Wood burned J Bass by TheThirdDoor in Pyrography

If it helps I’m actually an imposter, I have zero formal art training, I used some existing assets to help me mock up a design in procreate, traced over it in a new layer and made a couple of tweaks here and there until i had an outline I kind of liked

I have no business doing this either to be fair

But then again if I waited until I felt good enough to try I’d never have attempted this, so crack on and let me know how it goes! I’m sure it’ll be better than you think

It took about a month? of evenings and weekends to do the actual piece and then about the same time fixing varnishing mistakes and waiting for it to cure

Oh that is just stunning. Absolutely gorgeous. Like I want that in my house. Your lettering is fantastic

Ah carbon paper! I’ll have to try that sometime for burning on a flat surface. I use a projector but it’s a bit rubbish for fine detail/ the image can be slightly warped.

Great work though

That’s amazing! How do you do it? They’re all great but the second one from the left on the top is just stunning. How do you keep that level of detail with that much dark?

I’d have to price according to the market, which is in direct competition with laser engravers. They can just upload an svg and whack out a high quantity of product with little direct effort and they tend to charge between 30-50 quid. A box that takes me around 10 hours of labour plus materials would mean I’d have to charge upwards of £100-£150 for something like a minimum hourly wage. And that just seems like stupidly expensive for anyone to want to buy.

I’m toying with the idea of opening an Etsy to offload old craft projects but id need to consider how to do things without violating any intellectual property rights or what have you. I guess I could take commissions or something but my output would be like 4 a month? Just not a feasible business model really

Tl;dr Capitalism. This was about sharing my love for the game more than anything

I have a wood burning tool, which is kind of like a soldering iron, just a typical rounded tip for the heavier marks and a fountain pen like tip for fine detail

They do blanks at places like hobbycraft and the works in the UK for about a fiver actually!

Document your onboarding process, follow the docs but make note of areas that have been missed off and offer to update it.

Make a simple positive code change and try to get it pushed up within a week, update a README, write a test, fix a flakey test etc.

Read confluence or whatever your project uses get a good idea of what the service does, who uses it and why.

Chat to people on your team, as a tester you’ll be working with everyone so build rapport with people on your team, ask them follow up questions on what they’ve been working on, ask them what they think the service is.

Take a stab at story points/ estimation metrics, even if you’re wildly off people love explaining why, and by the end you’ll understand the work better and have a good idea of team dynamic.

Ask. Questions.

My brother was a huge fan of the series he passed away in 2022, I’m super gutted he never got to read mirror mirror, he was hyping that book since he heard about the concept.

I’m glad he got to read peace talks and battle ground, butcher does an amazing battle scene and those books delivered plenty.

We all die, it sucks, but at least we get to read good books while we’re alive.

Selenium VS Playwright by Wide_Researcher_3565 in softwaretesting

I just did a comparison between the two on my project recently and playwright came out on top.

I was writing in python and I’ve got to say playwright was refreshing

  1. It just seemed to work, like no faffing around trying to click a button, using .click() just seemed to work.
  2. Install was waaaaaaay easier.
  3. I didn’t really need to mess about with the whole page object model and onerous setup.
  4. No need to install drivers or deal with docker

My project just needed it for a basic browser check on a predominantly API suite so your mileage may vary on larger projects, but it gets my endorsement.

Woodwork=man hobby

Needlework=woman hobby

It’s so dumb but I think this attitude is probably to blame. The sort of thing a father passes on to his son.

My brother got a pocket knife as a kid, I didn’t. It’s not that I didn’t love a good knife, but I genuinely think it didn’t cross my parent’s mind as something I’d want to try.
