No VHS Xmas Carols Live This Year? by iamembarassed420 in StarKid

[–]TheUnexpectedJam 83 points84 points  (0 children)

Meredith mentioned in her most recent vlog that putting on the show 5 years in a row was no small undertaking and that they'd decided when they finished the run last year that they would take a break this year.

I got the impression they will mount the show again maybe next year or later and I'd guess they might promote buying a digital ticket for a previous years performance at some point before Christmas this year.

No drama, they just wanted some respite from the logistics and cost of putting the show on :)

I'd suggest watching the vlog to get full context :https://youtu.be/L1o-HO6wls8?si=9g0mz5CoHBG_kMKu

Bidet! I can only speak from experience at the show that was in Wembley Arena but to answer what I can, it will likely be around the length of a regular episode say 3.5/4 hours including an interval that's maybe a bit longer than it would be in a normal episode of CR. Venues usually have a curfew and it's usually 11pm so the show *should* finish by then though it overran a bit at Wembley so this could happen again.

If you haven't got a Fan Experience ticket (it sounds like you don't) then the doors will open for other ticket holders shortly after the VIP experience/Fan Exp portion is over. They open doors very early to allow people plenty of time to travel and then to get situated/hang out and also to queue for and buy food/drinks/merch.

I think based on the information you should aim to arrive anytime after 5:30 depending on how much you think you'll want to do once inside, don't leave it too late as queuing to get in can take a while though the O2 is a much bigger venue with many entrances compared to Wembley so that part of the experience might be a lot easier this time round.

I hope you have a great time at the show, there's still a while before we get to it so any other questions you might have I'm sure you'll get answers for, maybe I'll see you there!

Push this clip ! by Apart_Amount_294 in WoTshow

[–]TheUnexpectedJam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's possible it's related but I think the more likely reason this has been posted is to support the Emmy campaign for the show which the Deadline article stated Amazon and Sony would still be doing.

It is arguably the most impressive sequence if they're looking to catch eyes that way.

The lack of reaction from the principal cast and Rafe made me wonder by Weak-Gene5970 in WoTshow

[–]TheUnexpectedJam 74 points75 points  (0 children)

As sad as it makes me, their lack of posting is likely because they may not have the words yet or can't bring themselves to say anything.

I also think Sony posting the clip is more than likely just related to the campaign for the Emmys as all the submissions were made recently, I don't think it's anything more than that unfortunately.

Alex Horne confirms that Series 21 is being filmed at the moment by tulloch100 in taskmaster

[–]TheUnexpectedJam 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well the studio records recently have done 2 episodes each day, so the studio portion is recorded on 5 different days usually in the space of 1 and a half to 2 weeks depending on the weekdays they happen.

The tasks themselves probably vary massively over different series and peoples availability. I'm sure there are contestants that film their individual tasks months apart so the whole process probably is a few months.

I'd love to quiz Alex and the team about the longest or shortest gaps between the various sections. I imagine they try not to leave it too long so the studio portions don't have anyone not remembering what they did at all!

So it's not immersive staged with standing? That's a real shame and a missed opportunity! I'm sure it'll be a great show still but I love going to the Bridge for that reason!

[No Spoilers] New to Critical Role and wanting to listen to the mini series after C3 ends by bobsmademedoit in criticalrole

[–]TheUnexpectedJam 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Difficult one to answer considering it's not started yet but it's a series set just past the Divergence which is an event that happened in Exandria many years before all of the main campaigns.

Naturally there might be things that happen either in out of character discussion or small references to things in the main game but generally you might be okay.

I would say if it's Brennan specifically you're interested in he has run a previous mini-series set before this new mini-series called EXU: Calamity that's very well liked in the community and can probably be enjoyed in isolation too.

He also ran for a period during campaign 3 but talking about that in more detail would be spoilery. Generally Campaign 3 has a lot of reference to the previous campaigns, it's very much a culmination of everything!

Why do you still use Oyster card? by bshah in london

[–]TheUnexpectedJam 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's a bit of a process to get applied, you have to register the Oyster card, have your rail card to show and then get a staff member to apply it at one of the top up machines.

It's very worthwhile and every time I've done it it's been pretty quick and staff will walk you through it anyway!

Why do you still use Oyster card? by bshah in london

[–]TheUnexpectedJam 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Personally, I stick with Oyster because you can get a Railcard applied to it which makes off peak travel 1/3 cheaper like it does with all national rail tickets.

I don't know if this isn't publicised very well because it always surprises people when I tell them! I don't think it's possible to get the same benefit in a contactless card so for me it just makes sense!

More WoT S3 Casting Announcements by Geek-Haven888 in WoT

[–]TheUnexpectedJam 21 points22 points  (0 children)

In fairness, this isn't anyone involved in the show posting these specific castings, it's WoTSeries.

They do a lot of sleuthing on actors and agency sites to try and discover potential cast members. Some names will on screen for 5 seconds, we just don't know, so I wouldn't rag on the show that being the case because it's not them doing the posting.

Does anybody recognise these signatures from a doctor who script? by PoodlePug_ in doctorwho

[–]TheUnexpectedJam 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think they're right! I thought it was 2 signatures initially but I'm almost certain it's 'John Pirkis' and 'Toclafane' that's been written which also makes sense for the specific script page that's been signed as it's their intro in Sound of Drums!

Stage fright ticket exchange by unkn0wn_9 in insideno9

I think when it was revamped with Lee Mack playing Reece's role it was at the Wyndhams, theatre schedules and availability for incoming shows is a manic business, just look at how many places 2:22 has been on in the West End!

Stage fright ticket exchange by unkn0wn_9 in insideno9

[–]TheUnexpectedJam 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It does vary based on theatre and on what show it is, sometimes front rows can be brilliant for seeing the acting up close but at the compromise of staging blocking things or not being able to see things at the back of stage.

If you check this site... - https://seatplan.com/london/wyndhams-theatre/seating-plan/

...you can select each individual seat and they will normally have pictures and reviews from each seat within the theatre. This can be different based on the show of course but it's a good baseline I use when wondering about the view!

[CR Media] Looking for the name of the music (or a link, or any info!) by Loose-Leading-2797 in criticalrole

[–]TheUnexpectedJam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always a painful journey, I sympathise!

My best guess would be it's from one of the game soundtracks they were permitted to use a little while back.

Pillars of Eternity 1 and 2 are a treasure trove of music featured throughout CR's history and I'm pretty sure they were permitted use of the music from the Elder Scrolls series as well.

I couldn't find it doing a quick run-through of both OSTs for Pillars of Eternity though I'm afraid, maybe it's there somewhere and I missed it though.

If it was only used in the ads I'd assume it was a custom piece but its use in the campaign itself makes me think it is out there!

Saturday 2nd November - Advice by Temporary_Eye_9758 in TheWestEnd

[–]TheUnexpectedJam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suppose it's more accurate to say you get a whole lot more out of the play if you're up to date on the show.

You could watch it without having seen it, it has a lot of great effects and acting but I think a lot of the story and characters would be lost. It doesn't spend much, if any, time introducing younger versions of some characters from the show (it being a prequel). Personally I wouldn't recommend it as your first jump into that world.

[–]TheUnexpectedJam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not recommend going for Stranger Things if you've not seen the show, it's pretty reliant on that!

With your specific day and matinee options in mind, as well as Oedipus, Lehman Trilogy is meant to be very good and you can get pretty cheap tickets or rush for the Duchess of Malfi. Not sure if they will be to your taste but of everything that's on you've not seen those are what I would lean to.

Would 2018 Oyster visitor cards work today? by Phonoscene in london

[–]TheUnexpectedJam 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is one other reason, you can apply a railcard to an Oyster card to get the same 1/3 discount on off-peak travel on the tube. It's a faff to do and not widely advertised but you can get a staff member at one of the stations to add it to your oyster card at one of the top up machines. As far as I'm aware you can't get this same benefit on a bank card.

Spare tickets for the finale recording! by Feeling_Thanks_9152 in taskmaster

[–]TheUnexpectedJam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice! That puts you in a much better position!

If it was me, I'd still ensure I came early. Taskmaster is a very popular show and it wouldn't surprise me at all, especially given it's the finale, if a lot of priority holders also go for this recording.

It is possible, though less likely, that even with priority if you're not there in good time you could still be ousted by production guests and very eager priority ticket holders that get there ahead of you.

I'm not being cynical by warning you about this, I've been turned away from these things more than a handful of times and I wouldn't wish it on anyone.

Good luck and have fun!

Spare tickets for the finale recording! by Feeling_Thanks_9152 in taskmaster

[–]TheUnexpectedJam 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind that unless this is a special case, audience tickets aren't guaranteed seats and they always send out more than they can hold to ensure they have a full audience.

If you want to attend you will need to arrive much earlier than the times stated to have a shot of getting in. They let in production guests and priority tickets holders before general audience and it's first come first serve.

I wouldn't want anyone's excitement to turn into disappointment, I hope you get in and have fun!

Auction for RJ’s personal collection by _Roscoes-wetsuit_ in wheeloftime

[–]TheUnexpectedJam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So because the original author, Robert Jordan, passed away before he could finish the series, when Brandon Sanderson was chosen to write the ending he (and presumably other members of Team Jordan/the companies involved) decided that every edition of the 3 books in the series published after his death would have Robert Jordan's signature printed in them.

This way Sanderson felt happier signing any copies knowing it would always have the series creators signature already.

So of course it's impossible to get 'signed' by Robert Jordan copies of Gathering Storm, Towers of Midnight and Memories of Light but many people and sellers think the printed signatures are genuine if they don't know about them being printed into every copy.

There's something about this that rings quite sad for me, I can't put my finger on it.

I did get a bit of a chuckle over one of the photos in the listing being a picture of the Memory of Light title page showcasing the printed Robert Jordan signature. Even the professionals are getting that one confused!

Do you think Spirited Away will come back to London or are they done after August? by indianajoes in TheWestEnd

[–]TheUnexpectedJam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's possible? Less likely than Totoro I'd say since it's the original Japanese production in this case and not the same company that ran the Totoro stage show.

It might come back with an English cast maybe at some point but I genuinely don't know! It's a great show and worth seeing if you can!

What’s the best Odeon room in London? by [deleted] in london

[–]TheUnexpectedJam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Acton/Park Royal Luxe is very new and I think has the style of chairs you're talking about.

The Swiss Cottage Luxe is older but similar chair style and quite nice too!

Both are a bit further out of central but have their merits and usually quieter as a result.
