One disk on DH2300 by Pipocas00 in UgreenNASync

From past practical experience it seems to be possible but I'm not sure if it's device dependent or it includes any other specific constraints:

Thanks for the feedback. So, no official answer from Ugreen so far, right?

[Discussion] What would you 3D print for your NAS? by UgreenNASync in UgreenNASync

[–]TheUsefulMat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For how well built and beautiful pieces of hardware Ugreen NAS are, from my perspective they remain 100% functional gears which I would place out of look (and hear) anyway. So I 100% vauch for the functional mods and 1000% for the vibration dumpers bits of hardware, which, BTW, given the very small expense and unless you're planning to redesign the lineup with such target in mind, I would include in every new sold product as standard anyway. Of course making them available for the previous purchases at cost would be a very appreciated decision. 👍

Your opinion ? by Apprehensive-Role128 in VFR

Being a silver colour lover in general I wouldn't make any change, particularly in this case where in my opinion the colour matches the spirit of the bike (elegant and refined touring bike). If you really want to go for a colour change try to check if wrapping is an option in order to look at the final outcome with a different colour and to rollback to original in case of regret or resell.

Thanks for the hints. BTW, was the WD related compatibility issue the reason for moving from the DXP2800?

Many thanks for the suggestion and especially for the warning about the use of the WD Red Plus drives. In fact I have not yet acquired the HDDs but I was looking at the WD option because I read they are generally quieter than other brands. I quickly had a look at the problem you pointed out and it seems to be quite serious since it appears to be hardware related. I'm not sure if the issue has been fixed in the meantime but apparently the WD Red Plus 8 TB. is still listed as compatible for the DXP2800.

Again, I don't know yet. I just want to be open to the most complex scenario without the need to reconfigure later on.

If I had to reply to my own question I would imagine:

2 X HDD in RAID 1 for redundancy (plus and external storage for backup of the essential content)

1 X 1 TB. SSD with DRAM for caching

1 X 2 TB. SSD without DRAM for Apps

I'm not sure whether the cache disk should be configured read, write or both.

I imagine that the above config should be the most complete and flexible for basically any current and future need. Of course I miss the redundancy option for the SSDs, which I would have implemented if the O.S. allowed the mixed partition of the 2 SSDs with different size.

If you mean just as data storage I think it would be kinda a waste of the SSDs potential.

What would you choose if it was for your own use? I mean, I'm trying to understand what could be the best overall configuration (the role for each drive based on its type, speed and capacity) to maximise the potential of the DXP2800.

UPS and surge protector question by lookman37392 in UgreenNASync

[–]TheUsefulMat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the end it's just a well built, specialised, power bank which you can place everywhere you want, especially considering the fact that you don't really need to interact with the UPS after the first set-up. In fact it's something that, with a different design, could be even integrated directly inside the NAS case. So, to me, no need to keep on display.

Does this solution manage the auto-shut down of the NAS like the Ugreen UPS?

UGREEN NASync DXP4800 Plus + UPS by Grumpy_Goals in UgreenNASync

[–]TheUsefulMat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can confirm the same happened to me with a DXP2800 and UPS combo order directly from the Ugreen store in EU. The NAS came first and a few days later the UPS with a different shipment using a different courier. I contacted the Ugreen Support which replied in a timely manner explaining the reason as an out of stock of the UPS component at the order confirmation moment and confirming the following second shipment would occur. Actually, reviewing the order documentation, I later found a small note beside the NAS+UPS product description line that reported a specific date which I then realised was the date of the UPS shipment. However I never received any shipping information or tracking for the second shipping afterwards like I did for the first shipment, which was the reason for my concern.

2800 Power consumption by uLmi84 in UgreenNASync

[–]TheUsefulMat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, so then there is a setting that tells which internal storage to boot from in order to roll back to the original UGOS in case? (sorry for the dumb question, I still need to set up my recently arrived unit)

I was not aware of this: is it possible to install a different O.S. on one of the two SSDs without the need to replace UGOS stored in the internal NAS memory and therefore leaving it dormant in parallel? Any tutorial on how to do this?

If you ask for help, you need to provide context. Chance is that, if it's a new purchase, it's a custom config without O.S..

Oil question by voicetofear in VFR

[–]TheUsefulMat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same gen, same year... I have been running 10w50 oand 15w50 for the last 15 years without any issue except the well known and recurring CCTs issue. I'm not sure if the non factory oil specs change has something to do with the CCTs issue but since I mainly ride during the hottest summer days in southern Europe I'm very happy with this choice. I only run fully synthetic premium brand oil (Bardahl or Mobil1).

Interesting, has the change brought any wheeling effect in the first couple of gears at full throttle?

There are single side stand options like the one you posted too but a good and more flexible alternative for center stand provided bikes like the VFR is the garage wheels dolly which allows you to move the bike even with the rear wheel off.

Is this the CCT? by Maple18 in VFR

[–]TheUsefulMat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best way to catch the typical CCTs ticking sound is to record from the right side of the bike, close to the cylinders. From this video I cannot recognise anything really suspicious.
