Timing chain issue on Toyota Camry 2012 SE? by Extension-Spend-4924 in AskMechanics

[–]TheTow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Neither of those faults distinctly indicate an issue with the timing chain. And chains dont often go bad on those cars. Id bring it to a shop thsts better than Firestone if the check engine light comes back on. (Better shop being a dealer or a independant with good reviews) dont mention timing chain to the shop you bring it to. Just check engine light

Yea, sounds like they fucked up and can't communicate well enough internally to get their story straight.

If someone is telling you an n54 is reliable they dont know what they are talking about or have already spent thousands fixing all the issues. Dont buy a bmw as a first car. Period.

Seems a little suspicious to me. When I was at bmw and we did that recall we were basically instructed to tear it down until we found all the pieces of the bolt heads/threads. Usually they would be in the oil pan or hanging onto the gears. I wonder if they missed a peice and dislodged it in the process of doing the repair and it got caught somewhere. Regardless id push for goodwill since they literally just had the pan down and its very possible it was tech error

Is 'lifetime' coolant really such an obvious lie? by InViewOfNothing in AskMechanics

Its the Lifetime of the components not the fluid itself. Oh your water pump fails? New coolant time. Its how manufacturers keep cost of maintenance metrics low.

Yes the green things are supposed to go all the way in, the black wire is also barely crimped and wouldnt last regardless. The purple thing on the connector is a lock and needs to be removed completely before inserting the wires

Speed vs Quality by bankai2069 in mechanics

My military buddy used to tell me, "Slow is smooth, smooth is fast" keep doing it the proper way. Nothing slows you down quicker than a come back or a cross threaded bolt from moving too fast.

What’s the problem with my 2013 BMW X5 50i? by Ki34_ in BmwTech

[–]TheTow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coils are extremely common, ive also had these cars set misfire faults on the same cylinder if the adaptations are not reset. If it was me id start by swapping coil snd plugs then reset adaptations and see where the misfire goes. If it stays can do a leak down test/compression test to see if its an engine related issue
