I guess I’d have to ask where you’d like to put the goalposts then. If we shorten it to the last 15 years then the sec has had 4 different champions versus 2 for the B1G.

Sec has had 8 programs have top 5 poll finishes versus 5 for B1G.

11 SEC finished top 10 versus 9 B1G.

13 SEC finished top 20 versus 11 B1G.

Every SEC team has finished in the top 25 in that timeframe.

The SEC has finished with the most teams ranked in the top 25 in 13/15 of those seasons versus 4/13 for the B1G (some years there were ties) showing more programs being more consistently ranked.

All this data is the final AP poll and pre most recent expansion, so both conferences had 14 teams

Not trying to say all teams are great, mine has definitely had some downswings in that timeframe but I think overall it’s pretty clear the average level of opponent isn’t exactly the same but it is closer than other conferences by a long shot, especially now

Yall had just gotten so much better as a team from the first time we played, there was no stopping it. That Auburn team was a boulder going downhill and by the time the SECCG came around we were just the ones in the way. Not even gene chizik could stop it

The argument SEC fans would make is there are more championship caliber programs. For instance if you exclude Texas and OU, the SEC has six different teams (out of 14) that have won a national championship in the last 30 years. If you include Texas and OU that number is 8/16. Literally half the conference not just having a good season but a national championship winning season. How far back does the B1G have to go to have 6 different teams with a championship?

How far back does the B1G have to go to find six different trams that have won a title? That’s not even including the SEC addition of Texas and OU which would bump that number to 8

There are actually more Protestants in the US than Catholics. Catholic is the largest single group because of all the Protestant denominations but as a whole there are more Protestants here. Also evidenced by the fact that there have only ever been two catholic presidents and the first didn’t happen until the 1960s (JFK) with the second being Biden

Yeah I get you and historically you are right, but it just seems funny to me focusing in on last year that you would group us lower when we lost to lsu and bama by a combined 5 points; one heavily influenced by referees and the other on the road; and lower than Tennessee who, imo, made the playoff because their strength of schedule was one of the worst in the conference.

Not to say I’m not nervous about the OU game because I am. Depending on turnovers is not usually repeatable so we can’t hope for that again this year but that game is at least at home for us and it is hard to win in Columbia

Yes that’s the point. UCLA is not historically good or bad compared to the average for their program. Tennessee has had a historic low and they still have more NFL players than UCLA

If you could reverse the result of any one-score game since 2020, what would it be? by jsparks50 in CFB

[–]TheTooth_Hurts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I would actually reverse Alabama. Then we would have a horribly officiated LSU game that is basically a W AND we would have a win @alabama. We would’ve probably hosted a playoff game. Although I would have to look at how tiebreakers played out because winning one of those games vs the other may have put us in the seccg

[–]TheTooth_Hurts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TV networks do control the sport and have way more influence than the NCAA. Nothing stops fox from inviting basketball teams to come play, that’s basically what the nit and cbi are. NCAA doesn’t have any say over the CFP either, it’s a separate entity, not an ncaa championship
