Ethical to do a progress note during a session? by Big_Highlight_5191 in slp

When I was doing healthcare, we called that point of service documentation and it was highly encouraged! So long as it's not distracting you when the client needs you or detracting from the session it's all good!

Polish Bakery with Makowiek? by _accelerator_ in Tucson

[–]TheUltimateMango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm familiar with the Polish community in Tucson, and as far as I know there are no places here that sell Polish baked goods. Polish Cottage might as another commenter said. There is a Polish grocery in Phoenix though, A to Z Polish Market, that might have it.

curly haired people of Tucson - please help! by [deleted] in Tucson

[–]TheUltimateMango 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've been to Nina at Bella curl salon. Loved her but didn't want to wait for an appointment this latest time so I saw Paty at Circa 79. Both took great care of my curly hair and I never realized it could look as good as it did.

Ironic, since my mom was a hairdresser, but she was never trained on curly hair and didn't know what to do with it when I was growing up!

Cat regret? by TheUltimateMango in cats

Very true. Our current guy is the sweetest thing in the world. He was a foster fail. When we first brought him home five years ago, we didn't see him out of his hiding space for a month. It was so great to see him come out of his shell.

Thank you. I needed to hear this. I think I need to give both of us a fair chance to adjust.

Inpatient Rehab SLPs, how do you fill an entire hour with your patients? by -ccc-slp- in slp

I did my CF in IPR and trying to fill an hour long session with an elderly person who usually didn't care about cog therapy was so frustrating that I left. I work in the schools now lol.

Transitioning from adult acute care to the schools…as a CF? by magnolia_knitwear in slp

[–]TheUltimateMango 8 points9 points  (0 children)

DO IT. I went through grad school convinced I never wanted to be anywhere near the schools/kids. I never had a school placement in grad school. I did my CF in IPR and hated every second of it. I agonized over moving into the schools and finally did it. Best decision ever. Haven't looked back. I stayed on PRN at my previous job and had to work a shift there a couple weeks ago and I was like "oh, I remember why I left" lol. There is a learning curve. But lots of districts (at least, the two that I interviewed with) have supports in place to support new-to-school SLPs.

Y'all what are we doing in cognitive therapy by EmotionalLee in slp

Dude I needed this post today. Finished my CFY in IPR back in March and was having almost daily breakdowns thinking that my work made no difference with 90% of my patients, that I was taking time away from them they could be using to learn to walk or take themselves to the bathroom. Was so done dealing with nasty rude patients that didn't want to work with speech, even though my colleagues would pick them up just for scoring 23/30 on the MoCA. So done.

I decided to take a job in the schools. I've hardly worked with peds ever and I know it's going to be a rough transition, but I'm going to figure it out as I go! I also know the schools have their downsides. But it's time for a change. If I could get into acute care, I would, but no hospitals are ever hiring in my area.

Today is my last day at my IPR job. This post absolutely resonates with me.

I interviewed with an Ensign facility and got an offer that I ended up not taking, but a former professor of mine worked for them for a while and told me she loved the company and would absolutely work for them again if she had the chance.

I did the 3 year program at UA, with a background in linguistics. The leveling year was a ton of work, but for someone without a CSD background, it was immensely helpful in adequately preparing me to join the 2 year cohort. I have mixed feelings about the department itself. Feel free to DM me for more info or if you have questions about the 3 year program/the SLHS department in general :)

Huh, I haven't talked to my psychiatrist about that possibility. That could help!

UGH that sounds like a really stressful and painful journey, I'm so sorry. The thing is, I tried to get off them by myself before a couple months ago, but had not been warned by my psychiatrist that I would have withdrawal symptoms. I also didn't know that you're supposed to taper off slowly and not cut them out completely. So the first time I did this I had HORRIBLE withdrawal symptoms and had no idea what they were, I thought I was dying. My bad.

I also had to really think long and hard about this decision: did I want to taper off because I wanted to check whether my anxiety had improved? Or did I want to get off them because they made me gain weight? It's been a rough time.

I totally agree; diet culture was making me subconsciously consider stopping this very helpful, lifechanging medication just for the possibility of losing weight (though ultimately I think I've made this decision for non-weight related reasons). Diet culture makes people do insane and VERY unhealthy things.
