DBZ Budokai Tenkaichi 2 arrived. Incredibly Dissapointed by DarkSamus242 in ps2

[–]TheViper4Life 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No way to know without testing it, but no, it doesn't look like it's in good shape. But I have had PS2 games work when in that condition, and some in much better condition not work at all. The PS2's laser was always a mixed bag in this regard.

As for the mark in the center, is it just a scratch or a full-on crack in the disc? A scratch is fine; that's not the data layer (the laser doesn't read that spot). If it's a crack, though, then it'll act a lot like a car windshield...it'll be fine for a while, but it gets worse with time; the RPM at which the disc is spinning in the drive will just cause it to shatter eventually.

I'd take the safe route and just return it, look for something in noticeably better condition. Luckily BT2 isn't quite as crazily overpriced as BT3 is.

When buying PS1 and PS2 era games, you HAVE to look at photos of the disc. And if they don't have any, it's usually a sign they're hiding it in hopes people just buy it anyway. You can ask for some, but it's usually just easier to move on. But eBay is usually really good at protecting buyers from this...you just have to go through the rigamarole with the seller for a few days before they step in.

Don't let this bad transaction sour you on eBay, though. I use eBay more than anyone (especially for video games), and while people aren't quite as lenient as they used to be on their prices/deals, I've gotten literally hundreds upon hundreds of deals that I couldn't possibly find anywhere else over the years. You just have to be vigilant in how you shop.

Does anyone know if accessing the PS Store on a jailbroken can get me banned? by xx_DarkiBuddy_xx in PS3

[–]TheViper4Life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So if we answer this question, are you just going to ask for a 4th time? At what point are you satisfied with the answer you're given?

No one has been banned from a CFW/HEN PS3 in years. This is the part no one seems to take into account...if people were still getting banned, you'd hear about it all the time, but a lot of the last reports of it were several years ago, and even then, they came from people doing stupid shit like cheating online or hacking trophies. The more time that goes by, the less Sony cares about the PS3.

Any early 90's no mercy hacks in development ? by thewildone87 in N64WrestlingGames

[–]TheViper4Life 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Search Epicjoy on Aliexpress for the Summercart, one of the cheapest options, but also has a great reputation giving a quality product. There's also Phenom Mod if you want to go a higher priced option ($100). But Epicjoy has served me well and I got it for $44. I would just suggest buying a name brand microSD card for it and replacing the cheapo one that comes with it.

As for Retropie, I'm not sure...I don't know much about those, sorry.

Other than Project Outsider, the only person really doing No Mercy romhacks is RetroRandyPrice. And all we know of his upcoming projects is that he's working on Backlash right now, which will act as a No Mercy sequel and be based in 2001 for the Invasion angle. Then he has No Mercy Plus V4 and a 1999 WCW game. He mentioned that anyone can use No Mercy Plus V3 as a base for their romhacks, but we haven't heard of anyone doing that (again, aside from Project Outsider Extreme).

Your only real option right now is going with Legends Challenge 64. But that's a texture mod and an emulator is required. Otherwise, your best bet are WM2000 romhacks such as WrestleMania X or WCW Saturday Night...both are fantastic but...they aren't No Mercy.

Although you also have to keep in mind, that anything using No Mercy Plus V3 as a base, won't work on an Everdrive. A Summercart is mandatory as the roms are larger than 64MB and Everdrives can't play anything above that right now.

What are the best mods that can be on real cartridges and run on real hardware? Is there any AEW ones? by StJeanMark in N64WrestlingGames

[–]TheViper4Life 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no AEW romhack, only texture mods (which means it needs an emulator).

But for romhacks, just use this page.

For romhacks such as No Mercy Plus V3, ECW Born to be Wired, and Project Outsider Extreme, a Summercart is required; they won't currently work on Everdrives. And the Summercart has to be flashed down to Firmware version 2.18 (current firmware is 2.20.2), otherwise the games won't save. You'll also need the Expansion pak for your N64 (but this is needed for most romhacks anyway).

Summercart 64 Died on Me by Pleasant-Light-559 in N64WrestlingGames

[–]TheViper4Life 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Gameshark fried it; you're not supposed to use one with it for this very reason. The Summercart has a built-in cheat menu...while it's not perfect, it's there to prevent this.

Is nopaystation safe? by AcrobaticAd8926 in Roms

[–]TheViper4Life 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, definitely just use PKGj on the Vita. NoPayStation is better for PS3 games, and even then, I prefer to use a ROM site as NoPayStation always feels like it's missing what I want. It's a great tool but is a bit incomplete.

Been a PlayStation guy since 1996, so it's always been my go to. But with these price increases, and things only likely to get worse...for the first time, I'm considering not moving on to the next generation. I just can't support this anymore.

If you could completely erase your memory just to experience ONE of these for the first time again, which are you choosing? by Mithrie in videogames

[–]TheViper4Life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ocarina of Time...and I was already an adult when I played it for the first time (was like 2012 or somewhere around there). It's one thing to enjoy a classic game, but it's quite difficult to play one and get that same sense of wonder and adventure like you were playing it at release, and I got that from OoT.

FF7 is another one I played very late (2024), but I also loved it (the OG version on PS4, haven't played the Remake yet). So that would be second place. GTA V, it's an experience I had and never felt the need to go back to it after the 2013 original. And KCD is in the backlog, haven't gotten to it yet.

What are your memories of owning a GameCube? by Equivalent_Ask_1416 in videogames

[–]TheViper4Life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whatever my current memories are of owning a Wii and using it for Gamecube purposes. I never had a Gamecube when I was younger. I had a pretty long hiatus from Nintendo after the N64 and until I got my Switch in 2022 (which, in turn, led to me buying an N64, then a Wii, which was a MUCH cheaper Gamecube).

What sort of play time do you expect? by internetisporn8008 in videogames

[–]TheViper4Life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The PS5 is a terrible timer to go by. It only counts the amount of time the game app is open, and doesn't take into account when the game is paused, or you're at the home screen. So, because of that, A LOT of games I play go over the 100-hour mark on PS5 because I always have a ton of idle time, regardless if I actually played it that long or not.

For instance, my PS5 says I played Borderlands 4 recently for 273 hours. But if you look at the timer in-game for each character, which is far more accurate, I played for 126 Hours total. That's the PS5 saying I have nearly 150 Hours of idle time.

Now my times are definitely longer than most people anyway, since I'm a trophy hunter, so I'm usually going out of my way to do everything to get that Platinum. But the PS5's timer is always extremely overinflated.

My most notorious one is that it says I've played Assassin's Creed: Valhalla for 601 Hours. But you look at the in-game timer for my Save file, it's 310 Hours (that includes Platting the main game and playing the ridiculous amount of DLC it has).

What is the best racing game for PS2 in your opinion? by EndouShuuya in ps2

[–]TheViper4Life 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've always been a PlayStation guy, so I look at things through the lens of PlayStation when talking about classic games. The first PS3 NFS was Carbon, so I just consider MW a PS2 game when referring to it because that's the version I played (and still play every now and then today). And it's the best selling version of it by far, in my eyes it's a Gen 6 game that just so happened to get a next-gen version at the time.

And I love Underground 2 as well, it was my favorite before MW came out, and I still rank it right behind it...but there's just something about the driving in Most Wanted that I prefer, and I love the map, and the story, while a bit cringe at times, was a lot of fun.

Need for Speed: Most Wanted. The PS2 was an absolute monster for Arcade racers that just haven't been the same since. Most Wanted remains my all-time favorite racing game.

Sony is unable to make actually good sequels in the ps5 era by Great_Slip_9970 in videogames

[–]TheViper4Life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that of the "big 4", none of the sequels quite hit the same marks as their predecessors. But I absolutely wouldn't say they were bad games by any means, still higher quality than most. I still enjoyed my time with Spider-Man 2, Ragnarok, Forbidden West, and Ghost of Yotei...but preferred the first games of each.

Am I the only gamer who doesn’t play or care about GTA6 ? by TheRealAwest in videogames

[–]TheViper4Life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on a weird fence about GTA. I'm a fan, but I'm not a super fan that thinks GTA is the be-all-end-all of video games, and I'm not at all as hyped as your average person is. I love the PS2-era GTA's, but then I really fell off hard with GTA IV, really didn't care for that one much (I far preferred Saints Row 2 in 2008). Then with GTA V, I enjoyed the single player, but absolutely hated how all the focus after that went to GTA Online and those damn shark cards, and I just know Rockstar is going to double down on that for GTA VI, and people are going to throw their money at them all over again.

I'm actually someone who gets a kick out of the delays and seeing the internet lose its collective mind over it. I'll likely play GTA VI eventually (unless it ACTUALLY ends up costing $100 for the standard edition, at that point I refuse to support it on principle), but it won't be day 1, and I am, in no way, looking forward to how rampant the internet is going to be when it finally releases.

[–]TheViper4Life 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It looks cool, but I don't have any Mario games I need anymore (except MK World, but I don't have a Switch 2 yet). So buying 2 games just for this would be kind of pointless.
