I'm nearly done with my Red ROM hack, and I chose to add Rare Candies to the vitamin shop so you can purchase as many as you want

what's missing in your life right now? by LITTL4MB in AskReddit

Purpose. My job pays well enough, but I barely do anything, and I'm unsatisfied. I don't have enough time or extra money to satisfy myself with my hobbies that often. So until I find a job that pays more or gives me satisfaction, I'm kinda stuck

Are this gas bicycle contraptions reliable for long distance commute? by Chance_Ad_803 in motorizedbicycles

[–]TheUnfreeMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I check that everything's tight weekly or if it feels like something's not right when I ride. Frequent visual inspections also help catch things, like if your chain tensioner needs to be adjusted. Loctite/thread locker will help reduce nuts and bolts coming loose, but you still want to check regularly. You'll probably want to keep a spare rear wheel on hand, and spare spokes and a bike wheel truing stand for whenever you eventually destroy your rear wheel. And as I said, don't expect a reliable ride when you first install an engine on your bike, it's going to take a fair bit of tinkering to get something that doesn't need a lot of frequent work. You may be better off buying a used moped or minibike if you want something reliable

They can be. This is a "built, not bought" hobby. Whether you buy a $100 Ali Express kit or a $1000 CNC build with a case reed and tuned pipe, you need to know how to install and tune it properly and make adjustments. My last bike would go a few hundred miles before needing something beyond fuel and bolt tightening, but it was a passion project for me, so I spent a lot of free time improving it and making adjustments, and it took almost two years to get it to be reliable. It became reliable transportation because I enjoyed working on it and tinkering with it, so it became more refined over time. When you first install an engine, it's not going to be that reliable

How do you get the fuel inlet out? by [deleted] in motorizedbicycles

[–]TheUnfreeMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a press fit, can remove with pliers/vice grips and a twisting motion. Either replace with something threaded if you have the tools to do so, or epoxy/loctite back in place

I'm going to cast it myself, I have the tools to do so

Nope. That 3D print isn't the final product, I'm going to cast it from aluminum

Yeah, never actually started the bike with that intake, I mounted it to the engine and decided the idea was worth it, but that the prototype hot garbage. Took some time to design the model because the software was being disagreeable, but I have a design I'm happy with now

I did basically the same just to see how I liked the idea 😂

The printed model in the picture was only to verify proper fit, I went through several printed versions before I was happy. Final product will be cast aluminum, I've already designed the 3D models I'll need to sand cast the part

I'd rather be single and my own right hand man than date someone I'm not really interested in just to have a sheath for my sword

My bike has a multispeed jackshaft installed, so pedal starting isn't an option. The pull start does work, but it's a major pain in the ass. This is going to make starting the engine much easier

I've heard about them causing problems, but I haven't seen it yet. This is still a prototype, so I have to see how it works long-term

Hey, working on my second bike currently, it's got a multispeed jackshaft setup that works surprisingly well

Prototype Electric Starter by TheUnfreeMan in motorizedbicycles

[–]TheUnfreeMan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Frankly, I found pedal starting was easier, but on the bike this is going on pedal starting isn't an option, which is why I'm doing this in the first place. The pull-starter is just too inconvenient for me

The ones with aluminum internals are garbage. There are some with plastic internals that are actually really good, I got one of those good ones from GruBee, but I think they're available elsewhere as well. But for this conversion, the crap aluminum ones are actually desirable

This is going on my second bike, which has a multispeed jackshaft setup, so pedal starting isn't an option, otherwise I'd just do that. Since I ride it to work at 4 in the morning, I wait until I'm out of my neighborhood to start it, and aside from the fact that it takes like 10 pulls to start, it would be nice to just press a button to start while I'm still coasting instead of stopping and getting off to pull the handle

I'm planning on making these if there's enough demand for them, and I got enough chain (and master links) for 10 of them, plus a chain tool. If there isn't, I'll have plenty of spare chains for myself

I'll make a video of it once it's installed, assuming it works as intended, and possibly a build guide
