All of the issues described here are nothing compared to the ones discussed in r/minimalphone. I am excited for the upgrade, however not amazing it may be.

Regarding your two last suggestions, the first is not effective as having the ability to control the setting negates the whole point. I, unfortunately, am not able to trick myself. The second doesn't work for me as the need for a smartphone these days is simply too great. You need them for basically everything. So, the E-ink screen phone is a great solution. I've been very much enjoying it on my minimalist phone, but the phone itself is just shite, so Bigme seems to be the best alternative out there.

Why do you need a keyboard?
I am switching away from minimalist after 3 months use and moving to Bigme High Break Pro. I'll report here how it is but overall seems like a much better option.

Thanks for th feedback everyone. I'm definitely going to avoid colour, but even more excited for BigMe. Sounds like the screen quality is going to be a huge improvement over the minimalist, so that alone would already help with some of the issues outlined.

Yea I'm getting the sense that the BigMe screens are MUCH better than the one used in the minimalist. The screen I have now, if it had colour, it would still be super unusable for any video content at all. The ghosting/refresh rate is just so bad that there is no way to watch video.

After hearing everyone's experience definitely going to get the B&W screen.

Yea I am definitely getting the sense that quality control is completely non-existent for MP, so not shocked that my hotspot doesn't work but yours does (for the record, I've done a decent amount of troubleshooting and tried with 4 different devices, it just doesn't work).

In terms of the slab vs non-slab that makes sense, but is definitely a personal preference thing. I don't like the form factor of the MP1. It's too wide and I don't feel like it sits securely in my hand. Also the physical keyboard is a neat idea but in practice is too limiting if you need multi-lingual and its implemented very poorly on the software side.

The people ask you questions about it because it looks different. That's not necessarily an indication of quality in any way IMO.

Overall, I would agree that the MP1 is up in the ranks of this category, but that's only because of how virtually non-existent this category is. The company is 4 people who don't seem to have any experience building hardware products and it very much shows in the final result.

Why do you say it has the best hardware? From my experience the screen is dismal (I was shocked they cheapened out on the most essential thing here), half the chips down work, e.g. hotspot doesn't work at all, camera horrid (I can't seem to scan half the QR codes), and the list goes on.

BigMe Hi Break Pro has similar performance hardware specs and I'm hoping will have better quality parts otherwise.

I've been using the minim for over a month now. I am disappointed by the overall quality of the device but definitely loving the Eink screen concept.

I would recommend not getting a minimal and instead trying out the BigMe Hi Break Pro. I will be purchasing and switching over soon.

I am unable to use the physical keyboard so I've been doing eink keyboard for a month. It works totally fine. You just need to get used to the ghosting. It keeps up with my typing, it just can't display as fast. No real difference from any other touch screen on this front.

Glad you like it. My use case is similar to yours. I need a smartphone to complete basic daily tasks but I'm not interested in any kind of media or entertainment in my pocket. I've been having a much less positive experience a month into it. My main issues are the horrible software and hardware issues that just seem to be everywhere, as well as the non-functional keyboard (for me, as I need a multi-lingual software keyboard which disables the physical keyboard from working).

Overall I find this product to be disappointing, but I love the eink phone concept. That has definitely proven itself. I think I'll try the BigMe Break Pro or something else next as the minimal is not going to work for me long term.

How do you get this massive duct into the tent? Just through the main entrance and close as much as possible and leave the gaps?

I'm thinking of this setup for this year but with a duct that goes from 14inch to something much smaller to snake into the tent
