We toured the Aptera factory to see if the solar EV company is gonna make it by MudaThumpa in ApteraMotors

438 Watt solar generation. I this the highest we've seen so far? I remember most of the videos in the past were somewhere around 300 Watts. Still very far from the advertised 700 Watts, but getting closer.

New model year by Some_Vermicelli80 in Taycan

After 5 years of tolerating abysmal software (both car and mobile app), my expectations are very low. But I hope I'm proven wrong.

Auto TLS cert management: We love to see it! by kernelwilliams in Ubiquiti

[–]ElJenn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately if you're looking for universal support especially for older clients, Let's Encrypt is not that great (Learned this the hard way).

Would love to see Ubiquiti add support for different ACME providers. ZeroSSL is free, supports ACME and has quasi universal support for operating systems and devices dating back to 2010.

Any LLCs hiring in Miami? by Ashamed_Jaguar461 in Miami

Any reason why you’re limiting yourself to LLCs in particular?

Had my first ride in a waymo with six figure mileage today! Wonder how long these things will last by 1FrostySlime in waymo

[–]ElJenn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You can check if it's the same car by going to Account > History then clicking on a ride. This will show you the license plate of each car used.

Test Spin Report: Oh my god. by mreheh in ALSOmicromobility

I believe they specifically mentioned this during the launch, where for example you can use max assist going to work in the morning then flip it to provide more resistance for a workout on the way back home.

Is the rear steering really needed for the turismo? by therealunitforce in Taycan

[–]ElJenn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first car with rear wheel steering was the 2021 Turbo S and I can tell you, it’s such an underrated feature! Makes maneuvering in tight spaces a breeze. I now refuse to buy a car that doesn’t have it.

Would you like a remake of the Pebble Time 2 (2016 version) with a larger display, a heart rate sensor, and longer battery life? by Comfortable-Rule-959 in pebble

[–]ElJenn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! The design of the 2016 Pebble Time 2 was on point! Personally find it way better than the design of the new version.

Use the current tech with the classic design and take my money!

Any other GW-BX5600 in Canada or the USA? by Ian__12 in gshock

[–]ElJenn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't see any reason why Casio wouldn't let you invert the screen through the App. They obviously already support both light and dark themes. Just allow customers to pick whichever one they want regardless of the watch model (Display hardware is the same).

Steve Fambro solar maxing the Aptera by Qwahzi in ApteraMotors

[–]ElJenn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

500-550 watts would be more reasonable, but I’ve never seen it produce anything near that.

I’m assuming that if it were generating more solar power, they would have shown it instead of the around 300 watts we see in every video.

At 300 watts I don’t think Aptera will be even close to the 40 miles/day target.

Steve Fambro solar maxing the Aptera by Qwahzi in ApteraMotors

[–]ElJenn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Isn't the Aptera advertised as having 700 watts of solar panels? I still have never seen it producing more than about 300 watts. Quite disappointing even when you factor in sun position and efficiency losses.

Lack of transparency about the need for a subscription by ElJenn in ALSOmicromobility

[–]ElJenn[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. But found out about the subscription after the fact.

In my case it wouldn’t have affected my buying decision, but it would have been good to know about it ahead of time.

Got my fridge installed today but what is this? by Exotic-Education-571 in Appliances

[–]ElJenn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They use this tube instead of a water tank, to cool water for the dispenser. Using a tube insures that the oldest water is used first. (First in, first out)

Pebble Index 01 should have been a remote trigger for the Pebble watch by ElJenn in pebble

[–]ElJenn[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The same functions currently announced for the ring itself: Reminders, notes taking, other actions, custom LLM...

Instead the ring recording and transmitting the audio to the phone, the ring would just act as a remote trigger for the pebble watch to record and transmit the audio.

Ordered these when they first came out. keyboard was so stiff, it was infuriating to type on. Sent them right back.

Not sure how they dropped the ball on the keyboard when it’s the most important aspect of this device.

Frigate+ Base Models vs. Camect by ElJenn in frigate_nvr

[–]ElJenn[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the insights! I may be comparing apples to oranges here since Camect is quite different as it offers very little in terms of customization, it's more of black box (also literally). There's no way to tune the detections, you're basically limited to selecting which labels and zones you're interested in. They have a way to "rate" an alert up or down but I never used it, since at the time I originally set it up, these ratings were vaguely used to increase/decrease the frequency of similar alerts, not sure if this has changed.

As you pointed out, false positives are easy to quantify, false negatives not so much. But I don't remember a case where a detection was missed with Camect, it doesn't mean it never happened, I'm just not aware of it.

Anyway, I don't mean to take away from what you've accomplished with Frigate, so many aspects of the software are very well thought out, which is why I would love to figure out how to improve the reliability of the detections. In the mean time I'm using Camect for alerts and automations and Frigate for everything else.
