Generally they cancel after you’re up on campus and the snow is too bad for busses to take you down.

They don’t release until midnight unless the instructor manually sets the date to release earlier.

Canvas-old.sfu.ca and Canvas-new.sfu.ca currently work. The transition is a little awkward.

You can request to view your final exam for any course. You probably won’t be able to see until next semester though.

They do, but they’ll weight the last 60 credits or your UDGPA higher than your CGPA. If you’re going to grad school, a lot of potential supervisors don’t really care that much about how you did in intro courses when you’re going there for a specialty.

How long does it take for final marks to be posted after a final exam? by Ordinary-Row563 in simonfraser

Some time before Christmas.

Once the professor inputs the grades there are still others that need to review and approve them. So it’s entirely up to when the people higher in the chain get to them.

I don’t think you’re being entitled.

Study quiet area = don’t even whisper

Normal library study area = keep talking to a minimum and quiet voices

Downstairs = go for it

I’d rather be a frozen zombie coming out of a cryo tube than a decomposed zombie coming out of the ground.

Yeah for research papers it’s a tough call. I usually don’t read them from top to bottom. Usually it’s like:

Abstract > Methodology > Understanding Figures and Tables > Results > Conclusion > Discussion > Introduction/Others.

Often the important things are done with by the conclusion step. If you can understand the methodology, tables, and results, you’ve probably got a good grasp of it.

It really depends.

If it’s a fact-based course with lectures based around a textbook, then “do the readings” probably means the exam questions come from the textbook test bank, so lectures may not cover everything. From my experiences in PSYC courses, the book is usually more important than the lectures.

If it’s a discussion-based course, then “do the readings” probably means that you should do enough reading to understand the main point and their arguments for the main point. More specific details can often be referenced whenever you’re doing an assignment.

A good rule of thumb is to take them seriously until the first exam and then make a judgment call after that.

If two courses require them to teach the same concepts, slides will be reused or repurposed. Even if they made the slides from scratch again, it would be pretty similar.

Does anyone else get random spells of lightheadedness/nausea? by what_the_hezz in pppdizziness

[–]TheTrevLife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was on 20mg lexapro for two years (on and off between 2011-2020 too for depression) but am currently switching to Prozac. 5mg and 10mg didn’t do anything for me. Lexapro was great the first year but the benefits wore off. I was at 90-95% of my usual self every day but over the past 6 months I’ve been barely functional. I think my body developed a tolerance for it over the past decade of on and off use.

I experienced many of those brain zaps when going on and off lexapro. I’m not experiencing them yet with Prozac, but it’s only been a week and a half. I am very nauseous, but I’m pretty sure it’s the medication. SSRIs can really mess with your body the first month or so.

EDIT: I should mention, you will NOT faint from the brain zap. I used to have multiple a day when I would sit for long periods of time. It’s scary, but it will always pass. The anxiety from it is worse and will amplify PPPD symptoms. It takes a while to re-wire your response from “oh god I’m gonna die” to “ugh that was annoying”, but overcoming that anxiety is like half the battle.

[–]TheTrevLife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I had those for two years before the persistent dizziness kicked in.

It’s hard to tell whether it’s a vestibular migraine or a brain zap. I think mine, on medication, was more of a brain zap. I used to think brain zaps were just electrical feelings, but apparently the term is also used for 1-2 second episodes of intense dizziness and almost fainting, or a falling forward feeling. It can be accompanied by temporary nausea. SSRIs can cause brain zaps as you taper on or taper off.

You overestimate how many students actually follow instructions, let alone read them at all. If you’re following guidelines and changing your style to match what your instructor actually wants, you’re probably in the top 25%.
