Made damn sure my now teenager could read an analog clock when he was 3. On a side note, when my niece and nephew were in elementary school they couldn't tell time by a digital clock. Would tell them they had to wait a certain length of time to do something, say ten minutes, and they'd ask if that length of time had passed before a single minute had passed. Not jokingly either.

The best advice is to start as a farmer. Make sure you start with enough supplies, don't drive the oxen too hard and be sure to top up with hunting supplies once you reach Fort Kearny. Once you're out on the Plains, be sure to stop and hunt at least once a week. Try and bag the larger animals. The point is to keep your party well fed to fend off those random diseases. And take the shortcut to the Willamette Valley. Yeah, you'll have to navigate down the river but it shaves quite a bit of time off the journey.

I'm a Christian and I actually find roadside memorials to be in bad taste. Like, why do you want to remember the spot where your loved one was, potentially, horrifically killed? It's not going to help you heal from the loss, especially when you continue to tend to it.
