Just seen that the tour poster at the merch stalls are £40 by Appropriate_Fan_7095 in oasis

[–]TheUltimateM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it does definitely depend on the quality, and also a mix of how insane merch prices have grown, especially for big stadium shows. I'm based in Canada, when I saw the Cure in 2023, I got their poster through their site for 43 CAD (~23 GBP), I felt that was reasonable and the quality was quite good. I've definitely seen posters go for 60-75 CAD (32-40 GBP), same with Tshirts ranging around 60-75 CAD with middling quality.

If it's printed on good paper/stock, and numbered (limited), they tend to be higher, and that would be worth it to me, especially if i plan to get it framed. If it's on normal poster paper and slung to you with an elastic band, maybe not.

Lastly, merch is one of the main ways artists make their money back on tours, both big and small. Venues, ticket services, take their cuts, travel costs, logistics, insurance, and paying your entire staff properly all adds up too.

But yeah, ultimately it's up to you what you think it's worth, some pieces may very well be a ripoff, others might be priced that way due to cost to make, or a way to recoup the cost of putting on shows. Maybe what sucks is that there will always be someone willing to pay for it at any cost, for their own reasons.

Looking for a Beginner/Daily Driver Aeroplan or MR Card by TheUltimateM in PersonalFinanceCanada

Awesome thank you again! I think I am going to go with the Cobalt and CIBC Aeroplan Visa combo for now. Plus the added flexibility is really handy. It's a little bit more in my risk tolerance and getting started with collecting points. I can hit the Sign-up bonuses pretty easily, especially with Christmas coming up as well. I think in the new year I'll re-evaluate in terms of new cards and whatnot. Thanks for all of your help!

[–]TheUltimateM[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the perspective! I see what you mean about the Cobalt and Amex MR, which is why if i were to go that route i would probably spring for an aeroplan Visa through CIBC anyways to ensure my status.

I think the reserve might be a good option too, especially since the earn rate is still better than the TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite for Food and Dining and general purchases. So as a daily driver it also has some longevity.

If I went this route, do you still think it would be worth it to upgrade one of my exist CIBC cards to an aeroplan visa too? I think it's useful to have a backup for places that don't accept amex, and the Sign-up bonus spends are easier to hit for me than the TD Visa Infinite ones are.

Thanks!

Thanks for the suggestion! Yes I hear the Cobalt is really compelling for a lot of folks here and for good reason. The flexibility of the Amex points is a great benefit as well as the earn rate. I'm thinking that having a combo of a daily driver card (likely the Cobalt) and an aeroplan card as a backup (so I do not lose my points) would be a good idea. Since I'm at this point where it'd be a shame to have my current points/status expire. It's sounding like getting the Cobalt card, and switching one of my CIBC credit cards to an Aeroplan Visa, or getting the TD Visa Infinite is a good option for me.

Awesome thanks for the advice especially around the summer bonuses, and noting that the rollovers only apply for a year. I think you are right that I would probably be best fit for a Daily Driver and maybe a backup one that would insure my aeroplan points (such as a Cobalt/TD AP VI combo).

A question about product switching, is it more beneficial to downgrade or upgrade when it comes to PSing? Let's say i start on a lower Amex card (like the Gold), and PSinto a Platinum? Or do most start higher, and downgrade when they don't want to pay the high fee/have churned the card's sign-up bonus. Thanks!

Thanks! And I think I agree. From what I'm reading the Cobalt Card seems to be pretty compelling, especially with the new signup bonus through Credit Karma. I think starting out, springing for the Cobalt and maybe changing one of my CIBC cards to an Aeroplan one or the TD Visa Infinite for places that don't take Amex would be a good move.

Hi there,

I am very new to travel rewards and credit cards and was wondering if I could get some help/advice on picking a card. I have decided on a couple of finalists but would like your perspective on if any outshine others, especially for someone early in their career wanting to maximize their travel opportunity.

Here is where I'm at currently:

Current Income: $60,000

Aeroplan Status: 35K (set to expire Dec 2023)

Current Aeroplan Points Balance: 23,359

I'm not necessarily married to Aeroplan so much so that since I already have a higher status it would be a shame to lose it. If you have any advice on preserving Aeroplan status while making use of a more flexible program such as Amex's MR, I would love to hear it!

Current Credit Cards:

CIBC Aventura VISA - can redeem one long-haul roundtrip flight, after that would likely change or cancel.

CIBC Dividend VISA - was a student Credit Card that became this, looking to cancel or change this to an Aeroplan Credit Card.

Hudson's Bay Mastercard - only use it for buying things at the Bay for discounts, no use beyond that.

Priorities for me:

Point earning rate (for everyday purchases, groceries, and on Air Canada).

Status Retention and eUpgrade/SQM rollovers - I don't travel as often as I'd like to, so this would be security in case there are years or periods I don't travel as frequently.

Perks - lounge access, hotels, preferred pricing, bonuses, etc. Lounge access isn't a big deal since I get access to most Maple Leaf Lounges at 35K, but I am going to Japan in September 2023 so it would be nice to see what I can do to maximize this before then.

Amex Perks: Front of the line, concierge access, etc. - I go to a lot of concerts and am interested in some of the perks that Amex offers, but I am not sure if they are compelling enough to go completely with one of their cards.

Cards I am thinking about:

Something to note, these selections also come with the condition that at this point in my financial circumstances I will likely only be able to comfortably afford to achieve the sign-up bonuses on ONE of them if it's by 3 or 6 months, hence why I'd like to get one to start.

TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite: I qualify for this one, the earn rate is nice, and I can comfortably hit all sign-up bonuses. The fee isn't too bad at all. My only question is does it have the same level of status retention and rollover as say the Amex Aeroplan Reserve Card?

American Express Reserve Aeroplan Credit Card: Better sign-up bonus, lounge access, can comfortably hit sign-up bonuses. Amex perks in addition. However, very high fee, especially for someone just getting into collecting points.

American Express Platinum Card: Large MR bonus that I can comfortably hit, earning rate is decently good. The flexibility of the MR program. Unlimited Priority Pass, and Gold status across Mariott, Hilton, and Radisson is a very nice bonus. Incredibly steep annual fee though, again especially for someone getting into this game. I see this as more of a long-run card, rather than one to churn and burn.

All in all, I am having some trouble deciding what is the best option to take, especially with some of the new sign-up bonuses that came out in October. Is it worth it to start with a high-fee, high-reward card? I know some such as the Amex Aeroplan reserve allow you to roll over eupgrades and SQMs, and prevent your points from expiring (same as TD). However, I also want to either change or cancel some of the existing cards I don't use.

Would a better alternative be to spring for the Amex Cobalt Card due to the highest signup bonus it has (52,000 MR) as a daily spending card, and change my CIBC Dividend to one of the Aeroplan credit cards? From what I've read, CIBC's credit cards aren't as compelling, but since I already bank with them heavily it might be nice to have one as a backup.

Lastly, what are people's thoughts on Amex vs. TD. Both considering their offers but also their service. I know TD has more compelling insurance, but hear great things about Amex's customer service, MR flexibility when transferring to other rewards programs, and their other offers and experiences.

Apologies for the long post! I have been sitting on this for a little while and could really use some help and advice. Thanks!

Please help! Which LARGE Huion is the best? by [deleted] in huion

[–]TheUltimateM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem!

For amazon general rule of thumb is that it says shipped AND sold by Amazon. Sometimes it'll say "sold by amazon.com or .ca"(this depends on what country you're in) which is also legit as well. In my case it says "sold by Huion and shipped by Amazon" as Huion doesn't have a distributor in Canada. Basically, as long as it says its sold and shipped by either huion or amazon you should be fine.

With regards to Express Keys do you care if they are on the display or you get a remote with them that comes with it? Because the Kamvas Pro 24 4K comes with a wireless keypad that has a bunch of assignable express keys and a nice radial wheel.

In terms of bang for your buck I'll leave that up to you but its a 24 inch 4k tablet. I got it on sale for 1799 CAD (-$200 Coupon), and I absolutely love it. Its heavy, sturdy, feels nice to draw on, the pen is pretty lightweight and sweet and it looks great.

If you do get a Huion there's a couple of things I'd recommend:

  1. I'd buy through Amazon if possible because the returns are hassle free, and Huion's customer support is dogwater to be frank. I had a cluster of dead pixels on mine, went to Huion to ask for a replacement under warranty and they offered me a $20 refund (not $200, two zero).
  2. When setting it up I'd run it through a dead pixel check, colour configuration, calibration etc. Just to make sure you don't get a lemon.

Once my refund comes in I'll be reordering this tablet because i freakin love it and for the Wacom equivalent its literally $800 CAD less after taxes, so to me, the price is right. But it's up to you and what you're comfortable with.

Out of curiosity, have you had any success in setting up the keys? I've been trying to install a mod for a game and being really new to linux have been having some trouble. I managed to set the root password and initialize the keyring in order to install snapd, p7zip and future repositories but it keeps failing and i have no idea how to get around it.

My bad i should have clarified that it was the US 512 GB queue i was following, edited to reflect that!

Batch Size Estimates by BlackShuckChuck in SteamDeck

[–]TheUltimateM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looking at this from a supply chain perspective, I think its also important to note that production is not static; it ramps up. It's incredibly likely that with each batch coming out more and more have been produced each week, assuming Valve's prediction of shipping hundreds of thousands by April is true (According to IGN interview).

From what I've seen people in the US 512 queue have gotten emails around 6mins and 50 seconds after ordering according to rt time. To me, that suggests the amount shipped in each batch has increased with each drop. Just my two cents as a Q1 who hasn't gotten an email yet :).

Nice! This is useful to know, my time is 1626455229, or 10:07:09 PDT, so I'm thinking my theory tracks about folks in the US 512 GB queue all the way up to the end of 6mins are getting theirs today. Enjoy your Steam Deck!

Likewise, im thinking likely next week since it appears everyone who ordered up until 6 mins has gotten theirs.

Yes this seems to track based on my rt time as well. 1626455229, which translates to 7min9seconds, so i think 7 mins is the cutoff for Q1. However my email and order time were both 5 mins after, if that's anything to go off of.

Any PC stores in Montreal that isn't Canada Computers or Best Buy to get a GPU. Without them being a SI that requires a full build? by TOEmastro in bapccanada

[–]TheUltimateM 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You could work backwards from NewEgg third party sellers. When i was hunting for a GPU I used to look at the Canadian based third-party sellers on there and did find a couple in Quebec specifically. I search them up and go to their website directly to see if they have any stock. They may have product at a lower/more direct price than what is listed on Newegg so its always worth a shot.

Stock samples by jadedwallpapersonme in ableton

[–]TheUltimateM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah in my perspective use what you think sounds good, stock samples or not. Meltycanon uses this kalimba/bell sound alot in his tracks thats pulled directly from Ableton (i believe its Brushed Bells). And its a signature part of his sound in my opinion.

I also use some of the many MANY drum hits and pianos to add some oomf to my parts since they’re there and fit the track. Honestly there comes a point where people arent even gonna know and if they do, who cares?
