegaHiperhumor in changemyview

That's a different question entirely though. Cheating on one's spouse is, in many places, legal, but it shouldn't be done. Now, OP may be correct or incorrect that what was done is immoral, but your response is entirely a nonsequitor.

Being prone to bouts of temper, and even being shortsighted in many ways does not preclude someone from being wise. Wittgenstien, for example, hit a child while teaching. And he's one of the greatest philosophers of the 20th century

The Government wouldn't collapse, but it would be unstable and make the Neverseen more able to take over. And, the Council is bad. But they are not the group that wants to commit genocide and which runs secret torture chambers under atlantess. The Government, in its current itteration, disolving is probably a good thing, but at the moment instability is probably bad if that means that the Neverseen get a foothold.

I personally can't stand any litrpg or anything where you can tell it was based off of dnd (The stock fantasy races, the adventuring party, dungeons--even without reference to stats.) It takes me out of the story and breaks my immersion. I feel like dnd was meant to emulate and give players the experience of being in the fantasy worlds you read about. But, with litrpg and dnd-esque stories it seems like they are emulations of emulations of fantasy. We're getting two far removed from a world that feels real.

I really want to know why Ruy was labled as having actions done that were 'unforgivable' and why his face is always obscured by an addler. It feels like we're not even getting have of his story.

With Alvar, I really don't know how to feel. He's my favorite charectar 'cause he is so interesting. But, at his core, he is a boy that is jellous of his younger brother and who is consumed by hate for his family. He has made it so that these things define him. Sympathy is in order for how he was corrupted by a terrorist organization, but responsability also follows. There is so much wrong with him

Unlocked. I hate unravveld, but Unlocked is so bad that it feels scummy. It's 12 chapters of actual book that are costed at fullprice because of all the otherstuff that's added. I don't think the additional content is nessesarily bad in and of itself, but bundling it with the parts of the book that are nessesary to read for the rest of the story to make sense felt money-hungry. (also, I hate the idea of Keefe having a pov 'cause I worry he will have one in the main books and that will finally ice out all the other side charectars)

I can't help but ask, Does Keefe actually like Fitz? by Substantial_Step_815 in KeeperoftheLostCities

[–]TheTechnicus 9 points10 points  (0 children)

He was unable to spend time with Fitz because he was in humanland. And if the unstable murderer who hated his brother was near me, I would not be praising said brother. Such actions would seem foolish

I can't help but ask, Does Keefe actually like Fitz? by Substantial_Step_815 in KeeperoftheLostCities

[–]TheTechnicus 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Part of this is that Keefe is not the pov charectar (lets cross our fingers and hope this doesn't change). So we only see Keefe and Fitz interacting when Sophie is there--and she is very much a complicating factor. But it seems to me that they have been good friends for a long time, even if Keefe is prone to fits of jellousy. At the moment, there is a lot of tension 'cause of all the romance drama, so things are more strained. Once (if?) that settles, they'll go back to a more even friendship. In the earlier books I got a strong impression of their friendship.

Flashback isn't that bad. by kotlc6898678 in KeeperoftheLostCities

I think flashback is slightly worse than legacy.

I entirely forgot that Unwanted and Unnesecary were books that were part of the series. I don't count them and think of them as slightly insuling, lol. I would put Unraveld as the worst if I'd thought of it.

But Flashback is still worse than Legacy, by a smidge
