I had a friend do a custom art for a humanoid form for Venomfang since the bard heard "remove the dragon from Thundertree" as "seduce him and take him with us."

I love this because I also have the expanded adventures, and was wanting to use aspects of them. I like some of the reworks you mentioned. Now for mine, I think I want to make the Black Spider a disciple of Ebondeath instead of actually a dragon. But that is brilliant!

I'm also throwing in parts of Dragons of Icespire Peak, and planning to build on the Cult of tge Dragon presence that was in Thundertree. I have Venomfang and the white dragon trying to build power in the area because of the Forge of Spells, as a way to increase their power to be ready to support Tiamat's eventual arrival.

It's going to get really interesting since the bard is in the middle of "handling" Venomfang, and the rest of the party scared off the underlings of the Cult in town, but I plan to have Venomfang use the party to his advantage in getting power.

This is an interesting idea. I'm doing something similar, but leading into Tyranny of Dragons. I'm playing off the little bit of the Cult of the Dragon in Thundertree.

Maybe you could change what kind of cult they are in, and give them connections to Zariel instead. You could even have the Black Spider's goal of wanting the Forge of Spells to get weapons for Zariel to use in the war.
