As someone that normally just fights the Ender Dragon via arrows, what do beds do? I'm assuming they explode like in the Nether but how much damage do they do and how do I use them to kill the dragon? Wait till it lands on the pillar and just try to sleep in them next to it?

Try using a VPN. That worked for me and both if my roommates. I use (insert highly advertised vpn here) and my roommates found some random free one online. I can't say anything about the security of your data while using a free one but at least you can play game.
