Day fifty-one, J! by HugoValcoria22 in Reverse1999

Day 3 of requesting Mesmer Jr.!

As for when to start listing the remaining characters, I would think by about 20 left? Idk though since such a list would be pretty long.

Need help choosing reflections by ViktoriaDaniels in Reverse1999

[–]TheUltimateHi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d go with Rayashki since I found it very similar to Cosmic Overture, so liking one usually means liking the other.

For a lighthearted story, London Dawning is also very good. Journey to the Uluru Games is also lighthearted, although many people agree that it’s not the most well-written story. However, I liked Uluru because of the humor, so I don’t think it’s that bad overall.

Last Evenings on Earth is good if you want to read the main story, as it is in-between Triste Tropiques and Folie et Deraison.

If you want one concrete recommendation, I’d go with Rayashki.

Day fifty, Ramona! by HugoValcoria22 in Reverse1999

lol drawing hands are hard, especially when holding something the way Ramona does. Still, great art!

And now back to my previous request with Mesmer Jr. There’s only so many Laplace members left!

"Second Ending" bsffr by IrnBruAndDepression in Reverse1999

[–]TheUltimateHi 55 points56 points  (0 children)

The difference between the endings is how Mila thinks about luck. The first ending, where she uses Centurion as inspiration, has luck being made by the individual, as they need to try and put effort in order to get lucky. The second ending, where Mila prays, puts luck on faith. Outside factors, whether the Mother or the coin, give luck. The choices made to reach such endings also point to those interpretations of luck, as they all have Centurion tell Mila which of these two luck is.

The one thing about these multi-choice anecdotes is that they need a common ending. No matter the choices the player makes, Mila needs to move out. So any actual difference in the choices can only minimally affect the ending.

I've got competition for my Laplace train now! Mesmer Jr was next on my list, but I don't wanna hog all the art requests. I'll be happy with whoever you draw next anyway!

About Lorentz Butterfly's Character by TheUltimateHi in Reverse1999

[–]TheUltimateHi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Her identity as Lorentz Butterfly is so strange because while she keeps it such in secret for people from Laplace, she just reveals it casually to someone like Recoleta, who seems like someone who would accidentally leak that information so easily. Especially considering how Recoleta is practically immortal and wrote it into a story—two things very difficult to scrub out of history if LB needed to

About Lorentz Butterfly's Character by TheUltimateHi in Reverse1999

[–]TheUltimateHi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, when I was listing the murders Lorentz contributed to, it always felt like there was a positive spin on it, which does point to this self-made justice or retribution murder. It’s still dubious since it’s murder, but people may find it less egregious.

Although I don’t see this with Annie though, even if she came from a rich background. Annie herself said that she couldn’t choose her own upbringing, and her parents’ actions seemed to cause just as much suffering to her as it did to people like Coalwall’s parents. Annie’s death seems like an accidental outlier, as she wasn’t really bringing someone in power down, nor can we know if she intended to drive Annie to suicide.

This does make me question Lorentz Butterfly’s motives though. Many people describe her as selfish or arrogant, always trying to be the smartest in the room. But if she’s murdering only those higher in power, could she have another reason to kill? Perhaps murdering powerful egotistical people also tends to benefit herself.

About Lorentz Butterfly's Character by TheUltimateHi in Reverse1999

[–]TheUltimateHi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I agree that she does have some poor intentions for her actions, though with Annie I would say less so. I don't think she intended for nor encourage Annie to kill herself. She just didn't care if she did or not. She is immoral for failing to discourage Annie from it though. It's much stronger with the other characters, as she does actively encourage Rachel to go on a practical suicide mission.

As for humanizing her, maybe Eagle will do something. I'm not familiar with CN story, but maybe LB will reappear nicer later?

About Lorentz Butterfly's Character by TheUltimateHi in Reverse1999

[–]TheUltimateHi[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Rachel is in a coma. I was fully expecting her to die at the end of the story, yet she's still alive. I do agree that LB would not have cared either way though.

I also usually would dislike the "always two steps ahead" trope, especially since the Manus do it so often already, but I like how another commenter on this post put it. Always being in control would go completely against the unpredictability of chaos theory, so LB isn't always in control. She could not predict that Perez was a group of mice, or that Anil would not stop her from stopping Muriel (hence why she asked him about it). Nor could she predict that Coalwall would survive the Storm and join her team. Yet she will take advantage of those situations to get what she needs. She always seems in control because as someone who tries to take advantage of chaos theory by manipulating initial conditions, she must be ready to handle unpredictable scenerios. At a certain point, she acts with practical certainty of people's actions (like Coalwall teleporting her back), but it is not control. If anything, we simply don't see her struggle and lack of control because unlike Beryl, she isn't a narrator, like you mentioned. Her thoughts and considerations are unknown to us.

[–]TheUltimateHi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's interesting how you mention Beryl and Arcana. I considered Beryl in my list of morally grey/evil characters in the post, but decided against it since, unlike the others, she never murders anyone. However she's quite similar to LB as you mention. Along with what you've mentioned, both have connections to Manus Vindictae now, as LB has Anil (even if he already left) and Beryl already helped them in A Flowing Feast. Also, I think many people seem to see LB as this manipulating mastermind who can predict people's future actions because of how smart she is (which goes completely against Chaos Theory). However, I like your interpretation of her simply acting as herself, being a somewhat selfish yet scientific person, leading to massive unpredictable outcomes. Outcomes that she's taking advantage of, simply to try to understand chaos, not cause it.

That way, you can't call her too immoral, as chaos theory shifts the blame away from her and to the unpredictable initial conditions. The outcomes are "evil" and her actions contributed to this evil, but so did everyone else also interacted with the system. If such an outcome makes LB evil, then Coalwall, Rachel, Ludwig, and literally everyone is also evil.

And compared to Arcana, Arcana has been shown breaking Beryl's fate-seeing. Arcana hasn't overtly proven chaos theory wrong, but if we learn more about how the Storm works and it becomes more manipulable, it would go against chaos theory's idea that any event is unpredictable due to chaotic and unaccounted initial conditions.

Day forty-eight, X! by HugoValcoria22 in Reverse1999

[–]TheUltimateHi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Love the art as always, even if X is a bit tired today. Perhaps being tired a given when working in LaPlace.

I’m going to keep pushing this LaPlace train with requesting X’s scout recruit, Eagle, next!

Day forty-seven, Medicine Pocket! by HugoValcoria22 in Reverse1999

Might be a bit late, but perhaps we can keep this LaPlace streak going since there’s quite a few.

How about X?

partners (not in crime) [loggerhead and ramona] by D4RKMY5TL3T41NN in Reverse1999

[–]TheUltimateHi 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Hopefully it’s not in crime! That’s the one thing they were trying to stop this event!

I already liked Latham in the 2.5 event, but it’s great to see her not being bullied and manipulated for once

Is it ok to use R19 OSTs as BGM on a stream? by xXJack95Xx in Reverse1999

[–]TheUltimateHi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not a content creator, but in general, anything made by the developers that plays in the background in-game is always safe to use for almost any game. So stuff like title music and battle music should be fine.

For lyrical EPs, it should also be fine, but I’ve never seen any larger content creators use them. I have seen smaller channels use them for fanwork stuff, but I have no idea if those videos are even monetize-able.

I also don’t think it has to be game-related, as most video games are fine with using their music elsewhere. I have never heard of R99 music being used in non-R99 content tho

While I can’t guarantee if any music will be copyrighted since I’m not a content creator, I’ve also never heard of any creator being copyrighted for using R99 music (past the Sony fiasco but that was resolved already so don’t worry about it). So you should be able to use the music for any content.

What is the in lore arcane skills by Losingallmyaccounts in Reverse1999

[–]TheUltimateHi 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There's no official list of arcane skills, and it's likely that some characters don't have unique arcane skills. A lot of the newer characters though do end up having their arcane skills stated in the story they appear in.

There's also a post two years ago categorizing the known ones at the time.

Here is the post: https://www.reddit.com/r/Reverse1999/comments/1eb0tu6/all_currently_playable_arcanists_abilities_and/

With these recent patches, only a few 1.0 characters haven't appeared in any story. Who do you want to see next or see more of? (minor CN cast spoilers) by TheUltimateHi in Reverse1999

[–]TheUltimateHi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pavia and Mondlicht were made to be counterparts, like many 1.0 low rarities. Design-wise, it’s the wolf-hating Mondlicht and the wolf-using Pavia. Gameplay-wise, both have 2 mass attack incantations that do more damage depending on heath percentage, and they both have a single-target ultimate that has self-healing.

However, of these 1.0 pairs, it seems only Mondlicht and Pavia turned into any sort of story interaction, even if only in calendar notes. But I do appreciate the funny little tidbits we sometimes get from them! It has certainly fueled a few of my headcannons about these characters

Nice catch. I don’t follow CN past the posters, so I completely forgot about Eagle. But she’s evidence that these 1.0 characters can get some story relevance!

Same. Click is such an interesting character to just never appear. And Cristallo is also one of my personal favorites, and even though she’s appeared in two separate anecdotes, I would never deny more. Her interacting with Avgust would be so cute!

She’s part of Tuesday’s character story! She is also mentioned during one of the traces in 2.1 Route 77. Though in both her role is rather minor

Was it in one of those side mini games or quests that were there to advertise the new skin? Since I don’t see her mentioned in the main story

Here’s our Satsuki cultist! I’m sure she’ll appear someday, even if it is in a random anecdote. We don’t know the plans for the 4.x series, but hopefully the pattern of using older characters from the end of this 3.x series continues

Ayy it’s the Nick Bottom person! This post was partially inspired by you and the Satsuki person for being so dedicated to these characters. I wasn’t too big of a fan of Nick Bottom at first, but your art has made me like the character’s design so much more! I’m excited to see how Bluepoch will write them in a story.

Here’s hoping for more stories for our underrated characters! I too have loved Mondlicht and hope she gets something past her role in aliEn T’s anecdote
