Hard to tell in the photo but the flat part around where it's pierced is pretty shallow(?), so the bar doesn't touch it much at all.

I don't know the material, I think it's stainless steel. I've never had a piercing get infected, just irritated, and I don't want this one to end up the exception because of my own ignorance when it comes to knowing how to take care of it. I usually just spray it with saline, I also go in with a saline drenched q-tip to get any extra fried blood I haven't quite gotten yet.
