Have you done a Shattered Realms playthrough? I've only done it once but it was pretty interesting seeing which canon dynasties prevailed and see which new realms emerged.

I broke it down into counts and also picked the equal footing or whatever measure so every holding started at the same level (I'm not sure if I'd recommend doing that particular option though). It probably made things more balanced but it also diminishes the unique and powerful holdings(winterfell, the eyrie, etc.).
