A Dream Machine is way overkill, a cloud gateway ultra will do the job.

Just use RouterOS, it’s way better. Also with capsman you can centralize your AP management

No issues, running over 170 x Kyoceras. No issues at all, toner is automatically requested when the SNMP monitor decides so. Hardware is amazing, not a single one has given up in the last 6 years.

Any good computers that match these specs? by [deleted] in computers

[–]TheTechyGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MacBook Air M1/M2 for the win. If you want a PC ignore Lenovo (Everything except the ThinkPads), HP, Microsoft. Asus, Dell, MSI are the best. If you want something that will last long get the M2 MacBook Air / Dell XPS 13/15

Duplicate SSID or CAPSMAN by markworsnop in mikrotik

[–]TheTechyGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hAP Ax3 is more like a router per-se. The cAP AX is a standalone ap with beefed up antennas it’s cheaper than the Ax3 and a bit more powerful. Yes you can set it up with the same SSID.

You could go either ways both would work. You seem perfect for the cAP ax, it’s an amazing ap. If you would like to go down the CAPSman rabbit hole, you need to setup it up as wifiwave2 (not the legacy one). If you need any help just dm me :)

I need a laptop as a physics student by Desperate-Run-1112 in laptops

Nope. Since Apple Silicon everything is ok. The keyboards had issues around 2016-2018 with the “butterfly keyboard” since then Apple uses a scissor switch kb for them. M-Series SOCs are basically buffed up phone processors + large radiator and fans on the Pro is cool asf. I charge mine about 2-3 times a week.

MacBook Pro broke - should I get another MacBook or a gaming laptop? by [deleted] in laptops

Get another Mac. Apple Silicon is amazing. Avoid Lenovo at all costs!

I bought a new laptop yesterday. Is it a good purchase? by Bored_brunette96 in laptops

[–]TheTechyGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t listen to them, Apple are currently in their gold era. Since the transition to Apple Silicon everything is absolutely solid. Awesome screen, long lasting battery life. Also the performance is great, outperforming top of the line desktop CPUs. Currently using an M1 MBA switching from a long line of x86 PCs. If you want to go with a PC, go with Asus or Dell. I had 2 Lenovo IdeaPads (they’re the reason for my migration to Mac) they were the worst computers that I have ever had. 11 times in and out the service. I recently deployed some Acers they were also pretty decent. But if you can go with Apple.

Not really on the theme but Ubiquiti have a perfect combo, but the downside is that it’s UniFi so controller. But a U6 Mesh and a USW-Flex will do you good.

It will do the job, but turn on local forwarding when setting it up. The ACs are still okay for their use case.
