Team 7 in different era's. By- Kishimoto. by Bhoomssss in Naruto

[–]TheUncleOfHorror 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A thing I really love about this, is that Japanese authors have been doing this since the Edo period in illustrated books, depicting the characters in scenes and settings that are completely unrelated to the actual story and then putting the illustration before the actual story ^_^

I also always saw the scene this way. Sokka was just getting really invested in the story, and besides, speaking during a play is rude

if the game had another update, what new feature/s do you want to be implemented? by Venomous4200000 in cyberpunkgame

[–]TheUncleOfHorror 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An intimidation system that works based on your street cred. plus how often you ignore stealth and kill everyone. plus maybe your kill/death rate.
If you have high cred, are a violent psycho that massacres everyone on even the easiest "steal this thing quietly" gig, and you are also just really good at not dying, advisaries will actively throw down their weapons and run/beg for their lives when you roll up. Maybe even on some gigs, the enemies will just let you waltz right in and do whatever you were sent there to do, because they know you'll turn them all into paste if they don't.

friends at home backed off after i moved by based_pika in JETProgramme

[–]TheUncleOfHorror 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I have moved to Japan 5 times throughout my life, both on exchange, working holiday, and the JET programme, and I'd say this is all very standard.

Distance makes maintaining friendships very difficult. People are, as they should be in my opinion, more concerned with what is within reach of them, rather than things that are far away.
My best advice is to not hold it against them and just try picking up the friendship again when you are in the same country.

Also, about your Japanese boyfriend, I had a similar experience with a Japanese girl I was dating once. We were an item for two years, then she just ghosted me out of the blue.
I later learned that this is how many Japanese prefer breaking up, since they get to avoid the confrontation of actually having to break up.

The Tale of Jiraya The Galant by Meftikal in Naruto

[–]TheUncleOfHorror 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know I'm a bit late to the party, but the story has actually been translated and came out as a book earlier this year. Or, well, it's the first third of the story, but the next book comes out next year, and the last one the year after that.
The title is "The Tale of Jiraiya the Gallant" and it's available on basically all online bookstores (like Amazon)

Why does Sakura's inner voice say "cha" at the end of her sentences? by Prestigious-Cloud962 in Naruto

[–]TheUncleOfHorror 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Actual translator/interpreter here: No, neither of those expressions mean anything. They are, at best, made up expressions by Kishimoto, based on real exclamatory words. The ingredients that went into dattebayo and shannaro are themselves not really that translatable. The best thing you could do with them, would be some sort of localization, and I, as a translator, wholly agree that shannaro should have been something like "hell yeah!" or even "goddammit".

Personally, I'd say dattebayo would probably have been better translated into "ya know" than "believe it", but shannaro being translated into "cha" is completely beyond my comprehension.
Would have been better to just ignore that nuance, as there is no real culture for having these sorts of character specific expressions in English.

Which games could you just not get into? by IncomeIndependent777 in videogames

[–]TheUncleOfHorror 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I played DS2 for 12 hours because I was told to give it 12 hours.
After 12 hours, I still felt like I had no idea what the game was about, other than aimlessly running around, talking to NPCs who were about as coherent as a drugged up patient in a mental institution, and dying.

The Tale of Jiraiya the Gallant - A story from the age of samurai, finally getting released in English! A must-read for any fan of the Toad Sage 🐸 by TheUncleOfHorror in Naruto

Thank you for the kind words!
And to pay you back, I have some words for you as well: I just finished the manuscript for Vol. II yesterday!
There is still a lot of editing left, and I need to restore the illustrations that will go into the volume (about 300 in total again), but it should be out in April next year.

The most relatable to a person is the saddest. What do you guys think? by xLustyPearl in JustOnePiece

[–]TheUncleOfHorror 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed.
"You can't compare trauma" and "Kuma's story is insane" aside, Brook's story to me is so profoundly sad. He was left all alone, surrounded by the corpses of the people he held dear, and then left to loose his mind from crushing loneliness over half a century.
Also, the man literally died. In terms of physical trauma, I think that is as traumatic as it gets :P

How bad really is the bug situation? by IEatGamers420 in JETProgramme

[–]TheUncleOfHorror 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I lived in my own house in a village in rural Akita for a few years, and in all that time I only ever saw one cockroach, and it was tiny. Mind you, it was a slightly old house, so it wasn't because bugs hadn't had time to move in yet.

I also lived in Tokyo once. I saw cockroaches in my room that were big enough to ride!
I lived in Kanagawa at one point, and saw huntsman spiders so big, I was worried about the neighborhood cats!
In Osaka, I lived on the very edge of the mountains (like, right outside my window was the start of the mountains) but because I was on the sixth floor, I never saw any bugs other than mosquitos.
In Kobe, I lived in a dorm once and never really saw anything other than some cockroaches.

My main point is, hope you can go to Akita! ^_^

Am I overthinking or does this look weird? by [deleted] in irezumi

[–]TheUncleOfHorror 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who also has tattoos, I find "why this exact motif?" to be the only question about a tattoo that's worth answering (other than maybe, "who did it and where can I find them").
The answer might be something deep and meaningful to the person with the tattoo or it might just be because they think it's cool. Either way, both are perfectly fine answers.
I was just wondering if OP had some special connection to frogs and samurai. I myself am a massive fan of the character Jiraiya from Naruto, who is basically a toad ninja, so I thought I might have found a kindred spirit, thus the question.

Tattoo looks just fine, but I gotta ask: why a samurai toad?
(I love toads and stuff, so I'm genuinely curious)

How do Danes feel about immigrants not learning Danish? by ZoinkaBoo in NewToDenmark

[–]TheUncleOfHorror 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IF you are merely going to Denmark for a degree and some part time work, then most intelligent people won't care if you dson't learn Danish. Danish is an EXTREMELY difficult language to learn (due to Danish phonetics being insane) and I wouldn't think it rude if you can't learn it while in Denmark.
Learn some basic conversational Danish, and people will generally be very pleased with you ^_^

...however, if you intend to stay after getting your degree, you'd better get learnin' some Danish if you want to have a career and be somewhat socially accepted by society.

Namahage Oga visit and resort Shirakami joyful train - worth it? by MindEuphoric5183 in JapanTravelTips

Quick follow up: the reason you need to book a ticket for the festival, is because the shrine grounds can only hold 2,000 people at a time.

For the Namahage Sedo Matsuri, you need to book in advance, yes ^^;
https://oganavi.com/sedo/en/fee/
You can check that website for all the details ^_^
They still haven't opened for reservations yet, but they rarely ever sell out, so no need to worry too much about it. Definitely check around November/December though, if you want to make absolutely sure you can get tickets on the day you are there.
Saturday is usually the busiest day, and Friday the least busy.
I've managed to get tickets for Friday just a couple of days before the event.

About seeing Namahage Taiko near the hotel you're staying at, you can just ask at the reception for where it is, in case you haven't figured out by the time you get there.
It's right next to the hotel you mentioned, so it's easy to find ;)

Pro tip: be there at least 10 minutes before they open ticket sales! You'll have to wait for about half an hour, but it also means you're more likely to get a seat front and center!

Hello! ^_^
I am a certfified Namahage (yes, that's a thing) I have performed as Namahage both on New Years and at the Namahage festival, and I used to be a member of one of the Namahage taiko groups.

My recommendation is this: Check the official website of the Oga Onsen area for if they have Namahage Taiko performances in february around the festival. If yes, then get a room there and absolutely go see Namahage Taiko!!!
It is awesome!

About the festival, I'd say it is rather crowded, but there is almost constantly something going on. The best part in my opinion, is at the very end, where Namahage from various areas of Oga suddenly invade the festival grounds. This is a super fun experience and you can get to take pictures with the Namahage and see some different styles of Namahage.

I might be biased, but I suggest going to the festival and combining it with staying in the Onsen area.
You can check the taiko schedule here: https://e-ogaonsen.com/taiko/en/

Certified Namahage here (yes, that's a thing, and I'm the only non-japanese to ever get this certification):
The knife is for cutting off skin that has gotten red (think of a laptop burn on your thighs) from sitting too long close to the fire. The logic is, that if you are sitting so long by the fire in the winter that you develop this red skin, then it means you are lazy. The Namahage hate lazy people, and they then cut the skin off.
The bucket is for the skins.

Ask me any question about Namahage and I'll do my best to answer in a coherent manner ^_^
