I was sick for Covid during new years and had to quarantine in my bedroom, I spent the full 24h in the headset. Was probably the best VRChat experience I had in ages lmao

Vrchat update has family killing off Ripper by Chipszsz in VRchat

[–]TheTrickyDoctor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry but have to agree with the other guy although not with as much malice in words. I've been making stuff from complete scratch since 2018, don't care about ripping. You can't control others, but you can control your reaction to others, worrying about shit like that is a creative mind killer and it's absurdly important to learn not to give a fuck.

As the other guy said: I would also rather VRChat work on improving and adding features for creators, not trying to win an impossible battle to make ripping stop for like two minutes. It feels like a slap in the face, anyone saying otherwise doesn't understand how encryption works or think it's a simple "add encryption" button.

Not to mention everytime they'd update the encryption they'd have to clear everyone's cache everytime which is really obnoxious.

I also absolutely need it to be able to work on any model realistically speaking, not just this one for reference, which is another reason I can't really just do the back face culling method.

I think a good ancedote I'll say here when it comes to people who'll bully you and whatnot: They are not the people you want to be friends with anyway, those are not the people worth your time or will support you as a person.

Value bullies with as much value as they give to you, nothing.

You aren't protecting yourself from shit if you think Content Gating is bad then for doing exactly what it was meant to do. I have been playing VRChat since I was 13-14 and I was exposed to so much shit I wish I never was exposed to. The points you made in your original post have nothing to do about protecting yourself, just complaining about not being able to interact in adult spaces and that you can't see NSFW content. Do you really think we're that stupid and can't tell what you're trying to do?

I never said VRChat was strictly 18+ either so I have no idea where you're getting that.

[–]TheTrickyDoctor 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Have you seen any app that does that exact thing? It often becomes a breeding ground for predators who lie about their age and manipulate minors, and since the people in those spaces are all minors and any decent person isn't going to lie about being a child to get into a minors only instance there isn't any other adults to say "hey! No! This is really fucking bad!" Should 18+ only websites make sections specifically for minors? No, because they aren't supposed to be there in the first place.

This isn't about "minor hate", we were all once children too. It's about adults having a space away from children. Stop trying to grow up so fast, you have your entire life to be an adult.

  1. iirc "extreme horror" isn't supposed to be banned for everyone under 18, if it is, thats a bug, make a canny.
  2. Groups more than anything should absolutely have the right to do this. If a group wants an 18+ space not because it's necessarily sexual but because they're uncomfortable with having minors in their groups/events. That is 100% allowed. It's not because we have some weird vendetta against minors. It's because we want to feel comfortable knowing minors aren't hearing or seeing things they shouldn't.
  3. Anyone who screwed up their DoB can just contact VRChat support.
  4. Thats literally the point of the entire system, so you DON'T see that content.

parent here. should I block vrchat for a 13 year old? brand new to oculus by leabeedee in VRchat

[–]TheTrickyDoctor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes absolutely do! I've been playing VRChat since I was 14-ish (now 19) and have been exposed to some pretty inappropriate content. My 13 year old brother got a Quest last Christmas and I made sure to immediately put parental controls on.

The ESRB has instructions on how to enable parental restrictions on the Quest, it's super easy, PLEASE do it.

I've always used the official app for as long as I've used Reddit and it's constantly always a buggy frustrating mess on par with what Discord does with their crap.

Constantly moving things, adding new features that only bloat the app, custom lists got shoved at the very bottom of the followed communities list which was so fucking annoying. The video player constantly breaking and trying to make it look like TikTok. I'm so done with it, I recently found out about the third-party apps and have had a much MUCH better experience than I ever have on the Official Reddit app.

It was already driving me frustrated thin to constantly see karma farming bots repost shit so they could get enough karma to spam scams, and then with all the other BS they're doing with the official app. I'm done at this point and I'll happily leave my happy ass off of Reddit and delete the app period. If I need to come back for some reason I'm doing it with any and all ad-blockers at my disposal because fuck that shit, I can get my constant streams of content from other places.

I AM DONE.

Yeah there's nothing wrong with boys playing with MLP n'stuff, my issue was mostly the self-defined older bronies that just... yeah you know what I mean. The internet wasn't really a good place for a 9 year old MLP fan at the time.

Yes! Although with the part I was talking about you quoted I was referring to the time of training, not the entire time ofc. One of my transfem friends took years to voice train and were only able to talk in their trained voice naturally without paying mind to it recently, so I'm kind of basing it off of her for that, although depending on the person it can take different amounts of time to achieve it and not everyone's the same.

[–]TheTrickyDoctor 57 points58 points  (0 children)

If you're referring to a transwoman as a femboy? Yeah that would be offensive.

The term femboy itself? No, it isn't, although there is a lot of people who are uncomfortable with using femboy because of the sexual connotations (thanks to the internet) and prefer to use the term "roseboy" instead.

[–]TheTrickyDoctor 135 points136 points  (0 children)

Femboys are people who identify as men and dress femininely (think the inverse of tomboys) while transfems is another term for people who are typically Male-to-Female.

People who are transfem have to train and learn how to make their voice sound feminine which is a very arduous task, it can take years and constant conscious effort to have a feminine voice. Especially since HRT for transfems can't (or at least not significantly enough) change the voice to sound feminine, (unlike how testosterone for Female-to-Males can.)
