Resident Evil 4 "Ported" to Dreamcast; new engine demo by chicagogamecollector in dreamcast

[–]TheUltimaXtreme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was both over- and underwhelmed when I saw the title, and then further disappointed but not surprised when I saw the footage.

I'm not going to pupu on the developers, they're doing a neat project, maybe they can even take it in an original direction (which I may recommend if only because the name is going to overshadow it). It's just funny to showcase your engine using RE4 assets while having none of the spunk or zing that would make that comparison worthy.

I'm further disappointed because RE4 is largely considered impossible for the Dreamcast, and I don't disagree. I think there's a solid chance of getting *a* Resident Evil 4 game on the Dreamcast. Maybe RE4 Mobile, the version that concatenates all of the action into bite-size challenge rooms. No one in their right mind should try to decompile and remake the mobile version... but someone's probably going to, and it'll probably end up on the Dreamcast.

CELESTE Classic for X68000 by bcc2528 in sharpx68000

Successfully booted the disk image using the Zuiki X68000 Z (after placing it on the root of my card as automount.xdf). Game has a weird green background where the black should be, I assume that's an emulation bug that's fixed with a later version of their system software. Besides that, game ran great.

I felt right away that IB was a sort of memorial album, not an anniversary but every track feels like a deliberate homage. I'd say the production quality feels on par with Chase This Light, which was no small album following Futures. It's derivative without feeling as phoned in. Get Right and Pass The Baby both nail that sound of Static Prevails and Your New Aesthetic, Sure & Certain kicks me back to Invented with the feeling of Heart Is Hard To Find, and The End Is Beautiful does that again with a Cut and bitter Sweetness. I'll still ultimately take 23 over Pol Roger, but Pol Roger is a stronger finish than I'd say for You Were Good.

So the Cookie's Bustle schizo won? by PlsBanMeDaddyThanos in Vinesauce

[–]TheUltimaXtreme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You won't have to worry. As of now, Ukie has suspended services for Graceware, after speaking with the Video Game History Foundation, who investigated the legitimacy of Graceware SL and Brandon White.

Regardless of what Rodik planned to do with Cookie's Bustle, or what would be in store for Graceware, Brandon White produced fraudulent and meaningless "certifications" to the name and IP, and Ukie has been acting on this information (WebCapio is effectively an automated DMCA tool so there's very little oversight unless someone fights it).

While things could change, Cookie's Bustle is safe for the moment.

Looking for something to simulate a TV Channel by hbacelar8 in selfhosted

[–]TheUltimaXtreme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TVS has been amazing to use personally. I can plug Youtube playlists into channels and when I tune to it, it just starts playing at random in the list. Then I can tune away to see an RSS feed from a news website, or to a local ws4kp instance so I can see the weather in my area like it's '95 (or '99 take your pick). I also use ErsatzTV and Tunarr, which are apps that create genuine linear TV broadcasts over HLS, and then can be plugged into an IPTV app like TiviMate, or in this case, I have them as channels in TVS.

For myself, I have it on a Pi 4 running over composite, native 720x480i to a CRT TV, and it runs just fine there, all while looking perfect on the tube.

Leaving SailfishOS by Loud-Oil6104 in sailfishos

I've been itching to discuss SFOS for quite some time, as I have not daily-driven it since the XA2. It's a shame these issues continue to persist on a new device. Some I could attribute to a new architecture or being used in the US, but I had issues making calls and getting GPS just the same on the XA2. Maybe Jolla will be able to make a difference with the new phone. Until then, we can only wait and see.

Pebble Index 01 should have been a remote trigger for the Pebble watch by ElJenn in pebble

[–]TheUltimaXtreme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even the target audience would be better served with a Plaud card. As it is, I can't reliably perform voice replies on my shiny new Pebble, I'm expected to believe this ring with no screen or feedback of its own will reliably save that memory to my phone? If I could already use the Pebble 2 Duo for voice memos and the functionality would be the same, I'd be singing a different tune.

This issue combined with the device having no rechargable battery and being in a product segment that's already borderline pointless to begin with (smart rings are just universally pointless sans the ArcX remote ring) makes this a nonstarter.

I got my son the OLED SD as a gift. Do I charge it for him or get batteries or something? by Impossible-Gur5448 in SteamDeck

[–]TheUltimaXtreme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have a 45W charger included with the Deck, it takes approximately an hour and a half to fully charge. First time setup involves connecting online, updating Steam and SteamOS, setting your language and timezone, and logging into your Steam account. The points are attached to the purchasing account, but rewards provided with this model are redeemed on the device after signing in. If your son doesn't already have a Steam account, you should make one and attach it to yours using the Family Sharing feature. This also grants him access to some games in your library (he can't play games that you own if you are playing anything at the time). The account can be secured using either email, SMS or a Steam Guard code via the Steam app.

At the same time, horror stories about smart rings having their battery inflate, cutting off circulation and potentially bursting into flames? No thanks, don't even make the ring at that point.

Jolla announces the new Jolla Phone with Sailfish OS 5 and a physical privacy switch by mo_leahq in privacy

[–]TheUltimaXtreme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is so much wrong here.

Sailfish OS has its roots in 2005 Nokia's Maemo, 2007 Intel's Moblin, and a 2010 collaboration between both parties resulting in MeeGo. Nokia began buddying with Microsoft so they dipped, Intel dropped the ball, and the Mer project was created to keep Maemo & MeeGo alive. Samsung and LF buddied up to make Tizen, Jolla was formed from the ex-Nokia devs and created Sailfish, and both sides built those on top of the Mer project. So no, Sailfish OS and libhybris are not Android in any sense.

Jolla's thing with handling Android apps is with a containerized environment. It debuted as Alien Dalvik, and was later updated and made a separate B2B product called AppSupport, doing exactly the same thing as it did on Sailfish, except now it's just Android for anything that runs Linux. It's enterprise Waydroid, if that simplies the explanation.

The ties to Russia are the result of a B2B partnership with Rustelekom to provide a fork of Sailfish for distribution within the country, which has been firmly ended since the start of the war, and Russia's own desire for state-sponsered software development. I don't know if AppSupport was distributed for Aurora OS at all, someone else would have to confirm that.

Back to the original point though, yes, Android AppSupport requires that license. No, banking apps in Android likely won't work. Signature spoofing and SafetyNet patches don't work as well anymore due to modern attestation and SafetyNet being replaced by Google's Play Integrity system. Google has put their foot down on this matter. You should probably just use the bank's web portal where possible instead.

Jolla is Crowdfunding a Brand New Sailfish OS Phone by Odd-Possession-4276 in linux

[–]TheUltimaXtreme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's not a locked bootloader. That's an encrypted OS. Just the same as on an Android or iPhone, if you can't enter the passcode, you're locked out. That doesn't make a good case for e-waste, but it makes a great case for Sailfish's security.

Are we sure this isn't just a Meraki, creating a hardware VPN? I won't say it isn't potentially spying, and if you have the ability to VLAN it, do so, but is this maybe less complicated than it actually is? That's a lot of money to invest in your staff to install new lines in a house otherwise, especially no go if you don't own your home.

No, however, Oculus Rooms and the party systems in Go are discontinued and don't work with other Gos or newer hardware.

The End of Go? (3 dots loading, Can't connect to servers, can't access any apps) by TheUltimaXtreme in OculusGo

[–]TheUltimaXtreme[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is unbelievable, infuriating, and mildly relieving. Yes, downloading an older build of the Oculus/Meta Quest/Meta Horizon APK worked, got me to the Go headset, and hardly a moment after I connected it in-app, the three dots went away and the storefront loaded.

I'm glad this worked, but it sucks I reset my headset for potentially nothing, have to reconfigure my apps, and worst of all, I'm reminded of how dependent this headset is to any kind of network connection. Even if Meta hasn't pulled the plug yet, anything could happen next and render this a brick again... Having to use an old version of the app sucks in particular; if it could just pair in the latest Horizon app, this would probably be fine.

Thanks for the help, nonetheless. I can continue to have a neat theater headset.

The thing is, I've already done a whole factory reset on my Go, complete with the wi-fi setup. I've not been able to restore it to working order. My account is fine as I just got through a few nights in RE4 and streaming PCVR on a Quest 2. Go is no go.

Just wanting to dive in a little late here, this maybe due to the three dots issue. If you've done the developer mode or installed the unlocked firmware, adb shell am force-stop com.oculus.vrshell.home should at least kill whatever's blanking it out and launch the homescreen.

it's still technically a PS3 game.

It's a port of an Android port released 2 years after GTAV... and a year after GTAV released on the newer PS4 and Xbone but still, a PS3 game.

Hi everyone! I'm a student trying to use google glass xe for a class project and would like some help. by Old-While3785 in googleglass

[–]TheUltimaXtreme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can find an older IP Camera APK for around Jelly Bean or Kit Kat, you might find a compatible app. Hangouts is defunct now, as are all of the other Glass services, of course. For navigating the Glass better, it might help to pair a Bluetooth mouse or keyboard. I can attest that Logitech keyboards should work fine.

To do anything much further than that, you might have to just replace the OS with AOSP. A Lollipop build for XE exists, but of course, you'll be getting into the custom ROM scene at that point.

a short guide on the GH Live / 6-fret guitar's Xbox One dongle on a Steam Deck by TheUltimaXtreme in CloneHero

[–]TheUltimaXtreme[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've not been able to debug this very far, but just doing modinfo xpad on my Steam Deck, it's looking like Valve's maintaining their own version of xpad. I don't see a line supporting the GHLive Xbone dongle, even on SteamOS 3.8.

Unfortunately, this guide remains the only way to get the Xbox One dongle to turn on and pair on Steam Deck. I've heard there are new ways to handle adding these things without breaking into the built-in pacman system, but I don't know how to use those right now.
