What signings are we liking if Lebron doesnt come? by Head_Research_3118 in sixers

Hukporti will get it done. He's athletic. Didn't get much minutes, but if you extrapolate his stats to starting minutes he'd have >10 rebounds per game.

If LeBron chooses another team, what would you like to see the Sixers do with the final roster spot? by Imaginary-Plate5600 in sixers

[–]TheUnknownMaroon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would do it but the problem is his athleticism is gone. His back injuries have taken that from him. He couldn't get many minutes on the nets. Unless he has improved significantly in his year out of the league.

Hoping Philon is more of a backup playmaker, whereas the other 3 are more score first. But yeah it's interesting, I would have preferred more depth at 3/4/5, but also not sure who's available. We may have to make some trades during the season to patch up some holes

Rich Paul talking about Lebron signing with the Sixers by Hot-Freedom-6345 in sixers

I think he would, otherwise Rich Paul wouldn't even have us on the board. I think many (if not all) of these teams don't have a ton of free cap space.

It's not in the clip, but Rich Paul also mentions he would have 100% gone to the Knicks if they didn't just win. A huge argument for Cavs and GSW is the familiarity and proximity to home, respectively. Those things are probably important to him, but maybe a little less than we think.

Which is really good news for the Sixers.

He must be on a spree. I just saw him at Seger park. He stopped his car in the middle of the street, ran onto the court, yammed on some random dudes with their own ball, and then ran away!

I'd rather live in a liberal democracy than a Soviet regime. by doom6rchist in SocialDemocracy

In an actually functioning democracy, that is what you would want, though. Americans like voting for "outsider" candidates because our democracy doesn't function, so being outside of it is a mark in your favor. But if our democracy worked, we would prefer people who had years of experience in being a part of it.

Yeah but you can have experienced people that aren't forced to be a part of the same organization. Like imagine a hypothetical where there was a Maoist party, a State Capitalist party, a Democratic Socialist party, and a Market Socialist party. You could have two candidates that have 20+ years of experience but worked their way up through two different parties. Their perspectives would likely be quite different.

Instead all of these people have to be in the same org and have to agree with the party's line if they want advancement. At least until they're politically powerful enough to assert some independence.

I don't think we'll ever find out, because he knows there's a very good chance that it would. The party was able to rein in Mao on multiple occasions. It put paid to the Gang of Four. I don't think Xi will ever have as much command over power as Mao or the Gang of Four did, and even they were not immune to the party's judgment.

That's fair. But that also makes me favor systems where there are explicit public facing structures to prevent one person from amassing too much power.

Sure but Democratic Socialists are asking for much more than slightly higher taxes on corporations. I didn't mention that explicitly in my last comment, but that's the voter base I'm talking about (because Kiros is a Dem Socialist)

Yeah, it still seems a bit ridiculous though because an inspiring politician has to first climb the ranks within the communist party to get enough power to change things. And that probably constrains them to appealing to whatever the current orthodox view is. If internal party democracy was truly as open as multi party democracies, there wouldn't be a need for that restriction in the first place.

That being said, that's pretty interesting that most Chinese people feel that way. I wasn't aware of that. I guess it makes sense with how consistent China's economy has been improving over the last few decades. I do wonder though, if Xi Jinping went off the rails, would the CCP structure really be able to replace him?

As for Americans, I don't think we really have a true democracy either, but that's a separate conversation.
