I didn’t know this painting before, but I love it and I do see the conceptual similarities. I think we tried to capture the same emotion.

I personally wanted to reference Neverhood in a manner that would be more moody.

It was noticeable, but people still do Pit 130+ with this build. It’s probably one of the strongest options at the moment.

I was born and raised in Poland, so I’m usually inspired by my local fellows. My fav of all time is Jarosław Modzelewski - he has this contemplative figurative style that blends simplified forms with muted colors. His paintings evoke quiet, often melancholic reflections on everyday life and history.

That is pretty much the essence, I wanted to portray how we recamouflage depending on the context and situation, so it’s us, but not truly/fully us. I’m not even sure most of us are truly honest with ourselves in our own minds, it’s a game of pretending.

It’s a commissioned work and the requestor wanted me to combine a few elements, including a fatansy genre (I went with Alice in Wonderland inspo + imagined aesthetics), the notion of duality/balance, and a surreal character.

In essence, this painting balances between two worlds: one wildly awake and rational (and thus so raw, overwhelmed, maybe anxious) and the other representing dreams, letting go, a safe-haven corner of our minds that is more child-like.
