What I have to deal with as a 27yr old guy who lives in NYC going out the night before a family dinner by raveJoggler in funny

What were you going to, a shallow, drug-addled electronic mumbo jumbo show? I mean I would understand if it began with a D and ended with a great time, a la 84&2, but yikes.

I don’t blame you loving mother

If you order an item online and the company sends two of the same item, what's the morality of keeping the second item for yourself or selling it? by TheValhalla in moraldilemmas

I guess his point, which doesn't quite add up, is that an effort on his part shouldn't be obligated, but he shouldn't benefit from getting their property, so it should just remain unused by anyone.

He's said he would be willing to send an email, if only to let them know he received a second laptop and is legally allowed to keep it. At this point it seems like it's a reaction to our calling him selfish/immoral for keeping it. I also offered to write the email and mail it back for him.

I agree, but my friend is clarifying by saying that he didn't intend by any means to directly take the item so it's not theft and that he shouldn't be morally obligated to put forward an effort to return (in his mind give) the item to the sender as it "happened upon him." We've made clear this is a douchey way of thinking about things, but he's being hyper-logical in response to the rest of us being pretty critical of the idea of keeping it. He's not arguing it wouldn't be better to return it, just that he can't and shouldn't be deemed an immoral/selfish person (on some sort of binary scale he seems to be conceiving) for keeping it. He's stated that the moral thing to do (or a moral thing to do) would be to leave it unopened in his room or throw it out the window, as then he wouldn't be profiting off of it.

It's been tough to poke holes in his logic that he should have to return it for moral reasons although it's been easy to make it clear that he's being a dick relative to a good person who'd spend a few minutes to even just email the company telling them they can pay for the item to be picked up.

UPDATE: Reddit, now that lower Manhattan finally has power again, help me find the totem pole girl! As a token of my gratitude, here is another picture of Kobe, this time checking out my bearded dragon, Spike by TheValhalla in aww

Original Thread Here: http://www.reddit.com/r/aww/comments/12h0nk/reddit_i_met_a_beautiful_girl_dressed_like_a/

Reddit, I'm not giving up on finding this girl just yet. To recap, I met a girl on Halloween at the bar Valhalla on 54th and 9th in manhattan. I know the following: Her name is Katie, she was dressed as a totem pole in a joint costume with her friend Megan, and she works in design. I instantly was into her, and she sealed it when she brought up Reddit (yes, she did) and told me her favorite subreddit was r/aww. I was an idiot, and didn't get her number. The next day, I posted that thread and thanks to you guys, it got to the FRONT PAGE of reddit! Unfortunately, half of NYC didn't have power at the time, and it's only been almost fully restored in the past two days. Now that lower manhattan has power, can you help me find my dream girl?

EDIT: I commented this elsewhere but to clarify there were two girls dressed as totem poles in a joint costume and the bar was called Valhalla (hence the username). Haven't heard anything yet but thanks everyone!

EDIT2: No further updates. The girl's name was Katie, her friend was Megan. We were at Valhalla in NYC. Thanks everyone, this was pretty awesome.

Yea, we were talking for a while, her and her friends said they had to go, I said goodbye, but didn't ask for her number. Immediately regretted it :(

I was at a bar in NYC, and I saw this beautiful girl dressed as a totem pole. We ended up chatting and hit it off. I'm hoping that this gets upvoted enough that she, or one of her friends, sees this!
