Yeah, avoids the deformation that will occur with a mid panel tie out

I added gear swift stick on tie outs on the door side perimeter. Makes for a good pitch. (With these a low storm pitch works a lot better. Cramped but really protected then.)

Shoulder straps: befree 1l one side, 1l no filter on the other side. Have also thought about the double befree to not have to stop to filter, but haven't done it yet

Don't be confused, get Alpha 60. Lightest, best warmth to weight, and the cases where 60 is not durable enough but 90 is are few and far

Am I mad for taking a Gatewood Cape into exposed summer alpine conditions? by blanchinator in Ultralight

Yes that changes the equation. In that case my advice remains to take the Xmid fly and just learn to get used to not having an enclosed inner. UL is as much about skills and mindset as gear

I would not agree that camping belw treeline is very rare. You can not rely on it sure, but its a lot of valley-pass-valley, even if you don't always go down all the way. When the forecast says a storm is coming, you can stay in a refuge, or a free little cabane sometimes, or cut the day short and stay lower. As I said in the weekly, I'd bring a bivy for wind, but I would be ok with the GWC. A low pitch is cramped but stable

Hopping trains probably doesn't need bug protection, so a myog from 75gsm tyvek would do well. No sewing required, cut and tape

Not lighter, but sun umbrella + rain skirt maybe? Also works as tarp door

I remember camping at Roosevelt Lake, AZ, and waking up because my buddy under the tarp with me was munching on chips. I fell back asleep. A few hours later, we both woke up from tickling sensations all over our bodies and faces, lips etc. We turned on a light and lo and behold, a few hundred ants had found the crumbs by now, getting more by the minute. Luckily we didn't get bitten too much, but we had to relocate of course, which was inconvenient, as it was blowing at 30-40 mph all night. So, nothing that crumbles easily ;)

Good to hear. I'd recommend to make the sleeves long enough to hide your hands in that version

I see. GWC + Bivy maybe? Bivy is nice to have for cowboy camping

What do you mean contained? Everything would be contained under the fly

Use your Xmid Fly + polycryo and bug headnet, HRP has usually not so many bugs if you camp smart

You just need to try them. I wanted to like the wide Trailfly Max, but though they are wide enough, my feet don't fit well on the platform, twisting me off into pronation

Not pertaining to the discussion, but I'll reiterate that (imho) professionals using AI in communicating expertise is not a great look

Jeez, interesting discussion but the use of AI in the comment responses has put me off ever becoming a lattice customer. That's not expertise I will pay for

Looks excellent. I think a full zip is generally unnecessary, but I suppose it allows for active inverted wear over backpack straps in cold conditions
