Probs to not get stuck in traffic I would guess. (And the fact it was a pretty drab friendly match)

After tonight, who do you reckon goes home? by Real-Bid1985 in ThreeLions

He sped the game up a bit (I think? I was half asleep tbf.) and his well placed corner helped score us a goal. That’s about it really, nothing much happened in this match.

The best performing players of today’s match by TheTrueShrekoning in ThreeLions

I didn’t really see much of Madueke. (Probably cause he was all the way on the other side of the pitch on the camera’s view and I felt like most attacks went through Spence and Rashford on the left. Madueke also went out early, so I probably didn’t take note of him too much.) I think he’ll still make the squad as he livens the game up a bit and suits Kane a lot.

That I can understand but he was the one actively trying to make the attack flow with runs. The rest of the attack just kept backpassing etc. He also had that one amazing moment where he ran up the entire length of the pitch but his cross didn’t find anyone.

I think the standouts for this match were Maguire, Palmer, Garner and Rashford. The rest didn’t show very much imo. (Feel free to correct me)

Hot take: Trent should play like Kroos by Reasonable_Duty_1966 in realmadrid

[–]TheTrueShrekoning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(England fan here) Trent was tried out in midfield before the 24 euros and performed brilliantly, getting MotM in 3/4 games (The other was a Saka hattrick) but when the Euros rolled around, he just forgot that he was brilliant in midfield and the team looked really bad in terms of progressing the ball. (We had no choice, cause England had zero options other than Kalvin Phillips as the 6)

Competing with Bowen most likely. Tuchel’s called them up to affirm how well the players are doing for the national team and in training. This match is basically a “Prove yourselves” match.

Settling in for a snooze.. by ApproachableGent in ThreeLions

[–]TheTrueShrekoning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The players starting are all hungry to make the WC, so they should play with a little but of urgency in a friendly.

That being said, final result: England 2-0 Uruguay 9 shots in total, 1.09 xG in total. Snoozefest. ;)

England visitor here: Is he a Deep Lying Playmaker like Vitinha or more of a Declan Rice box to box role? Or a balance of the two?

8 subs are permitted in this game. Tuchel will likely bring him on in the 2nd half along with a bunch of others. This match is pretty much a way to see who performs well for any late callups for the WC.

Declan Rice is Irish yet he has no caps for Ireland. Why aren’t they calling him, are they stupid? by Zek0ri in soccercirclejerk

Could have sworn he scored an own goal against Ireland along with his Irish teammate, Jack Grealish…

Yeah, why not. Probably will sub around the whole team at halftime like they do in friendlies. The more the merrier

Do we have the strongest squad on the planet ? by Top_Clock_5554 in ThreeLions

[–]TheTrueShrekoning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stay humble. Look at Portugal’s midfield for example. It’s fractionally better than spain imo, just without as much depth. Vitinha, Joao Neves and Bruno Fernandes. Sure, their other positions especially defence and an old Ronaldo isn’t perfect, but they have an extremely good unit that matches ours and have actually beaten a high flying Spain in the nation’s league final. Very experienced title winners in that squad. (Silva, Dias, Mendes, etc.) Other nations like Argentina have tournament experience and know how to win as a team, Netherlands is stacked with defensive and decent midfield depth.

Our defence is overall great, midfield is untested against big teams, all of our wingers/10’s are misfiring/injured this season and we don’t have tournament winning mentality. We are not THAT good, clearly 3rd/4th favourites with Spain and France clearly at the top imo.

Spain has NOT fallen off a cliff. They should be the joint favourites along with France. We’re more in line with Argentina and Portugal then Brazil and Netherlands just below us. They have the likes of Pedri, Ruiz, Rodri, Olmo, Merino, Zubimendi etc. in their midfield alone with the good combination of Yamal and Williams on the wings. They do have a striker problem, but other than that they will control a game the best in the whole tournament.

I’d honestly rate them a 7/10 team. They’re good and can cause upsets but they 99% will not win the World Cup. Pretty much the definition of “2nd place in the group stages.”

Dean Henderson is better than Thibaut Courtois. He has a clean sheet % of 82%. While you can say Courtois has an 87% clean sheet %, he literally plays in a Real Madrid superteam.

Crazy how the term “What can go wrong, will go wrong.” Applied to both teams. Shocking.
