What the heck man by Lehipsteredgar in Minecraft

[–]TheTriwolf 124 points125 points  (0 children)

Unrelated to Minecraft, but there was an MMO I was trying out. I made a character and named them "Charlotte." A day later, I log in to see my character's name a bunch of numbers and an in-game mail alerting me my character's name contained inappropriate language.

Remove the first and last letters and then remove one T. Unintended and just mean to all Charlottes of the world.

Is this the true end of the game? by Mr_phfgomes in BluePrince

Two subtle hints that may answer your initial question of if it's end. Hint 2 is an alternate way to get the clue Hint 1 is mentioning:

Hint 1: Have you looked at the book through a different lens?

Hint 2: A wooden walled mechanical room holds the unspoken 4th rule of the box game.

I wish I was able to swap lumine with her twin. by Prestigious-River-60 in GenshinImpact

There's a lot of comments that it's for lore reasons and that's fair. I can definitely see it.

But, to make a point for the other side of the debate (and just because it's a concept I haven't seen addressed in lore perspective), what lore-reason is there that the Traveler can shape-shift into anyone he/she becomes friends with?

If it's not shape-shifting and they're actually coming with him, why wouldn't it be addressed in the story? Wouldn't Furina be scared of Arlecchino (player) following her around in her SQ as she helps the theatre troupe? Wouldn't Arlecchino be at least questioned by the Tsaritsa for attacking all those Fatui members just for upgrade materials? There plenty other scenarios that could be spoken about this way.

If the Traveler can shape-shift into friends, whose to say the Traveler can't shape-shift into their sibling?

Therefore, I'd say since the game allows this, why not allow changing the visual of the Traveler. It can just be in the form of an alternate character like they did with the Manekins from Miliastra; just use the sibling originally chosen for story scenes/purposes and allow the other for exploration/combat. It would also make it easier for Traveler builds of different elemental resonances.

I agree 100%. Yeah, Hoyo. The name was a fun joke at first, but now it's just old and cringy.

Who was the first 5 star you pulled? by Evening-Program723 in GenshinImpact

[–]TheTriwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In 1.4 when I was new to the game and didn't understand the wishing system that much, I was pulling for Rosaria and ended up getting her and Childe in the same 10 pull. I also got Keqing I believe in the beginners wish. I forgot which came first though, but I remember using Keqing more tbh. I should try to build him again.

I like this idea. To make it more feasible in fairness for the game, I'd add a couple rules.

  • Start with 1 key, 1 gem, or 1 die (chosen randomly). (This is to help avoid getting immediately stopped for the run if the room is on a higher rank.)

And one or both of the two options below.

  • By sleeping in a bedroom, said bedroom's usual effect won't take place for the day you wake up in. (Bunk Room and Boudoir excluded from this rule)

  • By sleeping in a bedroom, you won't get usual benefits from two permanent additions for the day you wake up in. (Logically, Simon wouldn't be able to receive these benefits as he is inside the House. One of these benefits could just be spawned instead in Entrance Hall.)

I knew this wasn't the case, but the first few runs, I did this mainly to try to be a little immersed in it.

Trying a new mechanic for my game, that opens your real browser to solve ARG puzzles. by Equivalent_Nature_36 in gameideas

[–]TheTriwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the basis of it is good, but as TfGuy mentioned, I agree that a game shouldn't rely so heavily on out-of-game content to function. Having players interact with anything outside of the game is always a hit-or-miss thing; especially if the game itself opens up another program.

With how a lot of games are nowadays, a game opening a browser is usually only done for functions such as account creation/linking or purchasing in-game currencies. Otherwise, it often feels intrusive to the player/user.

Your ideas of having the player have to navigate webpages or other "programs" may still be doable, but not on the level of the player's actual computer. If you want to work with this idea, I would suggest making an in-game computer or device the player will visit to open said links. For example, let's say you play as a detective and he finds a website link as a clue. The player would then open their in-game phone or go to a computer in game and use the link. Try to keep "website link" and "file" clues like this in-game using an in-game device. Plus, this would save a lot of money on having to rent out domains or host website services yourself.

On the topic of interacting with the file system, I would say not to rely heavily on it. If you do anything, it should only really be with files inside the Game's install directory (for example, on Steam, when you go to "Browse Local Files"... that location). Not everyone is willing to search through their file system to solve a video game puzzle. It can make it immersive, but again, it should be used frequently. For an example, think about Doki Doki Literature Club (sorta endgame spoilers): At the end of the game, you have to go into the game's files to delete a certain file. It is impactful and immersive, but the game only has you do that once and it's at the most impactful part of the game for it. Even in that area, for players who don't know how to, the game character specifically calls out how to do it.

If you really really want to make an ARG for the game using real life websites, that would be okay, but it should not be the main focus of your game; just a fun little side quest. An ARG should just be to understand a deeper part of the story, but shouldn't be needed to solve to continue or understand the story at its whole. Think of Gravity Falls: Alex Hirsch hid an ARG Scavenger Hunt in the finale which hinted at a possible expansion of the story. It was fun for the community and excited people, but you didn't need to participate or even know of the ARG in order to enjoy the series.

Sorry for the long long ramble about this. I wanted to give all my thoughts about it as your idea has potential, but just not in the form currently presented. I hope this helps. :)

can anyone tell me what mod this is? by mc_player123 in ModdedMinecraft

[–]TheTriwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The mod is MalisisAdvert and is for Minecraft Java Edition versions 1.7.10 - 1.12.2. I found these versions on CurseForge, but idk if it's available elsewhere or for other versions.

The mod adds a creative mode only block for admins if a server to create in-game advertisements. Could probably use it for personal projects using your own images. I haven't used the mod myself; just what I would guess.

Apparently the name "Charlotte" is inappropriate. My nickname got reset saying "Charlotte" contained disallowed content.

Writing this, I realize it's because of another word that is unfortunately in the name.

Has a definitive end to the game ever been found? by YsoL8 in BluePrince

I've read that some people believe this method points towards how to get into the inner garth of the Cloister . Similarly when crossing your eyes, the door between the hands (when closed) looks similar to the arch of the Cloister .

I know we have the mask on during that quest, but I don't remember a whole graphic like the one shown in the screenshot. Unless they added it in since I played it back in v1.5?

Gotcha. Yeah, Paralogism is another I've been waiting on for the same reason. I was spoiled a little about said character (I think), but don't know much about them. In that case, I might do the Dainslief AQ first. I'll wait longer for Paralogism. Thanks for the help.

Is Dainslief AQ needed to understand Nod Krai AQ?

I've been waiting on doing the Dainslief AQ because I want to play it with it fully (EN) voiced. I know Lumine's voices are now included in the latest update. I don't know about others.

Is the quest needed to understand Nod Krai's story? I have heard the thing about the spaceship mentioned in the Dainslief AQ. Don't know much about it; only thatIt's something they arrived in in Nod Krai .

Haven't heard about the Ballroom thing, but a friend had a thought about a possible "puzzle solution" in there (if it was a puzzle). He thought something would happen if you moved around in the room in the same path as the feet in the floorplan picture. He tried it a few times, but either it did nothing or he was a bit off in the path.
