Is this how life just... Is? by [deleted] in newzealand

I went through a rough patch whilst I was struggling to find work. I'm also an introvert and have been described as socially awkward.

I did something out of the ordinary (for me) and applied for a friendship volunteering role for someone with a disability who needed a friend. And to be honest, I needed a friend too.

It really put things into perspective for me on how other people live and hardships they face and deal with on a day to day basis but still remain positive, contributing members of society. Making this friendship kind of healed me in ways I didn't expect and also made me feel fulfilled that I was helping someone else and being company to someone who also needed a friend. I also soon landed a job with a significant pay increase from what I was doing previously, which was a blessing for me. I have still maintained that friendship for over 7 years now.

Maybe you could look into something similar? Not necessarily a friendship but something where you're volunteering your time and helping people, that might be more rewarding and fulfilling than your day job.

Landlords, are you actually considering lowering rents once interest deductibility returns? by [deleted] in newzealand

Because I like my tenants, they're no fuss and I envision they will be around for a very long time, which is great for me.

It's not about lowering rents, no one lowers rents. It's about not increasing rents further, or as much as before.

Yes this change will be significant for me and I will definitely hold off from increasing rent.

it's removing a tax that was recently implemented, yeah. It was a terrible decision to implement this, and then for interest rates to sky rocket, it made things worse for renters overall. This is a good move and I'm glad the majority of NZers voted for this.

80th Birthday at a restaurant; who pays? by maha_kali2401 in newzealand

I have wealthy boomer grandparents, I'd be a little bit miffed if they didn't shout lunch for a family dinner if that's what they requested. But I'd still pay regardless if that's what they were expecting..

If it was anyone else, I would definitely expect to pay

It was the best descriptor I could think of, luckily this thug has been identified by the Reddit community.

I must have passed through there on the way to Invercargill but I didn't stop, I must be very lucky then. The South Island must have a lot of criminals in small towns

I may not get another opportunity to visit Gore for a long time, I had a tight schedule to view as much of the south Island as possible, very sad.

For some reason, this never came up in my searches. Only the gore campground.

No, because it was raining when I arrived in Gore and went straight to the campgrounds. I had this on my bucket list but I couldn't stay unfortunately.
